This is a huge book of gorgeous Star Wars art. The book's about 10 by 12 inches and some of the illustrations inside are printed close to A4 size, and even larger for those that bleed to the edge or printed across two pages. Printing them huge is the only way to do it. Some even have additional cropped views for a closer look at the details. The paper is the thick low gloss type. There are 176 pages.

I like this book more than the earlier books Star Wars Art: Visions and Star Wars Art: Comics. Here, most are just classic Star Wars art. Majority are character based with just a handful featuring spaceships and space.

The art is great. They aren't created specially for this book but are curated from all sorts of promotional material, merchandise, etc. The quality is outstanding and awe-inspiring. You expect nothing less when there are names like Ralph McQuarrie, Tsuneo Sanda, Dave Dorman, Jerry Vanderstelt, Terese Nielson, Drew Struzan, Dave Seeley and many more.

Some of the paintings are really detailed and you really have to pause and admire them. Again, it's good that they are printed huge. Tsuneo Sanda's illustrations seem to be infused with some sort of magical glow. While you might have seen some of the art from other books or sources, it's nice to have them all collected in one volume.

This is an excellent book. Definitely one of the best Star Wars artbooks around.

Highly recommended.

"Along time ago in a galaxy far, far away..."

George Lucas, the creator of the "Star Wars" Saga, once described himself to journalist Bill Moyers, as a romantic. Part of this personal ideal is a fondness for the art of the past. This can explain Mr. Lucas' affection for movie poster art of Hollywood's bygone era, and his preference to feature posters of his films painted by talented illustrators rather than created using photographic design techniques which is the norm in contemporary Hollywood movies. Hence, nearly all the posters promoting Mr. Lucas' "Star Wars" 6 film cycle have envisioned his "galaxy, far, far away" through the use of the pencil or the brush rather than the lens of a camera. From even before the beginning of the success that became the "Star Wars" Saga, Mr. Lucas used art as a means to not only bring his ideas to life, but to also further showcase his mythic story to a worldwide audience. "Star Wars Art: Illustration" is a book featuring a wealth of artistic renderings detailing the many people, places and things that are a still growing part of this vast, imaginative universe.

By the Maker, this is a beautiful book!

As a "Star Wars" fan from its earliest days, I was presupposed to enjoy this collection, but when I opened the book, adorned with a lush painting of Jedi Master Yoda by Jerry Vanderstelt on its dustcover, my enthusiasm was confirmed by 2 pieces of art reproduced on its first few pages: The cover to Alan Dean Foster's 1978 novel, "Splinter of the Mind's Eye," and the cover to the very first "Star Wars" novel, subtitled "From the Adventures of Luke Skywalker," ghost written by Mr. Foster for George Lucas, and published in 1976.

I love this book! I find myself looking at every art piece with new eyes every time I pick it up. The printing was vivid and details are not blown out like some art books. Of the Star Wars Art books, this one is surely my favorite.

The art presented herein is simply beautiful, sometimes providing alternate takes on well-known characters/events, and sometimes providing glimpses of things only referred to in the movies and books.
