Everybody's favorite Star Trek trickster god, Q (John de Lancie), returns to the Enterprise despite promises never to trouble the ship again. Q has been kicked out of the Q continuum, he's bored, and he's decided he wants to join the crew of the Enterprise and go exploring with them. When Captain Picard says no, Q gets angry and knocks the ship into a particularly dangerous part of the unexplored universe, just to see how well they can fend for themselves without his help. Guinan (Whoopi Goldberg), the bartender of Ten-Forward, has been to this part of space before, and she recommends leaving as quickly as possible. Needless to say, they don't leave fast enough, and they meet up with the cyborg race called the Borg. After one battle, the Borg prove to be stronger, and Guinan says their brief taste of human technology will no doubt spur them on to seek it out again. An auspicious introduction to a brilliant villain: the Borg. --Andy Spletzer

The Enterprise receives an unwelcome visitor - Q (John de Lancie), the omnipotent being with a strange fascination for Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) and the Enterprise. After Picard refuses to let Q join his crew, Q hurls the Enterprise to the far side of our galaxy. A Borg, a being who is part organic and part artificial, suddenly appears in the Main Engineering room and begins to drain information from the ship's computers.

A Borg vessel appears and the Borgs demand Picard's surrender. The captain refuses and a violent battle ensues which leaves both ships damaged and eighteen Enterprise crew members dead. As the Borg ship gives chase to the Enterprise, Q taunts Picard and reminds the captain how he scorned Q's offer to join the Enterprise. Will Picard be forced to beg for Q's help in order to save his ship and crew?

John de Lancie turns in yet another intriguing performance as Q, sending Picard (Patrick Stewart) and the crew of the USS Enterprise on their first fateful encounter with the Borg. Clearly this is one of the most fascinating episodes of "Star Trek: The Next Generation" ever written, revealing the Borg in an utterly alien, yet credible, light. It certainly ranks as among the most suspenseful hours of "Star Trek: The Next Generation". It's a pity most of the other episodes on the Borg weren't as well written as the first.

In this classic episode of The Next Generation, Q throws the Enterprise millions of light-years off course to show Picard that he really needs him in a Universe that's "not for the timid". Unfortunely, this lesson results in the death of 18 Enterprise crew members. A truly intense episode that drives home the point the writer wanted to make: space can be a wonderous but fatal place. "Q Who" is helped by an incedible tense and spooky score by composer Ron Jones(who was later fired by Ex. Producer Rick Berman because his music was too emotional). Probably my favorite Next Generation episode.

This video is an absolute MUST for all Borg fans, for this is the first epsiode in which the Borg appear. Consequently, the Borg have appeared in all the other Star Trek series (except the original series).

Q is also at his notorious best (the Q we love to hate) by putting Picard and the crew of the Enterprise in harm's way and watching as they fight to survive against the Borg. Picard must choose between his human pride and the lives of his crew.
