Anchored by the characters and events of the "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" animated series, Star Wars The Clone Wars: Republic Heroes reveals a new and exciting chapter of the Star Wars saga. Containing the series' unique graphical style, a story conceived by the writers of the television series, multiple playable characters across two classes and co-op gameplay it is a must-have title sure to enthrall both new and more seasoned fans alike.
Star Wars The Clone Wars: Republic Heroes lets Star Wars fans young and old live out the sweeping galactic adventures of the Clone Wars. For the first time ever, players can fight as their favorite Jedi and clone troopers from the preeminent animated television series – from familiar faces like Anakin Skywalker to new heroes like Clone Captain Rex. A brand-new storyline, which bridges the gap between season one and two, takes the player on a multifaceted adventure to stop a mysterious techno assassin’s destructive plot. Built around two-player cooperative action, the accessible controls and family-friendly gameplay bring Star Wars fans across generations together like never before to fight the evil Separatists and restore peace to the galaxy. Gameplay Gameplay in Star Wars the Clone Wars: Republic Heroes is mission-based. Players can choose to approach the action as either a Jedi or a clone class character. Playing as a Jedi you have access to eight playable characters, and as a clone you play as one of a group of clones. The game was developed with co-op play in mind, which means players can more or less count on never fighting alone, which is a good thing considering the hordes of battle droids and other enemies you will face. The game also features a puzzle-solving gameplay component, as well as an upgrade system based on the collection of "Force Orbs" scattered throughout the game environment. Weapons and Combat Keeping with the games' user friendly approach, the control scheme has been designed with Jedi character's lightsaber and force powers, as well as clone characters firing trigger accessible from a single input source. Because of the difference in the character classes weapons, combat differs depending on the class chosen. Due to their reliance on the their lightsabers, Jedi will mostly engage enemies at close range, although force power attacks can allow for more distance from targets. In addition, utilizing Jedi powers at point blank range players are able to engage in "droidjacking," which allows a Jedi to take control of a droid's weapons system and other abilities. On the other hand, clone character combat relies more on firepower, utilizing a variety of blaster type weapons and thermal grenades, although clones are able to acquire heavier weapons, such as miniguns and rocket launchers as the game progresses. Because of the projectile nature of these weapons clone character combat can be fought as a variety of distances. Key Game Features

Got this for the PS2 because its currently the only major console I own right now. For a PS2 Star Wars game, its actually quite fun. The gameplay tends to be a little clunky at first, since there are far too many moves you can make with far too few of the controls. As a result, you make quite a few unintended moves. However, once you get a knack for how they work, and you get a semblance of control, the fun factor increases.
The game is based on the current Clone Wars cartoon, and falls in between seasons I and II. I'm about halfway thru it, and the story is typical Star Wars fare. The Separatists have developed a new superweapon, and the Jedi have to destroy it. However, the story enables you to play as a variety of characters. From the obligatory mainstays of Anakin and Obi-wan, to fan favorites like Mace Windu and Aayla Secura, and even varies it a little by letting you take control of some clone troopers. Going a step further, there are times when your character will take control of vehicles, such as the STAP and the one-man walkers. But, going back to the clunky control scheme, these areas are only mildly entertaining. Given the fact that you will die a lot, the designers thankfully have allowed for unlimited lives, and reaching the next checkpoint, where your character will respawn, is mostly fairly easy. The stages are well designed, though a bit repetitive, but with nicely rendered backgrounds there's plenty of planetary Star Wars scenery to enjoy. Collectible articfacts and orbs are scattered about the various stages giving an incentive for exploration. The graphics are nothing cutting edge, pretty standard for the PS2, especially for a game like this. It seems to me that the game was rushed into distribution, to capitalize on the release of the Season I DVDs and the new season premiere. However, there is fun to be had. It plays a lot like Jedi Power Battles, which, for me, was one of the best Jedi fighting games ever. To finally have another chance to play as Jedi and dispatch droid enemies with cool lightsaber action is enough incentive to play this game. To rent or buy will probably depend on your love of Star Wars or appreciation for top notch gaming. I have to say, this is mostly a game for Star Wars fans.

As an intermediate gamer, I have to say that this game is really good. For those of you that play Halo 3 ODST and Modern Warfare 2 all day, this may seem slightly boring. But for a relaxing -yet challenging- game, this is a great buy!
There are two difficulties on this game- Padawan and Master. I'm only on Padawan now, and it's not just a walk on the beach. It is easier than other games, however, because of the respawning system. Whenever you die, you simply respawn at the last checkpoint (there are no shortages of these). You do lose a significant amount of points, though, so you still have to be careful. The storyline includes one of the best features of the game. Altough you can play the whole game on single-player, you will always have a partner Jedi to assist you. By default, it will be AI controlled. But at any desired time, another player can join and play as the second Jedi! The other great part about the storyline is that you can play as a variety of different Star Wars heroes (therefore the title, "Republic Heroes"). The storyline is divided up into missions, each with its own heroes. For example, you start off as Anikan with Ashoka, next you have Obi-wan with Klo, and later perhaps Windu with another Jedi. Some missions also use clone troopers, which are quite fun to battle with. And after each completed mission, autosave will save your progress. If there are any downsides to this game, it would probably be the camera angles. They can be slightly frustrating at times, especially if you are trying to beat a mission with a partner. It is a third-person view, with no split-screen for two player mode. This is only a minor issue though, and does not take anything away from the overall quality of the game. In summary, this is a great game if you are a Star Wars fan and/or if you enjoy destroying hordes of droids with a lightsaber. The graphics are great for the PS2, and the gameplay is fun and addictive.

I've played a LOT of Star Wars games over the years, as well as a lot of video games in general. This one was released for the XBOX 360, Wii, PS3 and PS. I don't know how it performs on the other systems, but there is a lot of waiting for it to load on the PS2. Also, the video sequences play roughly, most likely because of the system specs. The game play itself is just so-so. The camera stays in one spot and doesn't follow the characters, this makes moving in a 3D space very difficult. This makes controlling your characters an exercise in frustration. I played only a few levels, trying to jump from place to place was a trip, I kept falling to my death. I finally put the game back into its case after a few days and haven't pulled it back out since.
