The best Star Wars action figure Ship to date!,

This review is from: Star Wars Attack of the Clones REPUBLIC GUNSHIP (AOTC) (Toy)
Any kid who has seen the Star Wars: Episode II movie has envied the flying gunships that descended upon the scene toward the climax scene. Very large and loaded with weapons and a few gadgets, I bought this ship the day after I heard of its availability. For fun, this thing takes the cake. And it takes it with four firing missile weapons, two 'chin guns' and its primary armanent, two huge rocket launchers on the top near the wing joings. These don't have much range, but can get distance if you arch them. As for the rotating chin launchers they have quite the range in contrast, especially considering how small the connecting section of the projectile is. (I believe that these were lasers in the movie, but it never hurts to kill two birds with one stone.) There is also a positionable turret on the back, two bubble-like double turrets on the wingtips that click when rotated, and twelve bomb-like missiles that attack onto the undersides of the wings and the inside of the walls. This toy is also incredible for its other features, too. There are two grappling hooks on the back either to tow vehicles or for figures to latch onto. (Some have said that they don't store well, but this isn't true: wind the string around the hook, then press it into the indentation on the outside of the hook.) There are also storage compartments under the wings, useful for transporting weapons and lightsabers as well as figures. The cockpit snugly fits two figures to pilot. Inside the open cabin the floor has surprisingly strong pegs that fit holes in the figures' feet - I can turn the entire ship UPSIDE-DOWN and not have a single one fall. The floorpiece can also be detached via a tab on the underside for quick figure deployment - or an unfortunate accident great for those elaborate games. One of the best features is the doors: by pressing a button on top the two side walls open like doors, slowly (but not too slowly) and smoothly. You can't help but imagine a sci-fi hydraulic sound. There is also a convenient and well-placed handle on top. To complete the figure you can enhance it by add-ons that come with figures. The Clone Trooper Pilot comes with a freestanding firing spherical turret, but with a simple folding of the stand you can attach it onto pegs near the front of the inside (on the divider pillar just behind the cockpit), recreating those turrets on the movie figure. Also a great feature is putting a Clone Trooper speeder bike, and storing it in the back of the craft. Once you have purchased these your Republic Gunship is a complete and perfect war machine. As for educational value this is more for entertainment value, but it could help instruct about troop carriers in terrestrial wars. This ship is big, two feet length and wingspan, and I don't think it likely to break anytime soon. This is built to last. All in all, a great toy, with a few loose components but still a must-have.

This is a big item. It's heavy too. But it's an item with a lot of neat features. The ship comes in many parts that are easy to assemble. There are a few stickers that you have to apply, and some are very small. I advise an adult do this, and a pair of tweezers helps! THE PROS: The gunship holds two pilots (not included). I put one of my red clone troopers in the front seat - it's a tight squeeze, but he got in (I'm hoping the soon-to-be released pilots fit easier!). The canopy snaps firmly shut and will not come undone during play. The cargo hold can carry several figures that stay in place with the aid of pegs on the ship's floor. I currently have Yoda and four troopers occupying the cargo area. There are pegs for more, but it would resemble a Tokyo subway during rush hour if I filled them all! There is a button on top that, when pressed, open the two side doors revealing a cargo hold for a clone bike-speeder (not included!). The doors open slowly - a very cool feature! There are several guns on the ship, four with launching projectiles. The two front guns rotate and can be fired in any position. There are two rotating turrets on the wings, but they don't fire anything. They look cool, tho. CONS: The cargo area floor can be released by pulling a lever, so that the ship can quickly land and disperse the troopers on the ground. It's a neat idea, but flawed in practice. The figures have to be contained within the floor area or they will get hung up on the ship as it tries to take off. There are two grappling hooks connected by strings at the ship's tail. The problem with them is that they don't retract or store easily. The answer to that may lie in the two storage bins located under each wing. They open from underneath, however, so any contents will spill out when they are opened. Still, it's nice to have extra cargo space. There is a gun in the tail, but it's simply a plastic stick stuck in a hole. It falls out frequently. Finally, the ship has a handle located between the wings. The handle is too small for an adult hand. (Should adults be playing with this toy? Why not?!). The ship may be too heavy for a child to hold with one arm. Overall, it's a great toy that has extensive playability. It should keep a child occupied for hours.

This ship is one of the best ships ever. The opening cockpit which seats two clone pliots is really detailed once you put the stickers on. The republic gunship also has four missiles; the two in front shoot really far; the two on the top of the ship only shoot up to about two feet in front of the ship because of their length, but otherwise it's okay. On each of the wings, there is one rotating ball that makes laser sounds when you turn it; and, under the wings, there is a storage copartment that can hold equipment for the ship. In the body of the ship, there is a platform in which you can put up to six action figures, and-- get this-- you can press a lever and drop off the platform. There is a storage compartment for the deluxe clone trooper with speeder bike. Overall, this ship will please any star wars lover.

I had the Millenium Falcon when I was young, but the Republic Gunship is far superior. With this massive toy full of extras, you will feel the bristling strength of the Republic's forces. The ship's firepower consists of two chin guns, eight wing bombs, four door bombs, one rear gun and two prominent rocket launchers above the wings. The detailing is incredible. Remember in "Attack of the Clones" when the gunship rose into the sky, and you could see the rockets rotating in the bays as they loaded? Well, this toy shows the internal rockets on the surface of the launchers. The paint job is also great: it is scuffed and worn and reveals scorch markings, as if the ship has been through battle. Even the Republic insignias behind the cockpit are partially worn away. Other features include two rear doors that slowly open at a button's push, the ability to store a speeder bike in the back, a cockpit that holds two pilots, and a deployable troop platform that is better in theory than in practice. I removed it to place my troops, but had difficulty in reinserting the troop-laden platform back into the ship. The arms, guns and lightsabers of the figures got in the way. The instructions say the rotating spheres on the wings will project laser sounds when you turn them....I give this toy an educational value of two for its similarity to helicopters used to deploy troops in real-world wars. It might educate children regarding those late 20th-century war machines. The ship has the option of attaching two gun turrets in front of the troop platform. ... In summary, this playset, ... is faithful to the movie version in most respects. It is to scale with the movie characters; Hasbro didn't reduce the relative size of the gunship.

WOW!! The first thing that hits you when you open the box is the size of this thing. A more accurate description would be that of a playset-albeit a very detailed, accurate, and cool one. The most thoughtful touch is the opening side walls. They swing out and back slowly-like the door of a CD player, with the touch of a very well disquised piece of surface detail. Underwing storage compartments and super accurate rotating laser blisters are also impressive. A variety of 12 rockets are provided, and forward and rear gun turrets both swivel, with the forward ones actually doubling as launchable missiles. A grappling hook is located under the rear laser cannon. There are a couple of downsides though. The grip bar is a bit small for the average adult hand. You have to carefully insert your four fingers under the bar and gently wrap them around in order to get a secure hold, and the deployable floor panel is a little to easy to dislodge-which makes it somewhat of a chore to position action figures on it. However, this a collectible well worth getting!

The GUNSHIP ROCKS!! -- Ecpesially with the optional clone trooper pilots and also the delux trooper with speederbike -- all of these figures and accessories added to this gunship make this the best SW ship in many years. The Price is not bad and children will get many hours of play value out of this toy!I have been collecting SW for many years and this is just like they used to make them -- GREAT TOY!!

This is a GREAT toy. It's quite large, well worth the money. It's also built very well and has nice detailing. The previous Slave I and Jedi Starfighter vehicles were great, but the Republic Gunship is GREAT. In my opinion, the best Star Wars vehicle since the B-Wing fighter in 1983.Perhaps the best feature of this toy is the automatic doors. Press a button, and the spring-loaded side doors slowly and dramatically open, just like in the movie. The interior is very spacious. Two figures can fit in the cockpit, and several more can fit in the belly. There is also a drop-out floor panel in the bottom, complete with foot-peg-holes. You can stick a few figures on it, land the gunship, press a button, then take off and the platform and figures remain on the ground. Or I guess you could just drop the platform while you're flying and drop the figures to their deaths. There are also rotating turrets on the nose that shoot missiles, and two NICELY detailed ball turrets on the wings that also rotate. Missing from the movie version are the turrets on the sides, just ahead of the doors. There is a new action figure of a clone trooper with smaller versions of the ball turrets that can be clipped to the side of the gunship, so if you buy a couple of these clone troopers you can complete the gunship. The only difference is, in the movie the clone troopers fit INSIDE the turrets, but with the toy you'll have to be satisfied with the troopers manning the turrets like machine guns since they're smaller. Additionally, there are two large cannons above the wings with large missiles inside them, spring-loaded and launchable. These would be cooler if the springs were more tightly wound and shot the missiles harder, but with child safety being an issue I suppose we're lucky that they even shoot. There is also a movable tail gun. My only complaint is with the grappling hooks. There are two, and they are attached to the back of the ship with long strings. Unfortunately there is no retracting/winding mechanism to wind up the string. So you have to settle with wrapping the loooonng strings around a little peg, and the string ends up falling off and it becomes a nuisance. This would be an even greater toy if the strings wound up. On a final note, the decals are mostly subtle accents to the body, basic monotone polygons that add a little detail. Except for the cockpit control decals, you may not even want to bother putting them on. I give this toy the highest recommendation I can possibly give, not just among Star Wars toys but among all toys that are currently out in the market. There could be a few minor improvements to this toy, but it's already the best thing out there so such improvements would just be icing on the cake.

The gunship is a great toy, it has everything from The Attack On Geonosis, all the stuff is like the real ones in Attack Of The Clones. A downfall to this great toy? The PRICE!! It's a great toy and all but it is a little to expensive, but all in all I highly recomend this toy to any Star Wars fan.

'Twas on Christmas morning that my brother opened this Star Wars figure vehicle, and the next day I went out early to get one for myself. My group of friends likes playing elaborate games with the Star Wars Figures, and as an accessory for your action figures, this vehicle TAKES THE CAKE.The unit is easy to assemble (although a younger child may need adult help) and when it is finished it blows you away. It is detail (and feature)-riddled, and in comparison with other vehicles (Slave I, Jedi Starfighter) it is very large, even moreso than its more-or-less predecessor the AT-AT. The cockpit in the fore of the craft fits two of the Clone Troopers, and though it is a bit of a tight squeeze they are firmly secured. The rear of the unit is open, basically a deck with a small section at the front and a large open space from which the troopers can 'shoot.' There are small pegs in the floor on which you can secure the figures' feet with surprising hold. On the top of the unit is a carrying handle, and a button which when pressed releases the two side walls of the lower craft, moving them out and back. It moves slowly like an automatic mechanism on a real carrier, and I liked this feature a lot. A trigger on the bottom-back of the craft allows you to release a large rectangular section of the floor, lowering the craft to ground level then detaching the plate, simulating troop deployment. Accessories and arms can get in the way, but it is neat to use practically. As for weapons this thing is loaded. On the top are two massive missile launchers shooting massive missiles. Unfortunately these don't go far due to bulk, but to make up for them the front has two swiveling laser cannons, which interestingly also fire like a missile. These are a great deal more powerful, especially considering the shape. Also are eight manually-dropped bombs on the underside of the wings, and and four inside the doors, deployable when the doors are opened, and a pivoting turret on the back that can fall off if disturbed. This thing is also a great purchase because of its add-on features. The Clone Trooper figure has a variation which comes with a ground turret, a ball with a stand that launches a green missile (one of my favourite weapons from the movie). By folding the stand (easy to figure out) you can attack it to the front-inside of the craft using a peg system, recreating the very-cool sphere turrets from the movie. (The figure doesn't actually go in, but it is great nonetheless.) Also available is the Clone Trooper variation with a speeder vehicle - in the back-inside there is a place where you can store the speeder and trooper for launch! I really loved this feature, which truly shows the innovativeness of modern toys. What didn't I like? The grappling hooks. The ship comes with two VERY long strings with hooks on the ends, and they serve no real purpose and are often a nuisance. Despite your personal opinion, I would actually suggest leaving them off of the vehicle. All in all, one of the greatest vehicles for the Star Wars figures! I really loved it and if you have a few troopers on hand don't hesitate to buy the Republic Gunship! |
