Frag on the Battlefront,

Anyone who's a Star Wars junkie will tell you how they've imagined fighting as Darth Vader or Skywalker or Boba Fett would be. Pretty darn great. Star Wars Battlefront 2 not only allows you to do all that - albeit in a pretty short amount of time - but it gives you what the first game didn't. Space dogfights. And can I just say, Boo Ya?
In brief, the game is a blast - though not something you'll be playing all the time. It's a game you have to savor and then let rest for awhile so you won't get tired of it. Although it is a great game, it's repetitive. Shoot shoot shoot, die die die, upgrade, upgrade, upgrade, and after awhile, well, you feel like popping a different disc in. But when you're enjoying yourself and are really getting into it, it's an amazing game. The graphics are much better, though in online play, the same lag erupts like a bad dream. There are far more weapons and vehicles, and best of all, it doesn't take 3 minutes to traverse the landscape anymore. As for the Jedi Heros coming into play, you can't pick say Darth and run around hacking off your enemies at will. During a point in the game, assuming youve accumulated enough points from killing people and being a hero, blah blah, you will get a prompt asking if you wish to play as the hero of that map. You pick yes, and you respawn as that hero. The only rule from here on now is, you gotta kill as many of the enemy as you can without getting hurt too much. Once you've taken too much damage, the hero will kneel out of the battle and you're back as one of the grunt Clone Troopers or whatever. This goes on until the battle is finished. This is a great game that gives for lots of enjoyment until you get sick of fragging AI. Then you might want to hop online and frag. Which is fun...unless you tend to die alot. An upgrade from the first one in many ways. A good buy.

This game rocks. It's a big improvement over SWBF. There are more levels and yes, you get to fight as a Jedi. Pick among many including Luke, Yoda, Anikan, Darth Vader, and many more. Heres the lowdown:
Graphics: 5/5 These are excellent graphic for the PSP. The best I've ever seen so far. The picture is crystal clear and has a very high resolution. The movement of all the characters are very well done. Sound: 4/5 The sound is good in this game and you get to hear all the ewoks, jawas, and the classic music, but the sound does skip here and there once in the while. Overall it's good. Controls: 4/5 The controls are a bit clunky and repetitve at times. There is no second analog stick so its hard to move, but you move with the X, O, square, and triangle buttons as the second analog. It's kind of hard to get used to. Fun: 3/5 Overall this game is really fun. You can fight as a Jedi like Vader, Luke, and Yoda. And yes, fight in space which is really fun. A bad thing is that it is like the first battlefront game. It gets repetitve really fast. This is a game that you can play here and there for like 5-10 min, but don't plan on playing this for long periods of time.

Limitations of PSP for First Person Shooters.,

I love the psp for what it is. A great mobile gaming platform! But first person shooters just have limitations so far on this platform. Starwars Battlefront 2 is another example of that. I am not knocking the game but just think someone who purchases a FPS for the psp should not expect PS2 or x-box experience. The games controls feel clunky and laborous. I am not ripping the one analog control stick. There have been other very succesful titles on past platforms that have been easy to play that used only one analog stick. Its just that designers need to work with what they have instead of trying to have the same functionality as with x-box or ps2. Overall it is not a bad game its just doesnt have it "right"

this is an awesome game, and there are a lot of pros and cons:
Pros: -Gameplay is awesome, and you dont want to put it down -Graphics are so good that they look like a console game -Galactic conquest is as fun as ever. It's not too hard, but its not a breeze either. You can chose 4 armies: The droids, the old republic, the rebels, and the new republic. All armies have their pros and cons (my favorites are the droids) but it is fun no matter who you chose. Cons: -I was extremely dissipointed in the challenges mode. It's simply not fun. It is so simple that I felt like i was playing a gameboy color game. -playable heroes are extremely overrated. All non jedi are just plain horrible, and although jedi aren't that bad, after i messed around with them a little bit, i decided that i would much rather be a basic droid Overview: This game is worth buying for sure(even if only for galactic conquest). I own nine games for psp, and this is my second favorite (behind madden 2006). Star Wars Battlefront is a great game and i strongly reccomend buying it.

This is a game you can just play forever. The AI maybe stupid, but it's a psp game. You can also play as a jedi or sith, which is a nice edition. Buy it!!!

Star Wars Battlefront II is the best game ever on the PS2. When transferring this immense game to handheld, some sacrifices had to be made (such as only 13 maps and no story mode). But hey, it's still battlefront 2 and it plays like battlefront 2. The controls are not the best thing ever, due to no L2, R2, R3, L3, and Right analog stick, but they somehow managed to still get it to work. Ex: since droideka doesn't jump, instead of using a seperate button to transform into ball mode, you use the jump button. Many compromises like this have been made, and it results in a must-have for any PSP owner. The graphics are nearly that of the ps2, which is amazing for such a small device such as the psp. Breakdown:
GRAPHICS:9/10 The graphics are top-notch for a handheld game. Gameplay: 10/10 It's battlefront 2. Gameplay is awesome no matter what Controls:7/10 The somewhat faulty conrols are due to the fact that psp doesn't have enough buttons, but the controls are much better than i expected them to be. Presentation:9/10 Main menu looks very similar to that on the console version, exept it has gameplay movies on the two sides, not the actual movies likein console. Other than that it looks just like the console version:-) Overall:9/10 Amazing that you can transfer a game the magnitude of Battlefront II and not lose much out of it. My only complaint would be lack of infastructure online multiplayer. If you're lookng for an online shooter, then get SOCOM: Fireteam bravo. This game is a must for any star wars fan or psp owner. no doubt about that.

Frustrating but fun (when it works),

Let me preface this by saying that I'm a freak for the original BattleFront and plan on buying the PS2 version of this one as well as the PSP version I own. That being said...
As noted in other reviews, the controls take a loooooong time to master; gamers used to the original game on PS2 will be most comfortable with the default layout, but it still takes a while to get used to the buttons being the movement control. The graphics are pretty good, considering this is a portable unit, and the music is fantastic (gotta love the old John Williams, eh?). Many of the maps will be familiar from the first game, although not all areas are present in all maps, so be prepared to not have your favorite sniper nest to hide away in. I haven't had the chance yet to link up a networked game, but I'm still having fun acing Gungans and Ewoks as the Imperial Enforcer. You'll also have a blast taking over the Jedi characters, using the Force to knock enemies over or choke them silly before taking the 'saber to 'em. The biggest complaint I have has been mentioned in other reviews: the game freezes between missions and especially gets annoying when you try to save games. Since characters and maps are unlocked as you progress through missions, it becomes a hair-pulling experience when you finally beat a mission you've been working on for four hours only to have the PSP freeze up so bad you have to remove the battery. Sony: If you read this review, I'm loving the game but hating the glitches. Fix the bugs and offer the first-round buyers an even-up exchange for the patched version through a UMD swap! For everyone out there, I recommend picking the game up for a console or PC, but hold off on the PSP version for a while until these bugs get fixed.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 is a good little game for the PSP! While it doesn't have a real campaign and limited multiplayer, its Galactic Conquest mode is one of the most fun and addicting things I've ever played! Plus in Battlefront 2, you can play as Heroes and run around as Darth Vader or Luke Skywalker and slice people up! The inclusion of Space Battles is pretty awesome too but it lacks the fun the console versions had (an example would be flying over to the enemy ship and blowing it up from the inside instead of flying all over the place to blow things up).
While it doesn't have everything the consoles did, its still a fun addition to the PSP library! But if you want an even further in-depth Battlefront experience, check out Renegade Squadron.

I've played this game for a while now and I really enjoy it. The space battles really are the best of the whole game. Depending on the ship choice you make, you can either go after the enemy fighters or you can destroy the enemy capital ships.
The ground battles are fun as well and you get a wide variety of terrain to fight over, from cities to swamps and everything in between. You have a number of different weapon choices as well, based on the class of fighter you choose. Additionally, there are bonuses that can be applied to space battles or ground battles. As for the negatives about this game, I would say that after a while it gets old. You get to play different sides but you're mostly fighting over the same planets, with the exception of a few. Everything considered, I still consider this a great game and well worth the money.

I own the PS2 version and I bought this so that I could play SWB2 on the go. I was wrong. The controls sucked; I could never remember the buttons. (Maybe there was a better control scheme option available, but I always use default on EVERYTHING.) There was little over half of the maps that the PS2 version had. I understand that a UMD can only hold so much, but seriously! The SPECIAL MISSIONS exclusively for PSP: easier than pie! I could almost do it blindfolded! These could be taken out and add in some more maps maybe. Space was even more of a hassle; with less buttons than the PS2 controller I could not remember the difference between landing and primary cannons! I simply did not like this game. One more thing: Good luck getting all the medals!
I recommend getting SWB: Renegade Squadron instead. The multiplayer option is awesome! |
