A Little Different, But Overall Not Bad,

The Star Wars 2009 Clone Wars Animated Action Figure CW No. 44 Commander Stone is a decent figure. This one is the first of a new sculpt for clone troopers. The changes are swivel hands, no ankle movement, no upper torso movement, little movement on the waist, better elbow joints, less movement on the shoulders, and ball-jointed head. Not as good as other clone troopers, but still a good figure to pick up.

Well, it looks like Hasbro is cutting costs with the clone troopers of the Clone Wars line. Unlike most of his predecessors (including the amazing ARF trooper), Commander Stone lacks ankle articulation and the ball torso joint. The paint applications are nice and crisp, with little-to-no slop, but it's difficult to get Stone into a decent pose. Also, I had hoped that Stone's armor scheme would be a red similar to Jek's, Rys's, and Thire's, based on the product picture. Unfortunately for me, Stone's armor is more of a darker maroon--more brownish, really. As someone who likes to set up figures in interesting or amusing poses, I found Commander Stone to be rather lacking. But the target audience (kids) probably wouldn't have a problem with the lack of articulation and poseability. The only "problems" for the kids might be that Stone's a minor character with an "ugly" or "uncool" color scheme. Oh, and mind the removable helmet and the tiny blaster pistols--they might get lost or they might prove to be choking hazards. Really, though, it depends on what you're looking for.
