4.0 out of 5 stars Slow in parts, but worth watching if you like S.T. Voyager., August 14, 1999

This review is from: Star Trek: 30 Years & Beyond [VHS] (VHS Tape)
The crews of all Star Trek series are here in this 30 year anniversary, except Picard/Stewart & Spock/Nimoy. Most of the guess host seem as if they lost a bet and were forced into hosting and praising the Star Trek crew. My best part of the show is when Janeway and the Frasier characters do a skit on stage for everyone to see. This is when I gained more respect for Kate Mulgrew's acting abilities. She played her Janeway character with believable strenght and charm. Her years of an on stage actress had really paid off for her. The Frasier crew, on the other hand, seemed to have had a lot of trouble acting in front of such a large audiance. Either they didn't rehearse the skit or maybe they're just not use to live performances? The rest of the show is of short clips from past star trek episodes with Kenny G doing the back ground music and NASA praising Star Trek again. I bought this VHS cassette for the Janeway skit but fast forward through most of the non-star trek stuff. If I was you, I'd buy this just to show your support for future productions.

3.0 out of 5 stars A good rental for the Star Trek enthusiast only, July 12, 2000

Set in an awards show style setting without the awards, I felt the show was very contrived and slow paced. It basically consists of cast members and a few other celebrities giving a teleprompted narative of how Star Trek affected them, followed by a series of clips from the various shows. It's greatest quality was the fact that all the cast members were present (minus Patrick Stewart and Leonard Nimoy) and we could see them all in their civilian clothing as real people. But the tone felt very thrown together, as when people are reading lines that are unrehearsed. I personally bought this in a bargain bin for 3.99 which was worth it, but I would rent this one before spending fifteen bucks.
