Good music,

This review is from: Star Trek: Music from the Motion Picture Soundtrack (Paperback)
The product is a good deal if you like the soundtrack and would like to play it. Be advised that not all of the songs are in this book and some good music is missing like Nero sighted, run and shoot offense and Nero Death experience. The music that is there is good and follows very closely to the original score sound. The music is easy in some parts and a little more difficult in others. But overall if would like to play this music then this is the book to get.

Great Sheet Music--but need big hands,

I've always enjoyed getting piano sheet-music of various movie scores, especially Star Trek scores. I was excited when I saw this one--the score to the new movie isn't my favorite, but it has some decent moments in it--and bought it almost immediately.
The book is not the complete score; it doesn't have every piece and several of the pieces are actually abridged versions (for example, "Labor of Love", the best piece from the score, is almost three minutes long, but consists of only two pages of music in this book), but they are complete enough to be satisfying. For those who would are inclined and have the ability to do so, this book provides a great starting point for your own arrangements of these pieces. The music is not incredibly difficult, but is also not the easiest. Like many modern scores, the music to Star Trek has many odd rhythms. But, it's not overwhelming except to, perhaps, the most novice of piano-players. HOWEVER, be aware that there are some chords in this music that, to be blunt, would require your hands to have either a foot-wide span or about eight fingers. Some of the chords that stretch over an octave are rolls--easy enough with practice--but others are not rolls and are meant to be played at once. Some chords, as well, include 6-7 notes at once. I'm sure that they are intended, again with practice, so that you are hitting more than one key with a single finger in the chord, but that is a bit beyond my abilities at the moment. But, that is a minor detraction. Overall this book is enjoyable to play and it brings a grin to my face each time I hear the melodies coming out of my piano rather than my CD player.

I love this book, not only because it's star trek, but because of it's great music. But, this book is not for inexperienced pianists. There are some VERY tough chords, and I ended up ignoring the top note on some, because I couldn't reach it, and I have large hands. In short: Awesome, but not for the kiddies.
