I recently saw Leonard Nimoy and John De Lancie perform live Spock VS. Q and the sequel on Saturday night Jan 5 at a Slanted Fedora convention in the Meadowlands, NJ.

Spock meets Q and Q meets Spock for the first time. I love the dialogue and the outwittings between Spock and Q, Unfortunately Leonard Nimoy may not be Spock ever again. So this cd collection just...

Leonard Nimoy and John De Lancie bring the characters to life!

This is a great collection for any Star Trek Fan!

5.0 out of 5 stars adorable!, July 10, 2004

I think that all plot points worth mentioning have been covered in the official review so I will not go into depth about the plotlines of both CDs. However, I would like to express how unusually delightful it is to actually *listen* to this form of entertainment, which can best be described as a "play on tape".

The dialouge here is superbly crafted in both the original and the sequel and there is nary a moment without playful and interesting banter between Spock and Q. For those of you who are die-hard fans of Star Trek and have never given a shot to listening (as opposed to watching) you MUST give this a shot.

Both the orignal and the sequel lend themselves to repeated listenings.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible performance, October 25, 2005
This review is from: Star Trek: The Spock vs. Q Collection (Gift Set) (Audio CD)
When I bought the "Star Trek: The Spock vs. Q Collection" I knew I was in for something special but what I didn't know was how special it was going to be. This collection is absolutely hillarious, both Nemoy and DeLancie are in great form and the interaction between the two is not to be missed.
Two masters at their craft.
The story itself is great and so is the writing, the dialog is intelligent and the delivery is fast pace, you can tell they were having a lot fun performing together.
As a bonus you get a cd with a short preview on the show, if the complete show is available on dvd please let me know I'd buy it in a second.
Also I recommend the other five cds recorded by Alien Voices, you won't be sorry.

5.0 out of 5 stars Also includes an "Enhanced CD", September 27, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Star Trek: The Spock vs. Q Collection (Gift Set) (Audio CD)
This title is good enough by itself but I just thought I'd point out that it also comes with an "Enhanced CD with Video Footage". This consists of an approx. 130mb 5.31 minute MPEG file. This mpeg shows selected highlights from both cds. Considering a cd can hold 650mb its a bit disappointing they didnt use the whole cd. Having watched it I only wish Alien Voices would now release a DVD of this, I'm sure it would sell !!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure ST fun, January 2, 2007

This review is from: Star Trek: The Spock vs. Q Collection (Gift Set) (Audio CD)
This collection of two live performances is a lot of fun. In the first, "Spock vs. Q," Spock has come back in time to warn Earth of an impending disaster (an asteroid is about to strike the planet), but Q shows up to prevent him from altering the space-time continuum. In the second, "Spock vs. Q: The Sequel," Spock and Q have just returned from dinner when they are suddenly zapped out into space -- and have switched personalities.

Plotwise, the first CD is better than the second. The jokes wear a little thinner in the sequel, and while it's great hearing Spock laugh and joke, the gimmick only carries the narrative so far. In the first CD, the Spock/Q banter moves at such a fast pace that I found myself missing bits of cutting insults or inuendo or ST references. It was great.

Don't be fooled, however. These CDs are about much more than a few laughs and paper-thin plots. Like the best of Star Trek, these audio adventures are morality plays in disguise. Beyond the banter, these shows carry wonderful discussions (and messages) about humanity, love, the environment, charity, and even that often-taboo (within ST) subject of the divine.

This is a great collection, and a joy for any Star Trek fan.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cool concept!, September 7, 2005
This review is from: Star Trek: The Spock vs. Q Collection (Gift Set) (Audio CD)
I wasn't exactly sure what I had purchased. Being a ST fan, I was merely intrigued by the title. I wasn't disappointed. These two plays seemed to be great fun for Leonard Nimoy and John de Lancie. They displayed a great, witty reparte that was, for Spock, somewhat emotional at times. It was great fun to listen to their arguments and wonder what an episode or two with Q and Kirk's crew would have been like. Afterall, since Q is immortal and omnipotent, that shouldn't have been a problem, right? Enjoy! I certainly did. It made a long road trip tolerable.

You get both the original show & the sequel in this set. Almost as much fun as seeing it done in person at a Slanted Fedora con. (which was awesome in Chicago & Las Vegas).

I was very pleasantly surprised by the first performance -- it was nothing short of brilliant. The sequel, however, was silly and uninteresting. Still, I'd hate anyone to miss part one because of part two.

2.0 out of 5 stars Did Nimoy Sell-out or Just Do A Favor for Someone???, January 5, 2012

This review is from: Star Trek: The Spock vs. Q Collection (Gift Set) (Audio CD)
I am an "old school" Trek fan... I love the original series and its characters. To get to point, this story is actually a two man play recorded in front of a live audience - which is fine, but its written VERY "amatuer-ish" and is NOT true to the characters that we love in Trek. The story is in two parts, the first being Spock coming back in time to talk to a group of present day people about the impeding tradgegies on Earth (global warming, asteroids, etc.)and then Q shows up to get Spock's autograph (yes, you read that correctly - his autograph). This portion of the story is "okay" - at best. This portion of the story is the most "plausible" in terms of being true to the characters, but still fails.
The second part basically deals with Spock meeting Q again and the two sort of "exchange personalities". this portion of the story is painful... really painful. Hearing Spock say things like "Cool, baby" or "I am down with that" and laughing really hard and yelling "Whoopie!"... just is not true to the Spock character OR the Q character he supposedly switched personalities with. At the same time the Q character only modestly acts like Spock. In all a VERY poorly written play. If you are a Trek fan, just avoid this one. It really makes me wonder why Nimoy would do this... did he do it as a favor for a friend or just do it for the money (he is part onwer of the Alien Voices company that produces this).
