Amazon.com Product Description

Turn your gym into a cardio cross-training zone by adding a Star Trac 4730 recumbent exercise bike. The Star Trac 4730 is equipped with a 7-inch, multicolor LCD display that's compatible with most DVD players, VCRs, gaming consoles, and other entertainments products. As a result, you can watch movies, play games, or follow DVD workout routines while you exercise--a great way to keep yourself motivated. More significantly, the recumbent bike keeps your body in optimal form, helping condition your heart and lungs, raise your metabolism, and burn calories and fat. The bike offers 12 preset program profiles to keep you fit, plus four heart rate programs, four custom profiles, and a constant watt program. Should you prefer to work out at your own pace, the Star Trac 4730 handles that, too, with 16 selectable intensity levels and readouts for speed, RPM, time elapsed, calories, distance, heart rate, and watts.

The Star Trac 4730 is also extremely comfortable compared to most exercise bikes, with a walk-through recumbent design for easy entry and exit, along with a mesh seatback. Other features include fore and aft seat adjustment, an aluminum extruded seat rail, front transportation wheels, comfort-adjust pedal straps, and a 300-pound capacity. The Star Trac 4730 measures 25 by 48 by 66 inches (W x H x D), weighs 108 pounds, and carries the following warranties: 50 years on the frame, five years on parts, and one year on labor.

Product Description

1.0 out of 5 stars The Bike from the Nether Regions (not the Netherlands), January 9, 2011
By
Oscar Jaeger (Brooklyn, N.Y. U.S.A.) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Star Trac ST Fitness 4730 Recumbent Exercise Bike (Sports)
The Star Trac 4730 is, in four ways that beautifully complement each other, "the Bike from the Nether Regions." First, the parts were manufactured in China, and this means bolts and screws that are stripped or strip easily. The defective quality of these parts compounds the difficulty of assembling the bike. Second, as you assemble the bike you realize that the manuals which are supposed to guide you were written and illustrated by someone who never tested their instructions to see if they work. As a result, the manuals contain profound errors in the sequencing of steps needed to complete the assembly. If your idea of a good time is following instructions, then repeatedly having to undo and redo your work as you realize what the proper sequence of steps has to be - not to mention that you will have to obtain replacements from Star Trac for the parts that got stripped during the assembly process - you will love this bike. Third, even if you work as carefully as I did to connect the cables (wires) that feed the LCD display, you may find, as I did, that you get an error message when you try to program the bike for your specific workout regimen and that your attempts at programming have the unintended consequence of rendering your bike unusable because the resistance level becomes unalterably fixed at a level higher than one you find comfortable. Fourth, if you think your warranty is going to rescue you, think again: it may, but not easily. The 4730 is considered by Star Trac to be a consumer division rather than a commercial division product. What this means to you is that your only practical recourse, in the event your bike turns out to be defective, is to find a local Star Trac authorized service provider willing to come to your home to fix your bike. Star Trac will not help you with that process; they insist that you work with your reseller if you require assistance. In my own case, I was lucky, because I managed to find such a provider on my own, and I am coordinating with Allen at Alive Outside, the excellent company from which I purchased my bike, to arrange for Alive Outside to pay that service provider (Allen will then hopefully obtain at least a partial reimbursement from Star Trac). Allen arranged for Star Trac to ship certain currently available replacement parts to me (a servo motor and wiring harness) before the service provider comes to my home, but these parts may not be the cause of the problem; instead, the cause could turn out to be the LCD display itself, which is on backorder. This convoluted warranty process is Excellent Reason #4 for you to avoid the mistake that I made, which was to buy this "Bike from the Nether Regions."
