Amazing,

I'm not sure about how I'd have rated this CD had I been a fan of Harry Connick Jr. -and I'm not- but I'm giving it a relatively high rating simply because -in general- it exceeded my expectations.I had heard very good comments about Mr. Connick's music but I had also read somewhere that this particular CD was a kind of "experimental" work. Probably this was not the best choice to start with but, as I found it on a sale at a good price, I decided to give it a try... And I must confess that when I heard the first song "Space Turtle 1" I thought "Boy, what did you buy? ". But -fortunately- decided to give it a second chance and carefully listened to it all. Well, probably this is not the kind of music I'd have thought I was going to hear but it's not at all bad. The turtle stuff is indeed a bit weird but I tend to consider it as a kind of "wink" to the audience. All in all, this is something really different yet absolutely enjoyable and makes me think that I'd definitely like other more "orthodox" works from this artist.

This is a great record!!,

I never even listened to Harry Connick prior to hearing the "She" Cd. I was blown away by how good that record was and I soon found that this one is in the same musical vein as "She."In fact they sound so similar I wonder if they weren't recorded in the same sessions. These 2 Cds are very different from his other material. Much more Funk oriented. A lot of those who wanted to hear more Sinatra style stuff from Him didn't like these records. I wish he'd record more music like this though. It is very unique sounding to me. Sure the "Turtle" related tracks are kinda wierd but don't let those keep you from hearing the really great tracks in between.

Another facet of Mr. Connick's vast talent.,

Tsk tsk tsk. Shame on all those who have come out with cries of treason and abandonment. "Oh, Harry! Where is our dance music?" I wonder if anyone has ever stopped and realized that Harry has such incredible and wide-ranging musical ability that it would be almost criminal for him to focus all of his energy in one genre. Star Turtle contains some of the music that Harry grew up listening to--New Orleans jazz/funk. I can almost sympathize with those who find the intergalactic turtle concept a little hard to swallow, but when I can play 10 or more intruments well enough to put them on a major label recording, I'll start throwing stones. Harry wanted a chance to write and produce his own work and to have some fun playing the music he grew up playing. If it weren't for the influences that manifest themselves on the Star Turtle album, then the naysayers wouldn't have their precious dance music from Harry. Please, for the sake of those who haven't heard the music yet, unless you have a knowledge of music (real music) beyond that of FM radio, please refrain from openly displaying your ignorance...especially when it pertains to musical institutions such as Harry Connick, Jr.
