Star Wars Battlefront - especially due to the notorious lack of a broad variety of games for the Mac - is a great game. Of course, you need a 128 MB Ram Video Card to enjoy all the little bits and pieces, but in general it is the kind of easy play you would like to have after work...

1.0 out of 5 stars Star Wars Battlefront Not Officially Supported on Intel Macs, December 26, 2008
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Star Wars Battlefront (DVD-ROM)
After struggling to install this Mac game, I contacted the folks and Aspyr and they very promptly, very politely let me know that this game is not offically supported on new Mac machines. I'll paste the instructions for a potential work around below - and when I get back from my holiday abroad I'll test it to see if it works and then update this review accordingly.

One note: I did not see the specified folder in my Library/Application Support.

From Aspyr Support:
"Even though this game is not officially supported on the new Macbook and Macbook Pro, this is a common error which can be fixed.

For this specific issue, try the patch located here:
[...]

Before attempting to install this patch, you will need to completely uninstall and reinstall Battlefront.
To remove Star Wars Battlefront, drag the Star Wars Battlefront folder on your computer's hard disk to the trash. Then locate the folder named "StarWarsBattlefront" located in Home/Library/Application Support and drag it to the trash. Be sure to also remove the receipt file from the old attempt to install the patch located in /Library/Receipts/BattlefrontRevA.pkg.

Once you have the game reinstalled and the receipt file thrown out. Apply the above patch."

UPDATE:
After following instructions provided by Aspyr, I was able to install and play Star Wars Battlefront on my Intel MacBook Pro. The initial launch of the application locked up the machine - but after powering down and restarting it the game and all other applications worked perfectly.

Star Wars Battlefront - especially due to the notorious lack of a broad variety of games for the Mac - is a great game. Of course, you need a 128 MB Ram Video Card to enjoy all the little bits and pieces, but in general it is the kind of easy play you would like to have after work...

...but dare you to play the game on holidays - like I did. I got it in the morning - and got instantly addicted to it. I played it on "medium" difficulty. Not eight hours later, I was done with both Solo-Campaigns and the good side "galactic conquer". On this speed I will have completed the game within another 2-3 hours.
Then I will be forced of either playing it again (difficulty: hard) or do instant action games...

So, Star Wars Battlefront is a must for the Mac (if you have the "recommended hardware" to fully enjoy it). BUT it is neither a real challenge for the experienced gamer nor a long-lasting investment. Five for being a Star Wars with great graphics and the great shooter - but four in total.

And by the way, in case you have purchased the game and found yourself with an invalid registration code on the back: don't panic. On the Aspyr Homepage (Battlefront, Support) you will find an auto-completion tool.

Love it. You can be 4 diffrent classes: Soldrier, Heavy gunner, Sniper, Piolit, or Special. Be on the Republic, Sepritist, Rebels, or Empire! And have help from four diffrent heros, Republic: Mace Windu, Sepritist: Count Dooku, Empire: Darth Vader, and Rebels: Luke Skywalker. Fight on 9 diffrent planets: Tattione, Bespin, Endor, Naboo, Kamino, Kashyyk, Hoth, Yavin, Geonosis, and Rhen Var. Also do diffrent maps for each of the Planets. Well hope you like Star Wars BattleFront and if you dont like this Lucas Arts came out with a sequel to the first Star Wars BattleFront. May the Force be with you... Always!

3.0 out of 5 stars Review for the Alaskan Apple Users Group, August 7, 2005

Hoth. Naboo. Geonosis. If you recognize those names, you're familiar with some of the biggest Star Wars battles. With Aspyr's release of Star Wars: Battlefront you can now join in these and other epic campaigns spanning five of the six Star Wars films.

Battlefront let's you play on either side of all the major land battle in Lucas' famous movies as well as a few extra battles that fill in the gaps. It's upcoming sequel ([...]), which may or may not come to the Mac, will include content from the final film. This game does the best job yet of tying the whole series together which is nice since the DVD set containing all three movies won't be out for a while.

Unfortunately it spans the story with no real narration. Despite mood-setting clips from the movies and mission briefs in the voices of film characters, there is no real plot explanation as you play. So unless you're a Star Wars fan the game plays as a bunch of loosely related skirmishes with no real continuity.

If you are a fan though, the sound effects, units, and settings straight from the films will make every battle an exciting exploration of the saga's most memorable elements. The game has a grand scope, but it trades that content for less satisfying gameplay than some other Star Wars games.

In addition to lacking a rich plot, which is a hallmark of Star Wars, there is no character development. Each battle is isolated and is a simple game of territories where you must help your side gain and maintain control of several landmarks while fending off the enemy. Hold those key points long enough, while inflicting more damage on your foes than they do on you, and you will win.

While this is a thoroughly enjoyable multiplayer game model, it doesn't work well as a single player game. The "galactic conquest" mode compensates a little by adding a strategic element to the selection of your battles, but the game still plays like an online game against bots all the time.

So you would think the online play was better. Generally that is true. The opponents are more challenging and everything else plays exactly the same. Unfortunately, while Mac-to-Mac online play is supported via GameRanger, PC/Mac play is only available in direct IP or local LAN games. This severely limits the potential of this network-centric game.

Ultimately Battlefront could be an addictive online game, but the Mac-only online play cripples that potential and leaves the game with little replay value. Still, it's really fun to explore the universe, weapons, and vehicles of Star Wars.

If you're a Star Wars fan who has been waiting for a new Mac release, go get this one right away. If you're just looking for a fun game to invest in, keep shopping.

If you have a new Mac, don't bother wasting your time, because it won't run on OS X Leopard. And of course, there's no patch, so seriously, do not waste your time or money

This game is not as good as battlefront 2 but it's still a great game. you can play as whoever you want. the only problem is that the computers are stupid, they stand around doing nothing unless you tell them to follow you.

I bought this for my sons and was disappointed that it would not work on our new Mac. After reading others' reviews, my husband contacted Aspyr and received directions on how to make it work with a patch. He had to patch it into the software that had already been downloaded under applications, and then restart the computer. It is now working beautifully and both of my sons give it 5 stars.

Ok, first off, any comments that you ,the reader, have read that say Battlefront runs poorly on an iMac Leopard are wrong, it runs perfectly well. Elaborate maps such as Endor on multiplayer run poorly because of the attention to detail, and that is the only problem that I have encountered. However, and these points are important, when you are asked by the computer for the game's CD-Key type it in lower-case or it won't work. Also, if the game does not open automatically, or you are not satisfied completely, go to Apple.com and download the patch, it makes the frame-rate flawless on all the maps except, as I said, Endor.

Okay...
You will find 4 letters missing from your CD-Key.
Go to https://www.aspyr.com/page.php/battlefront_keys/ and type in the partial code you already have.

Once you press enter, your full CD-Key will appear and it is valid information to apply in the box where your CD-Key is requested.
