Fans Such as myself have waited 25 years for this lightsaber toy,and it's worth the wait!the styling and detail of this lightsaber toy is incredible, and like the electronic sabers that have been made by Kenner/Hasbro since 1996,this toy lives up to consisently wonderful play value.I would definately recommend the Anakin Skywalker Lightsaber to anyone, kids, adults, and collectors alike!

This review is from: Star Wars Attack of the Clones Anakin Skywalker Lightsaber (Toy)
I think this toy is great, but first I want to start off by setting straight a few misconceptions. First of all, this is not the floppy, non-electronic, 9 dollar generic lightsaber sold elsewhere on this site, so dont believe anything saying that it isnt durable or it doesnt light up/makes sounds, etc. Secondly, this is the actual color of anakins lightsaber. some people think that it is green, but the green one was given to him in an emergency since his own lightsaber had been destroyed. And finally, the switch on button IS located on the black and silver protrusion on the side of the lightsaber in the movie. Okay, now that that is taken care of, the review. I bought this toy with low expectations, figuring it would be like the Phantom menace sabers. I was pleasantly suprised to find that this is much much better. When turned on, there is an activation sound and the blade flashes then there is a constant glow and hum. When turned off, the blade flashes and there is a deactivation sound. One of the things i like about it is that there are battle-crash sound effects when you hit something with it. If anyone has one of the Skywalker or vader sabers from '95, this is the exact same sound and light effects. The hilt is constructed of durable hard-plastic and the blade made of clear blue semi-hard/slightly-flexible plastic. the semi-hard plastic is a plus because it means that it is very hard to crack, but still doesnt bend unless a whole lot of weight is put on it. I play with mine a lot, and so far, it has withstood all of the abuse i have handed out to it. Unfortunately, it is not perfect. For one, it has a weak battery changing design, as it tends to unscrew fairly easily while playing, but it is easily held in place, and i have never had it even come close to unscrewing all the way off. Also, the activation button is in the wrong spot. It is supposed to be on the black and silver thing sticking out the side, but they put it on the grip. The position of the button makes it easy to accidentaly turn it off, which can get a little iritating. Also, the blade doesnt go all the way into the hilt, but come on. You tell me how to make it go all the way in and be fully electronic at the same time. And finally, the blade is a bit to short and can not be removed, but i am 5'10, so naturally im going to feel like its to short. None of these problems affect the playability of the item enough for less than 5 stars. If you happen to have one of the '95 sabers, you might not like this as much, but it is still worth buying. If you have any questions/comments about any of the lightsaber toys out there, you can find my e-mail in my profile.

... This lightsaber though is a ton more durable than any sword that I have ever seen. It provides hours of fun even if you don't have another person to battle with. Although, unlike some newer lightsabers, the blade does not go in all the way and doesn't have one of those nifty belt clips. So the good side to this is the blade is much more sturdier, longer, and wider than newer ones but it is somewhat difficult to transport. The controversial thing about this lightsaber is the sound. It drives parents crazy and believe me, you'll be hearing it's "hum" constantly in your head. My brothers absolutely love it and they think the start-up and turn-off sounds are to die for. But to bring out the blade you have to strike down until it unfolds and sometimes you can't time the sound with the activations. Then when you want to bring it back in, it's immpossible to time it with the sound because you have to manually push it down. Plus, the top of the blade doesn't always go in when you push it so you have to jab at the wall or something. All in all this toy brings many hours of fun to people and is worth buying.
