After the disappointment that was the Playmates Toys ST II TWOK Phaser released in 1996, Art Asylum / Diamond Select has FINALLY gotten it right this time!!

I have been waiting for an accurate, low-cost TWOK Phaser for a long time now, and was excited to hear last year that Art Asylum AKA Diamond Select would be continuing the success of the Original Series Classic Phaser "Trek Tek" series, with this amazing work of electronic engineering!

The Phaser is full of electronic lights and authentic sound effects with 6 unique settings and LED light sequences:

* Safety Mode - Phaser is locked and cannot be operated without knowing the unlock code.

* LOW STUN/HEAT * STUN * KILL * DISINTEGRATE * OVERLOAD

And each setting has an included authentic sound effect along with the light effects in unison.
When you 'fire" the Phaser, the Dilithium Crystal flickers briefly at the same time!

And like the Original Series Phaser, this Phaser also separates from the main Phaser body so you have a Type I Phaser that works independently from the main Type II Phaser body.

And when you reattach the Type I to the Type II main body; a Phaser "Charge Up" sound will be heard.

11 LED lights total, including an illuminated Dilithium Crystal Chamber, behind the Type I control panel!
The Playmates version only had 4 LEDs and none in the clear dilithium crystal.

If you're a fan of one of the best Trek films, then I highly recommend this Phaser Replica, as it is well worth the money, and for only $20, why buy it anywhere else??

The ST2 phaser is a very good replica/prop with two very authentic sound effects which are quite similar to those featured in the movie. My only hangup is that there are actually four sounds, and two of the four are made up/invented sounds we never heard and just sound terrible - I'd have been happy with just stun and kill since the others seem like fake variants to fill up the features list. I am also unsure why the "self destruct" effect features a transporter sound. The phaser 1 on this is also a bit on the awkward side - phaser 1 from the TOS phaser is much more sleek and stylish - I cannot imagine the phaser 1 on this to be carried on a belt - it just looks terrible. But once hooked up the pistol, the entire unit looks wonderful. I especially like the "safety" feature and the large button to turn on the unit.

Okay, I've had three different "representations" of the TMP/TWOK phaser over the years. I had the "phaser battle" set (from South Bend toys) which came out at the time of TMP, which were really pretty cool (basically "laser tag" but the sensor and emitter were both in the "phaser" - see info here: [...]), and later on the Playmates version (which was also OK). But this is by far the best I've seen. By the way, I've picked up both the TMP and TWOK versions... they're the same in terms of inner workings, but are cosmetically different (colored lights for TMP versus white lights for TWOK, silver for TWOK versus grey for TMP, etc).

As far as the TMP/TWOK phaser design goes, this is the definitive version as far as I'm concerned, and you can't go wrong buying either version (though I have to say, I like the TMP version better!)

I Highly recommend this toy/replica. It is extremely accurate and well made. It took a long time to bring to market, but it was VERY well worth the wait! It's FAR better than the playmates version from 1996. FAR better!
DST is by far the best at creating accurate, well made replicas at a great price.
This phaser design is a work of art. It really is beautifly designed. (Compared to the new Star Trek movie phaser, it puts it to shame. Whoever designed the props for the new movie is not nearly as talented as the person who designed this phaser prop in 1979 for the first Star Trek movie. STAR TREK THE MOTION PICTURE and next Wrath of Khan) It was only used for the first 2 films but in my opinion, was the best design for a pistol type weapon.
Anyway, buy this toy, you won't be disapointed!
I hope they produce a next generation, and voyager tricorder in the near future... as long as they keep up the excellent quality!!

A GREAT STAR TREK COLLECTIBLE AND A FANTASTIC REPLICA. AS ALWAYS, A SUPERB JOB BY ART ASYLUM/DIAMOND SELECT TOYS! IT'S REALLY HARD TO DISTINGUISH THIS FROM THE ACTUAL PROP FEATURED IN THE MOVIE. IT LOOKS AND SOUNDS JUST LIKE THE REAL THING! ACTUALLY, MORE FOR THE ADULT FANS, BUT I'M SURE KIDS WILL LOVE IT TOO.

They did a great job with this one. The lights and sound are great, and being able to detach the smaller phaser was an awesome touch. Operation and configuration don't match the description in the old Weapons and Field Equipment Technical Reference Manual by Shane Johnson (you have to be a super-nerd to know that one), but they did a first-rate job. The Playmates version was good, but this has better colors, lights, sound effects, and just about everything else. I suspect it isn't as durable as the playmantes version, and probably wouldn't survive an away mission with your kids. This one is really for adults.

I just received my phaser after pre-ordering months ago and i am very pleased with it. The lighting effect are simple yet look great, the magnet gimmick that attaches the phaser I to the phaser II works well. The only thing i found odd was that the phaser sound occurs upon release of the trigger rather when you press it. (similar to a mouse click on a PC).

The phaser is light weight ( a little to light in my opinion) but seems to hold up well. I dont know how sturdy it would be as a child's play thing, but as a geeks shelf display (and occasional handling) it should hold up well). If you or someone you love is a Trekkie from the movie era, this is a great item.

Although it dose not perform flawlessly as many of the art asylum toys it is a keeper and a nice addition to your star trek collection

For years as many people know Star Trek 2 the Wrath of Khan has been considered the best Star Trek movie, and now DST has come out with it's phaser!

After much waiting Diamond Select Toys finally came out with it's TWOK phaser, and it does not dissapoint! It has 5 power settings, safety, heat, stun, kill and disrupt, it has the detachable phaser 1 unit and it has enough lights to almost light up a room!

The whole phaser is solidly built, and although it is light, I don't expect it to break any time soon. It is a very accurate color, and one of the best replicas out there, the screw holes even have covers that make it even more cool looking..

The phaser 1 upper control panel is very nice, and features 6 LEDs and a trigger button for the phaser 1 and the power settings button. The Two phaser units connect very securely with magents and a small clip. The Phaser 2 unit is not just the handle for the phaser 1 it also has a light up Dilithium Knob that functions as the phaser on and off switch. The design over all is extremely accurate and blows the poor old Playmates Movie Phaser out of the ballpark. The handle even has a small pinky finger divit just like the real prop! It has a number of sounds, phaser on and off, safety beep, heat, stun, kill, disrupt, and a sound for when the phaser 1 is attached to the phaser 2. It also has a very cool overload sound effect. The sounds are all very loud. The lighting effect is different for every phaser setting, and are very bright, the control panel lights are amazing, and unlike the real prop which had the lights just run up and down, this replica has those lights not only run up and down but also show what setting you are on. I can't recommend this enough, it has the features and more then the expensive replicas and for only around 30 bucks!

Picked up the Phaser awhile back and it looks nearly identical to the screen used props without breaking the bank on a prop replica.

It has 4 settings. Heat/Low stun, Stun, Kill, and Disintegrate. Also has a safety mode and you can set it on overload. It's a really nice piece. The lights are LEDs and are really bright. The sounds are loud and clear. What is most surprising is it is run off of 3 watch batteries!

The Phaser one is detachable from the phaser two body. If you can find this definitely pick it up!
