Having just rescued my own copy of this toy from storage for display, I am reminded of how incredibly accurate and detailed this replica is. The attention and care given the sculpt of the model is simply remarkable, when one considers that this was marketed as a toy for kids. In truth, the manufacturers of this replica had to know that more adults than children would be interested in this as a display piece, since - as toys go - there is very little 'play value' to be had. Sure, you can dock the miniature U.S.S. Enterprise to one of the pylons, and there are a few LEDS and sound effects to be activated, but after a kid has done those things a few dozen times, they are pretty much going to be done with it. No, this piece is definitely for the adult collector. After the easy assembly of about 8 snap-on pieces, Space Station Deep Space Nine is ready for display - no glue, paint or decalling required. It looks especially nice hung from the ceiling. Too bad that a toy that originally sold for around $30.00 is now being priced way out of the range of a lot of fans that missed it the first time around. Although Playmates was often hit and miss with the quality of their "Star Trek" toy line, this was one of their finest pieces of work.

This model of Deep Space 9 was an excellent reproduction of the space station of the series; it was so popular, you can see it adorning the offices of the DS9 writers in the special features on the DVDs. It even came with a to scale model of the Enterprise that could dock with the station.
