As much as I love Star Trek, I have to say that I didn't care for the Playmates action figures. Actually, I really didn't like them. The new figures from Art Asylum, however, are freakin' brilliant! The figure is superbly sculpted. I'm in awe at the care given to accurately represent this character in plastic. I am also impressed with their combined use of soft rubber and rigid plastic to provide a durable yet flexible toy. The paint job is amazing as well. I've got him standing by my monitor as I write this, and I'm so impressed with how good he looks. One other thing I like about this figure is that he is very posable, yet isn't sculpted into some permanent "action" pose that makes him difficult to play with and prevents him from standing on his own. The current line of Star Wars toys suffer from that fatal flaw and I have quit purchasing them because of that flaw. I would have liked Hasbro to have done with the Star Wars line, what Art Asylum has done with these Enterprise toys. Phlox is highly detailed, very posable, stands on his own, has great play value, and even comes with another head and set of hands for various situations. Sure, he's not that educational, but he's an action figure. This is an excellent design and an excellent execution of a concept.

THE DOCTOR IS IN, March 1, 2003

Offered only as a premium for signing up..., the availability of the Doctor Phlox Away Team Action Figure as an exclusive..., is a treat-and-a-half! All of the figures in the ART ASYLUM line of STAR TREK toys are simply fantastic, but the arrival of ENTERPRISE's jolly chief medical officeris a welcome addition to completing the set of adventures. Not as full featured as the other figures in the assortment, Dr. Phlox is still a vital part of this collection and a must for all fans!

Art Asylum scores again., February 25, 2003

Let's face it, there is no educational value in this toy. Unless you consider that it's the first action figure of it's species in the Star Trek universe. Art Asylum has again captured a great likeness, this time of John Billingsley's character Dr. Phlox. While the body doesn't quite match the fuller frame of the actor/character, the facial sculpt is once again a dead ringer. Kudos to the artists in the Asylum.
