5.0 out of 5 stars Great game for fathers and their sons
This is a great game from Lucas Arts! I quite don't understand the very negative ratings from other customers. I've played it with my son (11 years old) and we like the story. the graphics. the 3D environment, the missions and the Star Wars feeling. If you have an Xbox controller attached on your PC it makes also more fun. Overall we gave this game 5 stars and we hope...

1.0 out of 5 stars Extremely Disappointed - Awful Control
I thought this game looked fun, from some online research, and went out and bought it this afternoon. I don't really like multiplayer-focused games, but this looked to have enough single-player content to me fun. I just installed it, to find out it is not a typical 3rd-person perspective game. The camera angle is 3rd-person, but the path is fixed like a side-scroller...

I thought this game looked fun, from some online research, and went out and bought it this afternoon. I don't really like multiplayer-focused games, but this looked to have enough single-player content to me fun. I just installed it, to find out it is not a typical 3rd-person perspective game. The camera angle is 3rd-person, but the path is fixed like a side-scroller. So, you cannot change the camera perspective or your character's direction with the mouse. I suppose this surprise is my own fault for not doing more thorough research, but it was pretty disappointing nonetheless. However, what cannot be blamed on myself is the god-awful control. Somehow, using WASD and space, you are supposed to make complex jumps from a fixed camera perspective. This is near impossible. Additionally, the mouse control on the menu system is like the cursor has a spring between it and your mouse movement, making the mere menu navigation maddening. I've never regretted a game purchase so much, so quickly. I will try to return it, but I doubt Best Buy will let me. Oh well, at least it was cheaper than usual (which I suppose should have been a tip-off).

4.0 out of 5 stars Very fun, despite negative reviews..., October 18, 2009
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars

[This review covers the PC version of the game.]

I almost waited to buy this game based on all the negative reviews I've read. I'm glad I didn't wait...it's a blast! What people say is partly true: the camera is funky at times, leading to many falls, but since there is very little penalty for falling, I don't really care too much. Another complaint is that it seems aimed more towards kids. I'm not sure how to take that...I'm 44, and I'm having a great time. It's true that this game does not offer the depth of Jedi Knight or Republic Commando, but it's not supposed to! It's a platforming, 3rd-person shoot-em-up, slice-em-up, and even though it's target audience may skew young, I find that there is plenty to keep me entertained. Another comment I've seen is that it's difficult to aim...also true, but not nearly as bad as I was led to expect.

The reward and purchase system adds great replayability value, and most importantly, the game plays like a long episode of The Clone Wars...it's very immersive. The voice acting is great, the sound and music is excellent, and the graphics are very good, though some textures do look a bit lower-resolution than I'm used to in PC games. I'm playing it with a 360 controller because it's just more fun that way, but a keyboard/mouse configuration is also offered.

If you like the Clone Wars series, I think you have a good chance of enjoying this game if you go in knowing what type of game it is and knowing that it does have a few minor issues.

We were so excited to play this together (my 9 year old son and I) the intro made it look so fun, but the reality was far different. Maybe it's my graphics card (NVidia GeForce 8600) but this game runs like one of those old fashioned flip book animations. It's all jerky and slow. My son and I got so frustrated with it we put it away and haven't tried it again.

Being a parent whose kids love Star Wars, this game seems to be a good choice. However, you have to sign up for a Windows Live account in order to save your progress in the game. I spent 2 days trying to do this, only to find out that because I entered my son's name and birth date in the registration screen, I had to go to the Windows Live homepage and give parental permission for him to do the game. That was a real pain in the a$# and I don't like the idea of the game connecting to Windows servers during the game. That's the reason I'm only giving this game 3 stars. My kids however, both elementary students, think the game is 5 stars. If you want a game for an older audience, I would recommend the Force Unleashed Sith Edition. It's good for me and I remember watching the first Star Wars episode back in 1977 when I was in elementary school. After playing that game, the Force Unleashed, the Clone Wars seems very simple and boring.

Does anyone else have an issue with saving progress made in the game after completing a mission? I'm supposed to see a "continue" button on the menu screen, but at re-start all I see is "new campaign" even though we have completed about 5 missions.
The solution to the problem I posted above is to log in to Windows Live. If you don't, it forces you to restart everytime you quit. This means of course that if you have the game on a laptop for the kids to play, and decide to visit your relatives, or go somewhere there's no Internet access then all game progress is lost.
My biggest complaint, though, is that after my son completed the entire mission, the same game refuses to work now on the very same machine. I get an error: "Microsoft Windows has encountered a problem with Republic Heroes.exe". I have uninstalled and reinstalled the game 3 times and it refuses to run. The game was fun whilst it lasted.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing and Frustrating, October 18, 2009
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Star Wars the Clone Wars: Republic Heroes (DVD-ROM)
Graphics - Decent at best

Sound - Just...plain...awful: The "cutscenes" had an announcer that sounded like it was a baseball game.

Gameplay - Impossible and annoying, you run around jumping only to fall continuously due to bad control mechanics. It is way too easy to fall off, and way too easy to misjudge a jump. Granted you don't die, but it is still tedious to wait for the respawn to jump once more over a gap and miss it at some silly proportion.

The basic 'Lightsaber Hack and Slash" lost its appeal as the game itself is just tedious and uninteresting. The only part that was 'decent' was playing as the clones, the story jumps from one side to another back and fourth. One level actually is dedicated to a tedious 'puzzle' where you jump from ice to ice to use (2) TOTAL droids to destroy two pieces of ice blocking your vehicles.

2.0 out of 5 stars Frustrating, January 8, 2012
= Fun:2.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Star Wars the Clone Wars: Republic Heroes (DVD-ROM)
I had seen the reviews weren't that good for this game, but I love Star Wars and the Clone Wars so I got it anyway for $9.99 and I think I regret it. The controls are incredibly frustrating and my character is constantly jumping the wrong direction, falling off a cliff, or just not responding to the direction I'm trying to move. Yoda gives advice in the game but he never shuts up and can't be turned off. I want to like this game, but I just can't. I would avoid this one unless you must have everything Star Wars.

I got a great price on this game thanks to Amazon. I am actually now working at an Amazon center and it is really neat to see how Amazon works. What a great place to work. This game is a lot of fun with a xbox controller on your computer. In fact some of the achievements require the controller to unlock them. Very glad I picked this game up.
