5.0 out of 5 stars Good mix from two good episodes
If you're a Star Trek fan, odd are you've heard many of the musical cues on this CD a hundred times before (many of them, esp. those from the Naked Time) were used multiple times throughout the series' three season run. So, to get a good, crisp version of them is a nice treat. The music elicits memories of Trek at its best. A must have for all Trek fans.

3.0 out of 5 stars Original music but not the best choice
The CD is all original music and I recognized a fair amount of it. Still, I thought picking these two episode titles a bit lame. Fine selection for the music collector.

I hate to keep heaping praises on one of my all time favorite TV shows, but the score for this TV series was very creative, and captured the mood of a scene to a T. Highly inspired stuff by Gerald Fried and Alexander Courage. In my case I can recall specific scenes and emotions for each piece. But it's more than that, because each piece of music is lyrical unto itself. It encapsulates an emotional story. From love to whimsy to intrigue to danger, it's all there. The "Ruth" piece is very endearing, and the piece after it gives us a sense of adventure, even heroics. We're hearing the emotional tones of the series encapsulated. Again, this was part of the extremely high production values for the series by Desilu Studios, a studio which was not known for high gloss and high budget productions, but we hear a sample of the values interjected in a project that they wanted to be successful.

And you know what? It works. The music, as I stated, is a little more whimsical than other shows, but the magic of Trek was that it hit upon all genres in story telling. This music reflects that superbly.

Buy and enjoy!
