The Power of Sexuality, January 18, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Star Trek - Voyager, Episode 57: Blood Fever [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This episode tackles the complex web of issues regarding the power, seduction, and responsibility underlying sexual attraction. Afflicted by the Vulcan Pon Farr, B'Elanna dramatically embodies the deep and sometimes unconscious human struggle between normal consciousness and the hormone-aroused, instictually-driven self. In contrast, Tom Paris, who has not been afflicted as such, embodies moral clarity and maturity regarding his pre-existing attraction to B'Elanna, which includes his selflessness both in withholding and offering sexual contact. This is by far the most positive and exemplary depiction of sexual ethics I have yet seen. The characters and story are attractive and though within the genre of science fiction, the essence is certainly true to life. Engaging and uplifting, this episode makes a great departure point for sparking self-inquiry or a discussion between interested teens and parents on the topic of responsible, caring, self-aware sexual decison-making and behavior. It is also the beginning of the Tom and B'Elanna story arc in the series.

Vorik is wonderful., May 24, 2000

This review is from: Star Trek - Voyager, Episode 57: Blood Fever [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I was very impressed with this episode. I love Voyager and happened to turn on the t.v. the other night and see "Blood Fever" for the first time. I fell in love with it. Alexander Enburg (Vorik) and all the characters were excellent. I recommend this video for anyone who is intrigued by the Vulcan Pon Farr and just plain great acting. I would not recommend showing this episode to children. It has adult themes. It is not undecent or vulgar in anyway, but I recommend an adult viewing. A must see.
