Dominion is taking back Deep Space Nine., July 13, 2003

"Call to Arms" starts a seven-part episode, which I call "The Dominion War." Synopsis: As another convoy of Jem'Hadar ships emerges from the wormhole toward Cardassia, Sisko and his officers face the grim realization that the Dominion is taking over the Alpha Quadrant. When Starfleet Command notifies Sisko that he must stop further Dominion reinforcements from reaching Cardassia, he decides to mine the entrance to the wormhole â€" a move that will likely lead to war. Dax, Rom, and O'Brien hatch a plan to fill the wormhole entrance with self-replicating mines, but the entire minefield must be in place before it can be activated. This means the plan is likely to be detected, and the U.S.S. Defiant attacked, before the minefield is ready. When Sisko reveals that Starfleet cannot send reinforcements, the crew realizes the station may be lost. Shortly after Dax and O'Brien set off to deploy the minefield, Weyoun, the Dominion representative, arrives with a warning that they will take over the station unless Sisko removes the mines. Refusing to back down, Sisko alerts the crew to the Dominion's impending attack. He asks General Martok to patrol the border and informs Kira he will endorse the non-aggression pact the Dominion proposed to Bajor, hopefully ensuring the planet's survival. After hurriedly marrying Rom and Leeta, Sisko is notified by Martok that the Dominion force should arrive within the hour. The station is evacuated while Sisko, his officers, and a few others remain behind. As the battle begins, they fight the Jem'Hadar from the station while Martok and his troops protect the U.S.S. Defiant, allowing Dax and O'Brien time to finish the minefield. With the Dominion continuing to bear down, Sisko orders all remaining Starfleet personnel to evacuate. Sisko addresses Kira, Odo, Quark, Rom, Morn, and the few others who will remain behind, promising to fight until he can return to the station. He also reveals that while they were keeping the Dominion occupied, the rest of the Federation fleet was destroying Dominion shipyards in Cardassian space. Preparing for a rendezvous with a Federation task force and a final battle with the Dominion, Sisko joins his crew and departs in the U.S.S. Defiant. Unfortunately, he must leave without Jake, who secretly arranged to remain behind and report on the imminent events. Back on Deep Space Nine, Kira, Odo, and their remaining comrades disable the station before surrendering their home for the past five years, to Gul Dukat and Weyoun.

Sisko as General MacArthur, August 20, 2004

Deep Space Nine is a somber place as the crew and residents of the space station brace themselves for an invasion by the dreaded Dominion. They see dozens of Dominion ships coming through the wormhole daily, bringing reinforcements to Cardassia, now that Cardassia has aligned themselves with the Dominion. Quark's brother Rom prepares to marry his Bajoran girlfriend, Jake Sisko is trying to get a scoop as his new vocation as journalist for the Starfleet News Service and Odo & Kira are avoiding each other after the revelation of Odo's feelings for her became evident weeks earlier.
Starfleet is so engaged in other matters, they can't send reinforcements to DS9 and Sisko decides to mine the entrance of the wormhole to prevent more Dominion reinforcements from coming to Cardassia. As Rom panics about his upcoming wedding, his mechanical genius comes to the surface as he spits out an incredible plan to make the mines Dominion-proof in-between his panicked utterances about his upcoming nuptials. Dax & O'Brien implement Rom's plan and they rely heavily on General Martok and his band of Klingon warships for protection as they lay the cloaked mines.
The showdown begins before all the mines are laid - as the Jem'Haddar, Vorta & Cardassians begin their attack on DS9. What will happen to the Starfleet crew? What will happen to the Bajorans, who are still rebuilding their lives after years of Cardassian occupation? What will become of Quark, Rom, Kira & Odo?
There are always sub-plots spinning away in every Star Trek episode, but this one has more than most. So much happens in this episode, you can barely keep up. While Quark is disgusted over his brother's non-Ferengi wedding, his true feelings of affection for Rom become evident as it's obvious he respects his younger sibling.
The Romulans have signed a non-aggression pact with the Dominion, which adds them to a list of alien species that have had a "cold war" peace with the Federation, but now have aligned themselves with their most dreaded foes.
Odo is still chief of security and Sisko is still Emissary to the Prophets.
As Sisko disembarks to the Defiant, he gives his "I Shall Return" speech to those remaining on DS9. He doesn't puff on his corncob pipe, but he does leave his baseball in his office as tongue-n-cheek jibe at Gul Dukat. An interesting web of plots, and this is a 2-parter, so your questions are not answered until the end of the 2nd episode. This one is a nail biter.
