I'm talking about the (really) BIG Corellian ships now. When the OTC Millenium Falcon came out in 2003 which was retooled from the original vintage Kenner mold I only dreamed of having a larger scale Falcon and Hasbro responded, though as impressive looking as the new larger scale Falcon is, it is only frustratingly as cool as it should have been. Like Han's beloved ship, this bucket of bolts is always falling apart.

The Pros: IT'S MASSIVELY HUGE! Probably the biggest and best scaled Star Wars vehicle ever made and it's the next best thing to owning the bank-breaking Master Replicas Studio Scale prop replica costing thousands more. The cockpit now accommodates up to 4 action figures and illuminates when one of 3 different buttons are pressed that make the "hyperdrive," "liftoff" and "flyby" sounds while the hyperdrive glows a cool blue hue. The interior playset areas have been expanded to include a medical bay to recreate Luke's rescue from Cloud City. The landing ramp deploys with the touch of a button and slowly descends while making hydraulic sounds. The holochess table illuminates when one of 3 buttons are pressed with over 20 sounds and phrases from "A New Hope" including lines like "Let the Wookie win."

The Cons: The landing gear absolutely suck! They do not stay on at all. I tried every combination I could by carefully aligning the shapes with the groves and none of them would stay on and easily fall over. As Luke would say, "What a piece of junk!" I am probably going to permanently glue them on though I am hesitant to ruin such a relatively expensive collectible. Also, the plastic material is made out of that awful soft rubbery plastic that Hasbro has been using on everything it has been producing for the last few years for child safety reasons. It feels horribly cheap for a $150 toy that should have used a hard durable plastic in the overall construction. They sure don't make 'em like they used to. I would still like to have seen the cockpit and the adjacent corridor connect via an opening hatch and there's still only 1 gunner station instead of 2 like in the film for both top and bottom gun turrets which fire two spring-loaded projectile missiles. I'd rather the cannon barrels illuminated with strobbing lights and recoiled like in the film. There's an escape pod vehicle that deploys which is completely made-up. Supposedly the original designer of the Kenner Millenium Falcon wanted to include this feature in the vintage design. Kids may like it but I don't particularly care for it at all. It's already been done before on Padme's Naboo Royal Cruiser. I'd rather they used this area for another omitted movie feature like the topside elevator lift Lando used to rescue Luke from Cloud City.

Overall this hunk of junk is enormously impressive looking, but doesn't quite feel worth $150. Perhaps around an even $100 would have felt about right on the mark so don't judge it by its size alone. There were some missed opportunities to make this the truly definitive version of the Millenium Falcon. I'd try to pick this one up on sale, or if your lucky to win it in a chance card game of Sabaac. This baby's still got a few surprises left in her sweetheart.

Ok ... this was way too much money to spend on a toy but I remenber how much I loved the millennium falcon as a kid. I got in when out of town and you should have seen the looks I got from some of the kids when I was halling this huge thing through the airport. Some of the dads too.

My son loves playing with this toy. It has become the stage for all his star wars play. The sounds and lights are a nice touch. There is a lot of areas to explore.

One problem is the bottom landing gear don't stay on. I suggest tossing them. It works fine without them.

All in all, great toy if you want spoil your kid a little.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Falcon, not so good toy, August 7, 2008

Make no mistake about it, this is the best Millennium Falcon for 3.5 figures ever. The Falcon is HUGE, and the detail is incredible. Probably the best Star Wars 3.5 figure vehicle ever made.

I like it because it looks great on my desk; a great nod to my childhood memories. However, as a toy for a child, it's probably not so good. Frankly as its quite big, and I think would be hard to hold for them to run around the house holding it to make it "fly".

Again, it's HUGE, and the small detailed pieces can be broken easily, such as the chairs in the cockpit, and the landing gear.

So, if you are looking for an incredible Falcon reproduction for 3.5 figures, it's a no-brainer and worth the high price in my opinion. If it is for a child to be used as a toy (as intended) be prepared for broken and missing pieces.

4.0 out of 5 stars 5 year old son loves it - could use a durability lesson from toys made in the 80's IMO, December 5, 2008

My wife and I bought this for our son's 5th birthday. He loves Star Wars, and I figured it would stay together better than a Lego Star Wars set that would have been in pieces after a week. My son loves it, and so does his sister. It has good points and bad points.

Being from the 80's I remember Hasbro producing GI Joe vehicles that could take the worst punishment from a kid. It seems in the 2000's that Hasbro uses a rubbery plastic that just is cheap. It feel like a Halloween mask material, but harder. Almost like cartilage-like material. I personally don't like it- I hate it. I loved the tough & hard plastic old GI Joe vehicles were made of. You could drop it off your roof and it wouldn't even dent.

I like the detail of the toy- every hose and button and bolt can be seen on the exterior. I like how you can recreate scenes from the movie, like the training ball that Luke fights is in the space ship, the secret hatches they hide in etc. I also like the original sound effects and phrases from the movie. It has a bunch of cool lights on it, and the shooting missiles are fun too.

I hate the material it is made of, and the landing gear annoys me. I don't understand why Hasbro would sell a 150 dollar toy with such bad landing gear. I super glued it on, hopefully it will hold up. I also hate the hatch material, like when you lift up the cockpit, the top windshield always falls off. It is so annoying. I wish they used better plastic.

Anyways, my son loves it, and that is what matters most. He is happy, so it is a win with him. I just hope Hasbro reads some reviews and changes how they produce their toys in the future.

Update
OK- after having this toy for a couple weeks, I am seriously never going to buy a Hasbro product again! I tried a couple other Star Wars products and they are so lousy. The CEO only cares about money, not about quality. Stick to Mattel - they don't make the garbage that Hasbro is puking out. I swear all Hasbro product is cheap junk - from Transformers that fall apart to cheap GI Joe trash they are selling, and if this Falcon didn't have the Star Wars theme to it, it would be lucky to get one star. Don't buy this.

This is, without a doubt, the coolest Star Wars toy Hasbro has EVER created. It's huge, detailed, in good scale with the figures. I know $150 seems like a lot for a toy, but once you see this, you'll agree it's worth it.
Coolest feature, the boarding ramp. If you had the old Falcon, this will make you squeal with delight when you see it.
My ONLY complaints are these.
The landing gear is, as C3PO would say, "not entirely stable". And for $150, can we PLEASE not have to apply stickers? Hasbro, there has got to be someone you could pay to do this. As usual, a couple of my stickers ended up slightly skewed...and (even worse) I ended up scratching the cockpit canopy with the X-acto knife I was using to get the stupid stickers wedged into the areas my fingers couldn't fit into. Now, every time I look at my pretty new toy all I see is that darn scratch. Is there a place I can go to get a replacement canopy?
Overall though, this is a GREAT toy. If you're a fan, and have space for this gargantuan thing, BUY IT!!!

I was hesitant to purchase this toy after reading early reviews questioning its durability, ease of use, plastic quality, and landing gear integrity. After a few days' worth of play with my son, however, I can say this iteration of the Millennium Falcon has exceeded my expectations and nullified my original fears.

As stated throughout the reviews, the ship is impressively huge in size (almost creating the illusion of 1:1 scale with the figures) and hugely impressive in sculpted detail. I don't recall seeing even a retail collector's model of the Falcon with this level of hull detail. The interior embellishments are likewise beyond anything I've seen on a toy before (though the stickers included to further decorate the interior are maddening to apply). Regarding it's usability as a toy: the previous reviews are correct in that it is too large to be carried or "flown" as a spaceship (my seven year-old son can barely lift it) but it succeeds wildly as a stationary playset, which I believe was the probable intent. I have been reading the novels of the original trilogy and watching the movies with my son and periodically giving him various action figures from the saga to "spice up" the experience. Until recently he had shown little interest in playing with the toys despite a vigorous interest in the stories; upon receiving the Falcon, however, he immediately began generating adventures and creating his own action figure narratives centered around this monstrous vehicle. It really seems to have invigorated his connection with the stories and kindled his interest in the other toys (for better or worse, as he's now researching other $100+ vehicles to further his galactic adventures).

The landing gear are as unreliable as everyone says, although I wonder now if this, too, might not be by design. The landing gear are essential to elevate the craft so some nifty features may be used including a very cool automated landing ramp and some ventral laser cannons. Any large, heavy toy so precariously perched on several thin legs is apt to be pushed and tossed about with much shear stress between the landing gear and the hull. Should these legs be more securely attached they would likely break off. I therefore think they were designed to disengage so easily to avoid such damage. It is annoying, but after playing with the craft I no longer see a good alternative. I first considered gluing them on as others have mentioned, but I am now certain that would simply induce the kind of breakage theorized above.

Perhaps my greatest uncertainty about the product before purchase was the "soft" plastic mentioned in other reviews, supposedly akin to firm rubber. After handling the toy I can honestly say I don't comprehend this complaint as it seems nearly as rigid and sturdy as the toy vehicles I enjoyed in the 80's. Some give can be detected in the larger, thinner segments of the chassis, but this seems only natural for a toy of this size. Anything harder, like the polystyrene used in models, would likely chip and break more easily. I have built models since childhood, played with a lot of plastic toys in my youth, and dabbled in painting plastic and resin models. The material used for this toy seems, to me, perfectly appropriate for its size and function.

The included action figures are very good. Han is extremely well detailed, featuring all of his pilot's gear from the first film and a blaster which fits firmly in both his holster and his hand at the same time. He is also extremely articulated, allowing him to comfortably sit in the pilot's seat or hold his holstered pistol in the aforementioned ready-to-draw pose. The towering Chewbacca figure in this set is the best Chewie I've ever seen.

There have been innumerable Star Wars toys over the last thirty-odd years, some delightful and some awful. This new Millennium Falcon is, without hyperbole, one of the best ever. My son could not be happier with it and I am thoroughly satisfied with my purchase.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not an Average Toy, December 18, 2008

A recent rather hate-filled review was posted stating that this toy is not a good idea for a Christmas gift stating the overly mentioned flaws that go along with a toy of this size. I am here to try and set the record straight.

I purchased this last week for my Son as a Christmas gift, and Santa had to open the box and get it pre-stickered and powered up for Christmas Day. I was shocked to find a well put together toy. ALL of the outer panels and storage panels fit well where they were supposed to. They canopy opened and closed easily. Now, I did not bother with the landing gear as the base is essentially flat so unless you plan to use the door ALL the time, you won't need the landing gear.

Basically, this is a toy that is meant to be played with. It isn't meant to be picked up and flown around the room. It is meant to be a playset, and it does a wonderful job. If you had the older models of the Falcon, then you will be blown away by this toy. Personally, I can't want to watch Star Wars with my Son AGAIN while recreating the scenes on the floor with him.

Did I mention he's 3?

You will have a Merry Christmas with you child if you purchase this item. Enjoy.

The other writers were underemphasizing the flaws in the design of what should have been a great toy. I looked at the negative problems with their reviews, and thought, "It can't be as bad as all that."

Oh yes it is.

The infamous landing gear legs do not fit properly, making it impossible to use them.

The plastic is butter-soft, and the pegs that hold the cockpit canopy into the slots came so badly bent inwards that the canopy would not go on or stay on. The enclosed figures do not fit easily into the cockpit or onto the standing pegs. The smuggler plates in the floor do not fit in correctly, causing them to bulge upwards. The laser cannon seat does not allow Captain Solo very easy access.

Conceptually, this toy is very well designed. I have no doubt that it looked great on paper and that the model that was shown to the execs looked great... probably because it was made of better materials than this one. It's the mass-production execution that sinks this. The lighting and effects are great. The same can be said for the way some of the pieces move. Nevertheless, if the MAJOR elements don't work properly, it's hard to enjoy the cool details.

If you're looking to have a second childhood with this, you'll only walk away with a bitter feeling of "it ain't like it used to be." If you buy this for a kid, the kid will expect the major elements to work, and the gift-giving will devolve into "a learning experience" about declining standards of mass production or something. One way or the other, the kid's gonna be really let down. With a toy this expensive, several other, smaller toys, that WOULD have worked, will probably have been skipped over.

Given that this simply DOES NOT WORK, I could not recommend it at any price. Certainly not this one.

I had orginally purchased this in 2008 for around $130.00 at target. I was astonished how much it is now with the re-release just two years later at $180.00. The one I purchased in 2008 at Target was missing the rear exhaust panel "the panel with the six circular shapes". It had really bad landing gear. They would literally fall off, and a misshapen cockpit window. Needless to say, it went back to the store. This was supposed to be the holy grail of Toy Star Wars Vehicles. It was not... Fast Forward 2 years. Everyday I would watch Amazon for price drops on this. I knew it would come. Sure enough, saw it for $89.99 last week. It's worth this price and I snatched it up. I am actually pretty impressed compared to two years ago. The landing gear is pretty snug this time around, the pieces are all there, but the cockpit window is still a little misshaped. If only Hasbro would make the window out of a harder plastic, redesign the hinge, and put some snaps on it. Overall, this time around, I'm pretty satisfied with this. Getting it for $89.99 was a steal. I love Amazon, but their prices fluctuate constantly, so keep an eye out if there is an item you want. When it's at the price you want, you better go for it.

Hmm. Since I have posted this now, Amazon will probably reduce the price on it to $19.99. LOL

Now if Hasbro would only reissue or remake an awesome G.I Joe Skystriker!!!!!!!!!!!

Everyone knows about the fastest ship in the galaxy! Unfortunately, we have been waiting for some time for a new Millenium Falcon. The last one was good. The landing gear was flimsy and the ramp was obnoxious but it was fun. However, the mold was 31 years old and the toy was not very different from the one in '77. This new one is a different story. This is the most high-tech toy I have seen! I mean, a ramp that opens by itself? If a robot uprising occurs, it's this thing's fault!

I got it the day it came out and was astonished the moment I saw it. If I remember, there's no Styrofoam (thank goodness.) The thing's 2 1/2 feet long! The Millenium Falcon's landing gear kept messing up so I said "The heck with it!" Besides, landing gear's more for display if you ask me.

Warnings: Heavy! Do not drop on foot or screaming will occur. Tasting bad hazard! Do not eat the Millenium Falcon! THAT MEANS YOU, SPACE SLUGS! Try not to stub your toe on it.

Pros: An escape pod! Or a docked fighter! Or is it a captured enemy fighter? Your choice!

Buttons! Some need to be held down for extra things. It has a lot of buttons and sounds and noises. Don't forget the lights!

5 launchers! Watch the eyes!

Dejarik Board! It has holopieces (Complete with holorook killing holoknight!)

Han and Chewie! The captains!

Med Bay! For hyperspace sick people!

Cabinet! I put a swoop bike there!

Smuggling stuff! 2 compartments

Some other stuff!

Cons: What cons?
