4.0 out of 5 stars The New ARC-170 Starfighter
A new movie and we get a large new ship to go with it! This is a cool looking fighter and it is comparable in size to the old FX X-Wing. It has space for three crew members plus a droid - none of which come with the vehicle. There is a retractable gear in the nose, and a "control stick" that pops out the bottom. 3.0 out of 5 stars Cool but will not stay together
Overall, this is a really cool toy with a lot of features.....basically, the same thing that everybody else has written. The only MAJOR complaint I have is that it DOES NOT STAY TOGETHER. The wings fall off very easily, as well as the guns that mount to the bottom of the wings. It is very difficult for my 5 year old son to fly around the room without it falling apart...

Pull a trigger on the stick to drop bombs from another small compartment. The S-foils open on the wings and are manually operated without a switch. The wing cannon fire a missile and have a little rotating gun. There are two canopies and some cockpit detail. There is the tailgun that rotates and elevates. The ship assembles easily, with pieces snapping together.

The amount detail is reasonable, but not as good as with past Hasbro Star Wars vehicles. In a glaring lack of quality, screw-holes were left all over the right side of the vehicle, and the undersides of the wings (you can actually see this in the picture of the ARC-170 on Hasbro's Star Wars toy website. Other companies manage to fill in or conceal these holes on their vehicles, so why Hasbro didn't do that is puzzling and it wrecks the overall look of the fighter. It is also nearly impossible (at this early stage) to find the Clone Pilots that crew this vehicle and the Republic Gunship. Hopefully these will be avaliable in much greater numbers here on amazon and at other stores in the near future. The rebel pilots I have flying the thing now just don't look quite right!

The Hasbro ARC-170 is an ambitious attempt, but falls short of its potential - the exposed screw-holes and unavaliability of the pilots being the real sticklers. The Red 1 X-wing and Y-Wing avaliable a few months ago were actually better vehicles, in my opinion.

Finally we get a starfighter intended for clones and what makes it even better is that it can fit 3 pilots in and 1 astromech figure! It features firing cannons, opening wing parts, swivelling tail turret and it is simply awesome for any collector or fun lovin kid, you finally feel like your getting your dollars worth! So by it when you can because if other people are like me giving answers about how good it is then they won't last long!

This toy is sweet. i love putting my characters in it, but be warned: dont try to put the jedi in it. They'll fit, but it'll be tight and really hard and their skirts will get in the way. If you try to fit them in to hard, the glass top will pop off, and u will have to put it back on. it's still a great toy to have.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sweet New Star Wars Ship!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, April 28, 2005

This new ship is great!! It is soooo easy to build, but getting the stickers on is a little tricky. Most of the pieces just click together.
As you may have heard from other reviews, you can see the holes where the screws are drilled in, but you get used to it, and you can't even see them from a distance.
The handle totaly blends in with the ship, and if you don't like how it looks, just push it up and close the two doors, but the handle is a little small and only fits in a child's hand.
There is a cockpit for three, and a space for an R2 or R5 or an R4 unit. The new pilots are hard to find, but clone troopers look just as cool.
The ship is slightly larger than a republic gunship. This toy is totaly worth the price I payed, and if I could, I'd have an entire fleet of them.
I would say this is suitable for ages 8 and up. Over all this is a great ship for any star wars fan's collection. I love this toy !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Buy....for little bro's Birthday!, July 20, 2005

I just turned 13, and I still play with some Star Wars toys. (haha) Anyway, today is my brother's 4th Birthday, and I thought I would review about it, since I was playing with it, probably more than him which is pathetic. (haha) The ARC-170 is a reletively large ship, and actually pretty heavy for a 4 year old. Stickers were kind of annoying to put on for him, because I'm just not the best person with stickers. I really have no complaints for this toy, except for that it doesn't come with ANY figures. It would be nice if it did, because then you wouldn't have to spend and extra like $15 on clone pilots. I also noticed that when my brother was playing with it, he was using a control stick that comes out of the bottom. I thought that was a clevor idea, except that it had the button to release the bombs on it. Every time my little brother tried to fly it, the bombs would obviously release. Since I'm older, I can just work around it and hold it so that I don't push it, but my brother doesn't seem to know how to do that. (Even though I tried teaching him). Besides those two complaints, it was a great buy, and I would recomend it to anyone who enjoys flying ships around! May the Force be with you.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good, but not great ship/toy..., April 10, 2005
= Durability:3.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:1.0 out of 5 stars

In regards to the ship and an evaluation of it I cannot add anything else that the prior reviewers have not already covered. I agree with them that the lack of weathering that has almost been a signature with STAR WARS vehicles since their return in the late '90s is disappointing. The inattention to detail that is made evident by their unwillingness to cover or otherwise conceal the screw holes is somewhat annoying. On a personal note, I find the lack of electronic sound effects disappointing as well, although many other owners of this ship would probably appreciate this.
On a positive note, although I will always maintain that the now classic FX-X wing will be the finest vehicle of the STAR WARS line of toys, the ARC-170 is a unique and refreshing design that is oddly appealing to me. In typical toy company fashion, with the eventual reissue of this vehicle I am hoping that Hasbro will address the issues that have been brought forth regarding this interestingly attractive ship. If this were to happen, a good ship may end up becoming a rather great one...

I just got this toy for my birthday, and it is the coolest Revenge of the sith vehicle out right now. It has firing missiles, a tail gunner, and a socket for an R2-D2 figure to fit in. also, it assembles so easily that you can play with it within three minutes. as mentioned before, the doors for the handle make it to small for most to use, but I just remove the doors when the handle is out and problem solved. Yeah, the screw holes show, but unless your some lifeless geek who is going to put it on a shelf to gather dust forever, it really isn't that big a deal, and the left side has no screw holes at all.

I just realized what I love about the design of this ship. It's supposed to be "Aggressive ReConassaince" hence the name "ARC" and the art team apparently took their styling cues from the beautiful classic of the 1940s South Pacific, the Northrop P-61 Black Widow. Check out the canopy, how it blends into the fuselage to finish with the tail gunner... it is darn near identical to the Northrop. Nice work. Fun toy. Too bad this is the last time we'll get new toys from a new Star Wars movie... and it's too bad Star TREK is a better series of movies but has way fewer and much suckier toys... but this is a classic Star Wars bundle of goodness in the tradition of those mammoth Kenner plastic monstrosities of the early 80s. This thing is huge and solid, I can use it in a pinch to hold my car up while I change a tire. But I drive a foreign car. Still, it's a durable toy. And easy on the eyes. Fun to look at and play with. Especially considering most of the other new vehicle and spaceship toys from Episode III, at least the ones out now in these pre-movie release days, are pretty lackluster. I mean, Grievous's Husqvarna chainsaw bike and the Wookie catamaran? Lame. But this ARC-170. It is cool. Hop in the cockpit and it will fly you to flavor country.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Fun, But Not Without Flaws, June 12, 2005

They did a pretty good job with this one. The bang for the buck is high - the vehicle is a good size and can carry three people and an R2 droid. (Unlike the "Obi-Wan's Jedi Starfighter" and "Anakin's Jedi Starfighter" vehicles, this one actually fits the Episode 3 droids.) The firing projectiles and dropping bombs are pretty cool.

The wings do pop out, but it's a manual process of pulling each of the four pop-out sections up and snapping them into place. Other vehicles with pop-out wings have release switches or lever-action to open/close them; this one doesn't. One particular item to note is that the bottom pop-out wing portions feel like they're not attached very well. They are, they just don't FEEL like it.

The handle that flips down and allows you to drop the bombs is a nifty idea that works pretty well. It is a little small, though, and doesn't come out very far, so folks with larger hands (say, larger than a 10 year old) will have to adjust their grip accordingly.

I really like the ship, though. You see this and you kind of wish they would add some of the keener innovations to the older model ships and re-issue them.
