Star Trek: Classic Enterprise NCC-1701 'Where No Man Has Gone Before' Previews Exclusive Starship

This is the third in the original trilogy of variants of the original Starship Enterprise from "Star Trek" by Art Asylum Toys. This version is styled as the ship appeared in the second pilot episode, "Where No Man Has Gone Before". As you can see from my reviews of the previous two released versions ( the "production" version and "The Cage" version ), there are some problems with the sizes and shapes of various components. Since all of the variants use the same basic molds for the bulk of the toy, these
inaccuracies are seen in all three of them. If you can live with these minor discrepancies, then I can definitely recommend this replica.

The main differences in all three versions lie in the minor details that were changed in each incarnation. This model looks very similar to the version filmed for the first pilot, "The Cage" ; both have the oversized deflector dish, spikes on the unlit engine nacelle domes, hollowed out 'intercooler' loops on the top rear of the engines, a taller bridge dome, no detailing on the shuttlebay doors...and so on.

The details that were changed for this version include; the rear end caps of the warp engines which were painted over with small round vents in a grid pattern, the impulse engine which was also painted over with these round vents, and the pylon connecting the saucer to the engineering hull, which was repainted to match the color of the rest of the ship (instead of the odd blue tint seen in the first pilot ). The rest of the notable changes involve various markings on the top of the saucer, which went through a couple of different variations before being discarded almost entirely for the familiar T.V. version.

The three Art Asylum replicas do a pretty good job ( with minor errors ) of recreating the looks of these different versions - especially when you consider that these are basically toys. If you are a hardcore fan of
the show and the Enterprise, then these are fun to own and display together. If are really only a casual fan, then you would probably be happiest with the "production" version, which best captures the look of
the filming model as it was detailed for the series. But these other variations are interesting, since, for economic reasons, footage of all three versions of the Enterprise did end up being used liberally throughout the run of the show ( often in the same episode ). So,
in this light, I can recommend all three of these toys, since there have been NO pre-built, pre-painted replicas of the "pilot" versions of the Enterprise made commercially available ever before.

The overall look of this model is great. The difference between this and the original Enterprise I noticed the most was the tips on the warp nacelles. Sadly the nacelles do not light up as it said on the box. I like the feature when you hold down the bridge for five seconds the lights will stay on until you decide to turn it off. This model sits right next to my NCC-1701-E model and it looks awesome. I recommend this if you don't pick and complain at every single detail, and if you want the enterprise from the original pilot episode. I personally wished I would have purchased the one without the tips on the nacelles but either way I'm satisfied.

This item is so cool! The sounds are straight from the original film and the lights are awesome to check out. Now, the negative. It is light which makes it not as durable if it was made out of something stronger material for more of that realistic feel. I like that you can set it up to have the lights flash without having to hear the soundbytes which have it stand out well as a really cool display piece.

I don 't like the base that it sits on because it is flimsy and does not hold the weight or shape of the enterprise in all it 's expected glory. But,It is so worth the price and a great classic addition.

The engines on this toy are shown on amazon.com as white the ship i got they are the same as the (mirror mirror enterprise)and (the cage enterprise) red with antenna array not white the color scheme is over all different than the other ships live long and prosper
