4.0 out of 5 stars Pleased but
I really enjoy having such a sureal model and toy of a truely great ship in the star trek line, but as with anything made in china it suffers in quality big time. My Enterprise even with new batteries will not light up any more and the warp necell on one side can barely stay on. Please lets start making things like these as well as other products in at least the same...

2.0 out of 5 stars Don't be fooled...
Okay, it looks nice. The lights are good.

BUT...................

The sounds are not interesting, and the main light show is n the warp nacells, which are not attatched and will come off.

YOU WILL LOSE THEM, AS I HAVE.

I was rather disappointed with it.

My Enterprise even with new batteries will not light up any more and the warp necell on one side can barely stay on. Please lets start making things like these as well as other products in at least the same continent as the show is produced! Most of my family and friends would prefer to have the word made in china disappear comepletely! Our dollars are going farther, but what we buy(made in china) does not last. Big business will never learn, all for a bigger buck, and less on quality.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for collectors, November 23, 2002

This is a well thought out replica for collectors.

Nacelles, deflector dish, impulse engine all light up once you flip the switch in the battery compartment to Normal play mode, as do the additional sound effects. It is set in demo mode at the store so that your batteries aren't drained before you buy it- good thinking Art Asylum.

Attachment for base is separate and if you want to hang the model in the air, you can just ignore the attachment. This makes the model a clean replica- again kudos to Art Asylum. In fact the entire replica has only 1 small screw.

Model is a little small compared to the Playmates ships but there is more detail and everything is already painted unlike Playmates where you still have to stick on the decals.

I hope Art Asylum makes ships from Nemesis some day.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Newest, Oldest Enterprise, October 1, 2002

The Enterprise NX-01 represents the first Starship Enterprise in the Star Trek universe, so although it's featured in the newest Trek series, this is the 'oldest' Enterprise.
This is a cool replica of the vessel seen on TV every week, with nice sound effects and terrific attention to detail- even though it seems to be missing two small protrusions on the upper hull which are visible on TV (and on the photos on back of the box). It captures the lean, "racehorse" look that characterizes the NX-01. The hull details are entirely accurate as far as I can tell; unfortunately they are painted on rather than molded in.
My only real complaints are the lights, which are placed so that you have to look directly at the front of the warp nacelles to see them (in the case of the impulse engines, you must look directly from the rear); the deflector dish, which is made of a soft plastic and was bent out of shape in my model; and the display stand, which is beautiful to look at but surprisingly flimsy. I replaced my display stand with one from a Star Wars Action Fleet toy (it takes just a minute with a Dremel drill to make a hole for the stand).
However, these are small flaws in an otherwise beautiful model. Kudos to Art Asylum for bringing it to us, and to the Trek producers for insisting on such an accurate reproduction (for a really horrible reproduction, see the Playmates brand "First Contact" USS Enterprise, which bore no resemblace to the ship seen in the film- and which may have had something to do with the change in manufacturers).
For Star Trek fans, the Enterprise NX-01 is worth the money and it was worth waiting for.

I love this ship its so detailed, playmates toys could never get detailed like this. they always fouled up on some little detail or something was the wrong color kinda like Hasbro did sometimes. I hope this ship sells i dont see why it wouldn't.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for in-scale battles with Playmates TOS Enterprise, March 25, 2003

The saucer diameter of this Enterprise is 7 inches, which puts it into pretty close scale with the Playmates TOS Enterprise, USS Voyager and TOS Romulan Bird of Prey toys. My 4-year old Jesse and I play together with these other ships and it's a blast with all the sound effects. I took my first NX-01 back to Toys R Us when after one day a plastic piece broke off one nacelle and it would no longer stay on. I found the best one on the shelf and it has no nacelle problems. You do get the hang of snapping them back on, battling a 4-year. I super glue a lot of my toys and I'm thinking about gluing on my nacelles, although younger kids will enjoy blasting the engines off.

For future Art Asylum Trek ships, I'll make my standard crazy plea for a separate switch for the lights--a button that keeps 'em on for one minute would rock. And I prefer the Playmates approach of 4 sounds with separate buttons, as long as they can hide the buttons well.

All in all, it's cool-looking enough just to stare at, but it's durable enough for real play. One of my favorites in a house full of Trek toys.

After finding out that playmates isn't making the Enterprise NX-01 , and that Art Asylum is I couldn't wait to buy it. Even though it is only 12 inches long it looks outstanding in every design. The warp nacelles give off an acurate color display. The paint color on the ship isn't cheap either unlike all of the other ships the playmates released (especially the Enterprise -E what were they thinking) If any one is not sure on buying this ship ,Well buy it!! I is diffently worth the money and looks great on anyones business desk or home or for play.

I was disapointed in how the nacelles kept popping off!! I ended up using superglue to keep them on.
Other than that, its a very nice looking model, feels sturdy, much more durable than a plastic model you put together.

Enterprise was a show that I was unfimiliar with, I was a Star Trek fan but Enterprise had not yet aired and I was strolling through town when I saw a sci fi shop with one open on the shop window. I recognised the unique design of a federation starship and was intriqued, so in I went to check it out. It was one of the most greatly detailed ships a company has ever made! and with its sound effects and lights it is a great toy, and for the older fan, display model! She can be used to educate as it makes kids use their imaginations to invent new and better ways to destroy the ship in great space battles! It does however, have flaws, Its nacelles are loose, not secure at all, and fall of easily, eventually they just never stay on. I had to take my first one back as one of the nacelles would not even go on to start with! But once you have a good one, it is a truly wonderfull piece of playable art. Good one AA ...

I love this thing! If you've bought previous Star Trek toys, like the Enterprise D from Playmates Toys you know what to expect. The major difference is all you need to do is turn the lights on, the nacelles are on as are the markings. NX-01, has just one button but gives you five sound effects from the show. It even includes an optional display stand, so you can put on your desk or table. Buy this ship. Then go to Vulcan.

When Art Asylum originally gained the contract to make Enterprise and other Star Trek toys, I was more than a little skeptical for a couple of reasons. For one thing, I didn't think that a toy company whose reputation rested on making replicas of Eminem and other sort of fringe genre figures would be able to appreciate the delicate art of pleasing the very demanding (myself included) group of hardcore Trekkers out there.

I was wrong. Art Asylum has done a superb job with the Star Trek contract, and has turned out the most beautiful set of toys I've seen, toys definitely meant for the 'adult collector' range of buyers. And this model of the Enterprise NX-01 is the jewel in the crown.

I purchased it right away when it came out almost a year ago, and was immediately struck by the quality and detail of the design. Clearly the creators of this 'toy' were thinking about its potential as a display item as much as a toy -- the stand, for example, is much sturdier than the more flimsy versions that have come out with previous starship models and attaches to the ship in a clever and ingenious way.

About the only downside to this model is there are some fit and finish issues which could have been improved, and to get the full effect, you have to download and attach some decals from their website. None of that has bothered me much, however, and I'm very pleased to own one of these for myself!
