I've seen a lot of reviews that have really put this game down. I just don't get it. Bounty Hunter is definitely the best game that I've gotten for my GCN.

First off, I have to say that the in-game movies are simply, unarguably the best in any game ever released. Both the voice acting and on-screen graphics are unmatched by anything. The in-game graphics are not on the level of some game like Star Fox Adventures or Metroid Prime but I have to say that they are definitely above average, and do a good job of capturing the Star Wars universe. Each level has its own special feel. The best one is Coruscant, which you must see to believe. If you look up, you see towering skyscrapers lit up with holographic signs, with multiple levels of sky traffic.

Graphics: 8/10

The sound is certainly the best I have heard yet in a GCN title. Skywalker Sound did a great job with this title. All of the classic Star Wars sound effects, from lightsabers to blasters to hyperdrives, are perfectly done. The voice acting is even better, which you have to see for yourself.

Sound: 10/10

The gameplay is what a lot of people have complained about. I can't understand why. It is FUN. It gets repetitive occasionally, but let me tell you, toasting 50 guys with a flamethrower, shooting a bunch of toxic darts, leaping through the air with your jetpack while shooting twin blasters and then finally launching a guided missile does NOT get boring very quickly. The levels are long and between the length of the 18 levels and the many bonuses (including some very funny outtakes) this game should last you quite a while.

Gameplay: 9/10
Replay Value: 8.5/10

Overall, this game is certainly a title any Star Wars fan or anybody seeking excellent action/adventure games should get. If the other reviews have discouraged you, then rent it first. But certainly don't let Bounty Hunter, one of the best GCN titles to date, pass you by.

OVERALL: 9.5/10

4.0 out of 5 stars Cool game., December 7, 2002
This review is from: Star Wars: Bounty Hunter (Video Game)
This game is good. I was skeptical about buying it because it has received relatively bad reviews, but I took a chance on it anyway. If you are thinking about buying this game, first answer these questions: Do you think Jango Fett is cool? Do you want to know some history and back story about Jango? Are you into Star Wars? If you answered "Yes" to these questions, then I completely recommend this game to you. I just don't see how anyone who is into Star Wars or Jango Fett cound NOT like this game. The graphics are impressive, the sound is of course wonderful (all Lucasarts games have great sound), and the cutscenes look fantastic. The Playstation 2 version supposedly has some frame rate issues, but I did not notice any problems on the GameCube version. Reviewers have knocked this game because of some collision detection issues and clipping, and I admit, these are apparent in the game, but THEY IN NO WAY SPOIL THE GAME. Sure the game is not perfect, but what game is. Taken for what its worth, Star Wars Bounty Hunter is cool. I bought this game because I read a lot of positive USER reviews. The USERS are the ones who make or break a game...they are the ones who buy it. I can tell you that I do not regret buying this game at all. And to think I almost didn't buy it because of lackluster game site reviews. Again, if you like Jango Fett, you will like this game, for you can do anything he does. The jetpack is great, and it is a blast to control. And here's a hint: there are codes to unlock all of the levels in the game readily available on many easy to find video game websites. So, you can play any level you want and just have fun. What's wrong with that? Isn't that what games are made for? When I pay fifty bucks for a game, I want to play it, experience it...not get stuck on level two and lose my temper, therefore not playing it very much. Just pick this one up Jango lovers.

This review is from: Star Wars: Bounty Hunter (Video Game)
Bounty Hunter is a game that follows Jango Fett, the father of the classic Boba Fett character and also the blueprint for the clone army in the Star Wars prequels. The game chronicles Jango's back story and how Dooku comes to recruit him, and is worth experiencing for Star Wars fans. But it's not always a fun ride.

The biggest problem I had was with the weapon selection and switching. Jango comes with all his trademark weapons from the film (flame thrower, rockets, grenades, darts, capture cord, etc), but only his standard twin pistols are effective in a firefight when you've got enemies swarming and shooting at you from all sides. With their average strength and accuracy, and Jango's limited amount of health, you'll be dying often as you make your way through the levels. Switching to other weapons requires going through an unintuitive pause screen (unless you want to be shot while doing so), and the rest of Jango's arsenal would've been much more useful if they could be mapped to the controller buttons and accessed on the fly.

The game also has an interesting bounty-hunting aspect where you can nab bounties that in turn unlock extras from the main menu. However, the process of identifying, marking, and capturing a bounty alive is more complicated than it should be, and you'll often be left vulnerable while trying to nab an enemy alive.

What Lucasarts does well with, like always, is the overall Star Wars polish. The in-game graphics aren't always amazing, but the cutscenes are nicely produced. Strong sound effects, John Williams music and voice-acting from the likes of Temura Morrison, Leeanna Walsman, Clancy Brown and Corey Burton really sell the Star Wars experience. And there's always the comic book panels, concept art, trading card images, and other extras to unlock.

In the end, Bounty Hunter is still a very playable game, and dedicated Star Wars fans will certainly find this a worthwhile purchase (especially now, as it should be relatively cheap). There's really nothing outstanding to recommend to non-fans though, and the coolness of playing as Jango is occasionally lost in the clumsy weapons and bounty system. For the galaxy's most-feared bounty hunter, our boy gets killed pretty easily.

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Star Wars: Bounty Hunter (Video Game)
Jango and Boba Fett are probaly the coolest Star Wars characters ever and finally geting to control a Fett was the best!!! All his weapons are pretty cool only the ID scanner was hard to use and the sniper rifle was useless. If you are a Star Wars fan you must get it if you aren't buy it anyways because you will have to rent it a couple of times to beat it. But just to sum it up how can you resist a guy with shiny armour, a jetpack and a flamethrower???

there aren't many words to describe this game except AWESOME!!!totally blows away the ps2 version. Graphics are smooth and bright and jango looks just like he did in epII. controls take a while to get used to but are easily mastered in about 20 min even for the most novice of gamers. the sound is incredible even with dolby surround.you really feel as if you are jango after a while.this game will be at the top of every gamers list this xmas, and if it isnt, there might be a bounty out for you!!!I also highly recommend METROID PRIME and SW-Rogue Leader as the first games for your gamecube collection. Happy Hunting!!!

This review is from: Star Wars: Bounty Hunter (Video Game)
Despite what others have said, I believe that this is one of the best Star Wars games ever created. First of all, who wouldn't want to have a jetpack and suit of armor covered in cool gadgets. I love the gameplay. It's pretty classic shoot-em-up, Star Wars style. The only downsides are the animation, while still excellent, is not on par with other games, such as Rouge Leader. Also, the levels are very long with no way to save in the midst of playing. Otherwise, I love this game.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth the Hunt, January 24, 2003
This review is from: Star Wars: Bounty Hunter (Video Game)
Become Jango Fett, the toughest, most efficient, ruthless, cunning - and sleekest looking - bounty hunter to ever stalk a quarry, in this exciting adventure game from the Jedi Knights at Lucas Arts. "Star Wars: Bounty Hunter" takes place between the first two Star Wars prequels and follows Jango as he is employed by Darth Tyranus to track down and eliminate a deranged renegade Jedi who has become leader of a mysterious cult called the Bando Gora. Sandwiched between action-packed blaster-fests and bounty hunting exploits, you will learn much about Jango's past, find out how he came into possession of the Slave I, and run into familiar and new characters alike, such as Jango's arch-nemesis Montross, and the eccentric Toydarian, Rozatta. The cinema scene graphics are astounding, some rivaling the grandeur of the actual Star Wars films. The story, which reveals how Jango was selected to be the template for the clone army seen in "Episode II - Attack of the Clones", is very engaging, inspiring the impetus to complete each level in order to progress the plot. Temuera Morrison, the actor who portrayed Jango in "Attack of the Clones", lends additional realism by providing the voice for the title character. The no-nonsense Jango never deviates from his hard-boiled, adamantine persona. For the soundtrack, George Lucas' little helpers at the Skywalker Ranch have culled some of the most adrenaline-pumping action cues from John Williams' orchestral arsenal.

The 18 stages (six chapters of three stages) thrust you through a variety of planets and environments within the Star Wars universe, each with its own unique quality. Coruscant and Tatooine look as if they have been fused directly from the films, and the moon of Bogden has a deliciously dark atmosphere. The gameplay and graphics bear much resemblance to earlier Lucas Arts Star Wars games, especially "Shadows of the Empire" (another great). Because the game was designed by the same people who brought you the films, you know it will have that signature Star Wars look and feel. To assist you on the hunt, several weapons and nifty devices are at your disposal - love that jetpack! Each stage offers just the right amount of corridor trekking and shoot-em-up laser battles to keep you enthralled. Although the game is challenging, all of the bosses are pushovers, and the final stage is one of the easiest. Unfortunately, much of challenge comes from undesirable play control and disorienting camera angles. The cinema scene graphics are, as Darth Vader would say, "most impressive", but the stage graphics are barely 64-bit caliber. The game also suffers from a lack of variety in game play - you are circumscribed to working Jango through run-of-the-mill, jump, climb and fight-laden, semi-maze stages. It would have been nice to play at least one stage in which you control the Slave I starship. The object of hunting for optional secondary bounties seems to be a prefabricated gimmick thrown in to compensate for gameplay shortcomings. Although the flaws seem many, it does little to scuttle the overall amusement derived from playing the game. If you like the Star Wars universe, this game will not disappoint.

"Star Wars: Bounty Hunter" also features a wealth of extras which are unlocked as you complete stages or collect secrets. These extras are: pages from the Dark Horse "Jango Fett" comic book; Wizards of the Coast Trading Cards; concept art; and several hilarious outtakes, like Jango struggling with his props, and Montross (voice of actor Clancy Brown) complaining because he was too old to play Anakin Skywalker in the films!

Perhaps I am a trifle biased because Jango Fett is my favorite character in the Star Wars universe, but I found "Star Wars: Bounty Hunter" to be even more entertaining than the first two prequels.

3.0 out of 5 stars Seems Cool at First, but Ultimately Disappoints, April 12, 2003
By
This review is from: Star Wars: Bounty Hunter (Video Game)
I bought this game when it first came out in December 02. I had read a lot about it and was really expecting it to be awesome. After all, I am a huge SW fan. I even liked the game a lot after I had gotten it and had played through the first couple levels. The problem is, as you progress further in the game, you realize "I'm not having any fun." A lot of the levels make it totally unclear where to go, so much so that you'll find yourself wasting 1/2 hour just wandering around through areas where you've already been and wondering how to move on. And the lack of camera control is fine in the early levels, but once you've gotten the jetpack and you have to do a lot of jumping around from platform to platform, it really gets annoying when you can't see where to go next because the camera won't move while you're hanging from a ledge. My final criticism is that the actual bounty hunting seems cool at first, but winds up just being an annoyance. When you get your first 5-10 bounties, you think it's a great new idea that makes the game interesting. But then you go on, and you'll be in a situation where you have 20 guys shooting at you, and you can't take the time to scan for bounties without getting killed, and you can't control Jango's targeting efficiently enough to only shoot the guys who aren't bounties. And you start thinking, "how is the bounty hunting really adding anything to the game?" And you start wanting to just ignore that aspect of the game entirely and just treat it like a normal FPS. But then, if the central theme of the game (i.e. bounty hunting) seems pointless, that's a sign of a big flaw in the game design.

Now I'll talk about things I liked...
The FMVs, voice acting, sound effects, music, graphics

But in the end, this game just gets annoying because of poor level design, clumsy controls, and restrictive camera control.

My advice: You should rent this game and play it until you get past the level with the insane number of conveyors on it. If you pass that level and you're still not majorly annoyed with the game, go ahead and buy it.
