As a general rule, I love Star Trek calendars. And of all things Trek, I love DS9 the most. But I honestly hate this calendar. I can't even say whether or not I will put it up. I want my money back.

To be fair, the photography is nice and professionally done. This is Paramount, after all. But the photos are smaller than I expected. Why not blow them up a little more? It would be an improvement. I feel like putting the calendar on a firing range and blowing it up in real life too. I would be an improvement.

I have always seen Deep Space Nine as the most serious series of the Trek world. It is a fairly somber, almost dark series, or at least when compared with the saccharin sweet Federation goodness and wholesomeness of The Next Generation. (This calendar ranks up there with the annnoying Vik "Feel so good about yourself" Fontaine episodes of the last season which made my skin crawl!) So, what I think bothers me most about this hideous creation is the graphic design and color scheme. But, it's a calendar, after all... so what else does one rate it on?

The colors in this calendar, and the graphic design, are bright and cheery, for goodness sake! I cannot imagine what kind of drugs the artists were on when they decided to put Damar and Kira -- in a potentially tense moment -- against a sea-foam colored background! And Worf looks equally silly against his teal blue background. Tell me, who uses thick orange, fushia, yellow, and lime green borders for a Star Trek calendar? Why is Garak a happy boy, smiling gleefully, hands clapping, like an idiot? Tain would be mortified... At least the Klingons are set against blood red, and Odo's shot is nicely set against a stunning comm panel. But overall, it looks like a 5th grader put the thing together... or that it was designed for a 5th grader's bedroom.

Whatever drug that was, oh ever-confused and befuddled graphic production staff, I would like to try some myself!

I bought the 2001 calendar sight unseen because I liked the 2000 Deep Space Nine calendar. I wish I had taken a look at it in a bookstore first!

On the plus side, the blocks for the individual days are larger and thus it will be easier to write notes in them.

Unfortunately, any pluses are greatly outweighed by one major negative: the obtrusive backgrounds. The muted gray-blue-black background theme of 2000 is replaced with garish colors which vary from page to page and which frequently clash with the colors in the photos. Additionally, the photo size was diminished this year, which renders the background even more annoying. There are some nice shots, but background colors and diminished size detract severely from all of them.

All in all, I recommend you preview before you purchase. It's a serviceable calendar, but not as pleasing to look at as last year's was.

This is a Cool Calender that is Dedicated to the Tv Show, Star Trek Deep Space Nine. Star Trek Deep Space Nine Ended in 1999, but this Calender Brings back all the memories of the show. It has some amazing Pictures, and it's a valuable asset to have on your wall. Besides, I'm sure there's a Ferengi Rule of Aquisition that has to do with Calenders and Knowing what day it is!

This is a Calender, not a book. But the pictures in the calender are very beautiful. This Calender is from the Tv Show: Star Trek Deep Space Nine, which ended in 1999. However, the show still lives on through memories, and through this calender. The dates are setup easily, and it's not hard to navigate. I'd reccomend it for any Star Trek DS9 fan, or anyone who wants to buy it for one!
