Great Trek game, but quite demanding!,
By
This review is from: Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force (CD-ROM)
This is without question the best Star Trek game ever made - period - and the first-person shooter aspect makes it even better. The graphics are very nice to look at (it utilizes the Quake 3 engine), as are the weapons and dialogue between the characters. This game will probably be a little on the easy side for experienced gamers, since it offers few challenging puzzles. At the same time, however, the pace is quick enough to keep veterans interested and keep inexperienced players on the edge of their seat. Very well balanced for everyone concerned. The only downside to this game is the system requirements. You have to have a very sweet computer to run this game. I have a P III 750 mhz with 128 megs of RAM and a Voodoo 3 and there were still a few instances when the game action got very sluggish. Anyone with an older computer should probably stay away from the game, unless you want to set the graphics detail to the lowest setting, but even then you'll probably run into problems. It's too bad, really, that the game is so demanding, since it could have been almost perfect if it weren't for the system requirements. All in all, if you have a good computer, it is definitely a great game to purchase, regardless of if you're a Star Trek fan or not.

Magnificent! Resistance to this game is futile!,

Imagine, if you will the perfect Star Trek game. Beautiful cut scenes seamlessly integrated between pulse racing action scenes, faithful ship recreation, crafty puzzles and interactive environments. The list goes on. *This* is the Trek game everyone's been waiting for! This game is a dream! In single player mode, it really is like playing the TV show. Whereas only a couple of Star Trek games in the past have come up to this standard (e.g. Armada) most like Klingon Honour Guard have falled slightly short of the mark. The gameplay is Identical to Half Life / Quake 2 etc. The use of the Quake 3 engine fully recreates the starship Voyager's decks in stunning detail. The sound effects are also lifted straight from the show and most of the actors it seems have contributed their voices to their 3D counterparts. The icing on the cake is the cut scenes linking your character of Ensign Monroe into the story line and the command chain. Quake 3 style weaponry? You bet! From the simple phaser to the anti Borg gun, these pack a real punch! Raven have done a great job! If you like Quake, Half Life and Star Trek: Voyager you have no reason not to order this NOW! :)

Best Star Trek Game Made Yet!,
By Jennifer Davis (APO, AE United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force (CD-ROM)
I have to say that this game is by far the best Star Trek game on the market. It is also one of the best first person shooter games out there. Like other reviewers have said though you need a good system and a great graphics card to play it. I have a 550 Amd k62 with 128 mb of ram and an ATI all in wonder 16mb video card. It is a little jerky when there are a lot of opponents in the room. It was a little smoother on my friends 1ghz Athalon with the same video card and 256 mb of ram. The single player game may be too easy for hard core game people, but for us average folks it's great game play. I'm most impressed with the multiplayer games. They run smoother graphics wise and is great fun playing on the internet or disconected. The first patch is out for this game but I have not yet downloaded it, maybe it will help with some of the jerkyness in the single player mode. This game with it's single and multiplayer options is almost like getting two games in one as the two modes are so different. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is the system requirements and some ocassional jerky graphics in single player mode.

Fun!,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force (CD-ROM)
This game is sooooooo fun! Any fan of Voyager would like it. And, with all the modifications, multiplayer (holomatch) maps and skins (what your character looks like) you can download it certainly gets more fun. The only thing that could improve this is the expansion pack and its "explore voyager" mode.
Its even better with cheats: press tilda (the key next to 1 which looks like this `) and type "god" then hit enter. Now you have infinte health and armor! Type "give all" and hit enter. Now you have all the weapons (if you have the expansion pack for Elite Force installed, you also get a tricorder and a hypospray) When in the game, press "F11" and you take a screenshot. Go to the C:/Raven/Star Trek Voyager Elite Force/Baseef (or where you installed Elite Force) then click on the folder titled "Screenshots". All the screenshots are in .tga format so you need Microsoft Picture It! to view them.

The Best STAR TREK PC Game Yet,
By A Customer
This review is from: Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force (CD-ROM)
I am often a little disappointed when I buy a video game or PC game based on Gene Roddenberry's STAR TREK universe. But there are also times when I am genuinely pleased, and this is one of them. I am a longtime fan of first-person maze games like the Doom, Quake, and Star Wars Dark Forces series. Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force ranks right up there with the best. The graphics are immaculate, the storyline is consistently interesting, and the challenge is...well, challenging! And while the one-player adventure is very good, the multiplayer mode is even better. I love the fact than you can get some practice in by starting a "solo match" against computer-controlled characters. I have never played an online "death match" with Doom or any other game, but Elite Force makes me want to give it a try! I have only two complaints about this game: There aren't a lot of hidden rooms or secrets like in the other above mentioned games, and you need a pretty high-end PC to play it well. I got satisfying results on my P3/600, but not everyone has a machine that advanced.

The best "Trek" computer game ever!,
By
This review is from: Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force (CD-ROM)
Wow! This game is the greatest in the "Trek" games to be out for the PC. I've bought plenty of what's out there. Some have been good, and many have been bad, such as "Klingon". This has to be the best of all of them. They have really outdone themselves this time. The graphics are great, the sound effects superb. You almost feel as if you're actually in a television episode. The only mishap I had is when I purchased this game, I did not look at the box stating that a 3D card was required. My computer did not come with one when I bought it, so I had to do my first upgrade. It's only ... to get the Voodoo 3D card. Get that before you get this game, and you have it made. I only wish the other "Star Trek" games could be as impressive as this one.

One of the Best Trek Games Ever!,

This review is from: Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force (CD-ROM)
Star Trek: Elite Force is an excellent Star Trek Adventure. It puts you in the role of a member of the crew who's job is a leader of a sort of S.W.A.T. team. The game starts out with a simulation aboard a Borg ship. The graphics are very nicely done in this sequence and continue to be so throughout the entire game. You then get a chance to walk around Voyager on your way to a job duty. It looks and sounds just like the television show. It is awesome. The individual missions are well written and are very exciting. You will get to protect voyager from intruders as well as protecting other team members on away missions. Elite Force also features multiplayer options, like Unreal Tournament and Quake III. The levels are nicely drawn and they seem to run even faster than the actual game. I am running the game on a Celeron 400 with 64 megs of RAM and a Voodoo 4 with 32 megs. It is quite choppy at times, especially if there are a lot of enemies in the room at the same time. I am not sure if it is my machine to blame or if a patch is needed. Despite those flaws, this is one of the best Star Trek games ever. It has been a long time coming. Play long and prosper!

Good, but nothing original,

I downloaded the 115 meg demo as soon as I found it was available, eager to discover if Activision had succussfully accomplished what I had suspected about this title - the first good Star Trek game. I believe from playing the demo that they have finally done this, however, apart from the ST genre, it's nothing new. What it does have that UT and Q3A lack is a single-player plot, which I think is the best part of ST:EF. The borg are very well done and the atmosphere in the small playable sliver of single-player mode could not have been done better. Cut scenes are done within the game's engine rather than having been done by actors, which keeps the game seamless. There's really nothing here for non-Star Trek fans, which is a real shame. ST:EF has all the usual components: Deathmatch, CTF, and team play (of which only deathmatch is playable in the demo), but it doesn't introduce anything new. This was one of UT's strengths. UT had several play modes that were new twists on the well-established and tired deathmatch/ctf arena. It has always amazed me that the addictive spirit in the concept of Star Trek has never been successfully reproduced in a game. I'm still waiting for someone to introduce one in which you can explore space, interact with people on the ship, freely travel the ship and other locations. Maybe if they ever make a Star Trek EverQuest clone, this would be accomplished. The real downfall that annoys me most is the AI in the multiplayer mode. I am a HUGE fan of FPS and I have never seen bots move like the computer-controlled players in this game. Their movements are choppy, random, and 3 times faster than any movement you can make yourself with your character. In Q3A or UT, an enemy might run down a hallway, stop, look around or shoot, then turn and run some more. In ST:EF, an enemy would run down a hallway bobbing from left to right in erratic, super-fast fashion making for a quick head-ache. If I buy this game, I'll buy it for the single-player mode which has me highly impressed. However, I won't rush to the stores as soon as it releases and once I have it, I won't be in a hurry to introduce it in a LAN party. After playing the demo for DS9: the Fallen, however, I cannot wait for that one to release!

shockingly impressive,

The first 3D shooter game I've ever played was Doom. Since then I was an addict of these types of games (Hexen, Heretic, Quake, Duke Nukem, Blood, Jedi Knight...you name it) until I kind of "grew out" of it. I guess I just got sick of them in a way because there are just so many out there. So I never set my eye on these kinds of games again. But being a hardcore Star Trek fan, Elite Force really caught my attention. I just thought, "What the heck?", pulled two twenties out of my pocket, and took it home. I was really shocked! This game was fun! I just could not stop playing. Not only did it have good graphics, speed, etc., but it actually felt like I was part of an episode of Star Trek Voyager. That's what made it so fun to play for me, along with the heart-pumping action (unlike most 3D shooters, the monsters aren't those slow, zombie-type, moaning/growling type...monsters in this game actually scream, bum rush you and tear you up!). I am almost absolutely certain that any Star Trek fan would love this game. Even if you finish the game once, you'd still wanna play it again. If you get bored of that, then you'll end up downloading all the maps provided on Elite Force fan sites...every day it's something new in those sites. I'd definitely recommend this game to Trekkers out there, regardless of whether or not you like 3D shooters or not. The demo is not enough, trust me.

I LOVE THIS GAME!!!!,

Since the creation of consoles, I really had stopped playing PC games but this is an excellent game! The action is non-stop and the AI is onpoint. The only draw back is that I had to buy a new video card because my old card didn't support OpenGL. I would recommend this game to anyone who is a fan of first person shooters. I preferred the DS9 series but this game from the Voyager series rocks! Before you buy this game, make sure your computer meets the minimum requirements. If you are like me and have been in XBOX and Playstation world, give this PC game a try. You won't regret it.
