I bought this for my husband as a plotting (writing books and screenplays) tool. Dan Wells recommended it in his free "Story Structure" workshop (easily found online) and I didn't hesitate to order the book.

It's everything Wells said it would be, and in a familiar, Star Trek context. Wonderful!

I'm sure it's fine for roleplaying games. Probably great.

However, for writers who are looking for plotting and characterization tools, follow Wells' advice and snag a copy of this while you still can.

It looks like a pretty fun system, however the character sheets - while pretty - are very very hard to read due to their LCARs template. The system only requires 2d6 for those of us used to much more complicated die rules. I look forward to blending it with my Cthulhu Tech story.

While i would not want to use this guide as a stand alone system, it is remarkably helpful as a supplement to the Star Trek RPG Core Game Book. Apparently the RPG game design team changed hands between 1998 and 2002, and I consider the earlier system to be superior in many respects. However, the chapters on episode construction, starship operations, aliens and creatures are very detailed and help fill in some gaps in the core book. Sleek design, highly readable for fans, and beautifully illustrated.

for those who wish to play this version of the star trek game. This book is a must. it clarifies many details and give examples of established star trek main characters. while incomplete in the ship design it well get you started in the right direction. while there are no creatures in this book. the creature creation section well make it possible to make countless custom creatures. i gave this book 4 stars based on clarity how difficult it was to find information, and the availability of the system.

I purchased this product to run a Star Trek campaign that I had brewed up. It quite literally didn't help me a bit. Everything in that that was marginally useful I could find in the Narrator's Screen.
