Book Description

October 1, 2007
The almost Aesop-like parables in Star Trek laid down a philosophy of moral rectitude. However, the show did more by giving a positive vision of a future thought of as science fiction and unattainable in the 60s, such as existing as non-corporal beings and being able to manifest whatever we wanted with mind power alone. Now, more than 40 years later, we realize we can achieve these things, and it has been easier to accept current concepts evolving during these years because Star Trek paved the way. Also during the 60s A Course in Miracles was being scribed, and it espoused the same principles essential to Star Trek: we create our own reality; love is stronger than force of will; and all our reality is an illusion based on our perception.

About the Author

A recently ordained Metaphysical Theologian and an astrologer for more than thirty years, Carole Devine thought her career would be either in journalism or education. However, when she became a stay-at-home mom for fifteen years, she discovered the wisdom and insight of astrology. After completing studies and becoming certified, she made it her career in 1975. In 1987, while convalescing from surgery, she recognized the genius of Star Trek and also noticed its parallel themes with A Course in Miracles. She is the author of Solar Arc Directions and an astrological correspondence course on 112 CDs, Exploring Astrology. She now writes and lectures about metaphysical topics.

5.0 out of 5 stars Moral revelations, November 24, 2009

This review is from: Star Trek Revealed: The Spiritual Dimension of the Original Series (Hardcover)
As well as being a Star Trek fan of long standing, I was intrigued by the title of this one. My first thought was, 'What else is there to reveal, as it's already been on TV for years?' Now I understand that the author was explaining the subliminal messages in the series about everything that was wrong with Western society in the 60s-70s. Just reading about the individual programmes really took me back. And the moral revelations did not really come a surprise as I read. Carole Devine just made me think a bit more. A very enjoyable read.

As a fan of the original Star Trek series, I was impressed with the author's insight into the spiritual themes of the episodes. This is a must read for a Trekkie.

4.0 out of 5 stars Star Trek Original Series Examined from a Spiritual Perspective, October 20, 2007
This review is from: Star Trek Revealed: The Spiritual Dimension of the Original Series (Hardcover)
Miss Devine presents an absorbing and in-depth examination of elements from the original 1960's Star Trek TV series and how it presaged fantastic notions about reality that have been validated by modern physics and popularized by "new-age" science of the mind. She probes the reasons that Star Trek, and its creator Gene Roddenberry, grasped the popular mind and continues to spawn Star Trek series generation after generation. Fascinating read, so step into the world of Captain Kirk, Mr. Spock, and the entire crew of the Enterprise for an enjoyable introduction into the alternative and possible realities that may co-exist with our reality or be discovered in some not-so-distant future. The appendix offers in one place a list of many Resources for further exploration of current new-age thought and concepts.
