It took me 2 weeks to find this awesome little droid after I saw the movie. I have the deluxe Tatooine R2 with the lights and sounds, but I got this one anyway. The paint job is the best I have seen so far on these AOTC figures. I usually compare 2 or 3 figures, but I didn't have to this time, even though there were 5 more next to it. Anyway, R2 features 6 different sounds and a BLINKING LIGHT, which is VERRRY bright. The centipedes are cool, too. Buy this figure, if you haven't already. You won't regret it.

... the R2-D2 is uber-cool. What makes it are the truly neat sound effects and light display. My cat is enthralled by it everytime I activate it. Collection 1, #14

I am an avid collector of toys, particularly anything to do with the holy trilogy Star Wars. Naturally, I hold droid R2D2 in very high regards...but just because he's a hero on the silver screen doesn't guarantee that his action figure will be equally great. I am surprised to say, however, that not only am I fully impressed with Hasbro's take on R2, but I have it proudly displayed on my shelf, as well. There are so many questions I ask myself whenever reviewing a toy: Does it look good? Is it durable? Does it bear a reasonable likeness to the character after which it was designed? Little R2 passes the test with flying colors! It's definitely one of the finest toys out of the Hasbro line.

This is a pretty good action figure. The asassin centipedes are very well painted an detailed. They're very flexible(but I wouldn't reccomend bending them to much) R2 himself is one of the best detailed figures! It's beautiful. It looks just like real R2. It is so cool that you can push a button and it does that stuff. That's one of the reasons you should get it. You can move it's legs, so this is probably the best figure to buy for little kids. Definetly buy this one!:)

This artoo is pretty cool. The little bugs were nicley painted, but I didn't bother taking them out of the box. R2-D2 himself is alot better than the last one I bought in the 90's. Remember the one with the retractable leg and the two other legs that had almost no articulation. Fortuneatley, This one's "ankles" have joints, so that he actually looks like Artoo. The other good feature is the electric lights and sound. The sound effects aren't too repetitive: He can "say" about 6 different things I think, and each time you push the activation button Artoo makes a different combination of beeps and whistles each time. His little eye blinks too! The only problem was his dome. First, the weak silver paint job didn't impress me. Second, the ugly mold crease around his head looked too...well...ugly, but maybe I'm being too harsh. Last, his head has NO articulation what so ever!!! This I know is because of the electronic mechanism but from what I've seen, the Episode 1 Artoo looked alot more fun. Artoo's body on this particular Ep. 2 version is well done in comparison to the old '95 version. The blue markings are a better hue of blue, and the details and panels are in higher contrast due to better molding technology. This figure is of course WAAAAAAAAAY better than the OOOOLD Artoo from the 70's. That one had a closer resemblance to Mama Cass than an R2-D2. My guess is that the people who sculpted that figure never saw the movie! Well, I bought the Coruscant chase Kenobi and Kamino Jango Fett when I bought this little guy. If I had a choice, I'd return this one and buy another Jango. I should stop capping down on the little guy. He's staring at me as I type this and I'm afraid he'll get [angry] and give me a taste of his power charge arm! Buy this figure if you like the sound effects, but if that's not enough, don't bother. My favorite sound is the little wimper he makes. Remember when the Jawas shot him with the ion gun and Artoo fell over? That's the sound!

This one is one of the best in the series of HASBRO figures. Of course, it's dead easy to make the droids look realistic in toy form, but regardless, HASBRO have done a bang-up job of this one. Plus, best of all, he makes several "beeping" sounds when you push the button on the front of the droid. He also comes with two little Kohun assasin critters. Little R2-D2 takes pride of place on my bookshelf.

I just had to leave a review after hearing the geek whining about how R2's head don't move (oh boo hoo, squish, squish). There are a dozen renderings of R2-D2 in the current line, and there will probably be a dozen more by the time that the line is done. If a figure can offer a new feature, ie sound and light effects, I can accept it losing a feature that other versions already have. The sculpting, and scale are accurate. The paint deco is great, and done neatly. My verdict? Two thumbs up skipper!!!

This little R2 figure is way cool! It is by far one of the best versions of R2 including the blinking lights and sounds. The legs and dome top swivel of course and R2 is packed with detail. One of my favorites!

The STAR WARS action figure has experienced a new revamped generation and the old standards that you remember have been given a next level facelift and these new action figures have a look which place them amongst their higher priced counterparts found at upscale yupscale toy stores like The Games People in Gastown in Vancouver, and also Kids Market at Granville Island also in Vancouver Canada.
The old 70s STAR WARS R2D2 was a hastily made derelict specimen compared to this one which has carved features rather than features depicted with a stick on printed paper sticker. This R2D2 has lights and sounds and looks great next to my retro collection of STAR WARS classic figures. When STAR WARS was released I was 7 years old and at that time, I was simply not in the state of mind to seriously consider starting a STAR WARS action figure as I was grappling with the morass of grade school life and all the evils attendant upon that as well as dealing with the viccissitudes of home life. This Artoo Detoo action figure also has an insectoid entourage as it is accompanied by two arthropods which are decidedly lacking in the cuddly factor. In fact, these two nemesis insects were sent to kill the Senator Padme Amidala during the formative years of her Senatorial stint after having stepped down as the Reigning Queen of Naboo. I am glad that George Lucas decided to re-release the action figures in a tweaked up form. Many people the first time around either did not have the money or were living with their parents, or high on drugs or in prison in 1978 so could not collect the first run of STAR WARS action figures. I say 1978 because even at Christmas 1977, there were no STAR WARS action figures to anticipate the marketing demand, a sin what would never be committed today. During the Christmas of 1977, people were given promotional coupons which they could mail in to get STAR WARS figures or whatever but anyway, they did not start hitting the toy store shelves until the summer of 1978 and they have not gone away ever since. Now, if love is sweeter the second time around, the STAR WARS action figures give middle aged people a chance to recollect the action figures they could not before and have them without worrying about siblings or even parents confiscating them for whatever reason be it covetousness or resentment during the days they had to share their housespace if not their room with familial others.

This little R2D2 is super cute and well done, but I have no idea why it is described as being 3.75" tall as it isn't even three according to my ruler. I'm sure this will be liked by the recipient anyway, but I was looking for something a little bit bigger. Oh well.
