This was very well done graphic novel. This book we can see Spock looking back at choices he made thoughout his life before and after Starfleet. There is questions I have had in my mind about Spock that got answered in this book. Also there is a certain Guest star that pops up in the story that I was suprised to see pop up.
The author did a superb job with the writing and the artist did a excellent job in my opinion capturing Spock's likeness from young to old. This is a book for anyone who is a Star trek fan, A fan of Spock or both. I highly recommend this to anyone who likes stories that answer questions that you have had and the author answers them in their interpertation.

I felt that for like 13 dollars plus shipping that I would get a longer story. It's like 98 pages, but most of it is filled with giant pictures. It took me less than an hour to read. However, the quality of the artistry does make me think it was worth it. The pages are not made out of a cheap material. They're durable and have a glossy finish to them.

Now, the story itself. It's almost entirely flashbacks which for me made it a little slow-paced. I kept thinking, "all right, when's the real plot coming?" But, in retrospect, the flashbacks were enjoyable enough. There is some funny banter, and it's nice to learn some unaired details like how Spock learned about Kirk's real death.

Anyway, overall, I give this a thumbs up. If you like Star Trek and are interested in some of the details of Spock's adventures, buy it.

Beginning just before the release of the movie STAR TREK, IDW began publishing Star Trek comics that are notable not only for their artwork and stories, but for their appreciation and adherence to the Star Trek's universe history. For instance, STAR TREK: COUNTDOWN was the Star Trek story that should have been the next Star Trek movie.

STAR TREK: SPOCK-REFLECTIONS is a supplemental tie-in to the STAR TREK movie. The story follows Spock as he secretly travels from Romulus to Earth and back to Romulus. Along the way, the reader sees flashbacks from Spock's life illuminating why he is now on Romulus attempting to bring the teachings of the Vulcan philosopher Surak to the Romulans. Though the book is about Spock and his reflections and is a loose tie-in to the movie STAR TREK, the story brings together elements from various other Star Trek movies and wraps them up nicely.

The story unfolds at a slower pace than many other Star Trek stories, but that fits because the focus is on the character of Spock and not plot. There doesn't have to be great battles, large explosions, or massive firefights. Instead, the events unravel one at a time, at the end revealing a glimmer of what has made Spock who he is.

Like STAR TREK: COUNTDOWN, STAR TREK: SPOCK-REFLECTIONS contains some beautiful illustrations. The layouts done by David Messina, find a nice balance between a classical Star Trek style and the new sleek and flashy Star Trek look. It's a nice combination of old and new.

Star Trek fans will probably enjoy STAR TREK: SPOCK-REFLECTIONS as well as anyone who has an interest in Spock.

On a mysterious journey from Romulus to Federation territory, Spock reflects on his life and what brought him to his current situation - bringing Vulcan philosopher Surak's teachings to the Romulans. Spocks reflections highlight his life from his childhood on Vulcan, to his station aboard the Enterprise under Captains Pike and Kirk, to his recent quest to bring unification to the sister races of Vulans and Romulans.

I have been very impressed with the Star Trek comics that IDW has been producing; and this one is no exception. Artist David Messina does a fantastic job of rendering several familiar characters as well as new, and adding scenes and images that speak just as loud as words. Star Trek fans should certainly enjoy this poignant graphic novel. It's an absorbing and heart-tugging story about one of Star Trek's most interesting characters.

It is difficult to rate this because it has a fatal flaw. It contradicts the novel Star Trek "The Return" in which Kirk is resurrected and the ones that follow "Avenger", "Spectre", "Dark Victory", "Preserver", "Captain's Peril", "Captain's Blood", and "Captain's Glory". Otherwise I would rate it very highly.
