Three times a charm as the old saying goes and this is the third generation casting of this irreparable and irrepairable droid from the first classic STAR WARS movie.
The audience first and last meets R5D4 at the foot of a sandcrawler that is owned and operated by Jawas, the scavengers of the desert.
R5D4 has a retro 50s look, the rhomboid dome with the sparse features and the antennae reminding of George the Robot of the 50s Lost In Space movies.
The R5D4 action figure has a stark realism as the action figure is painted with a dusty grimy patina as if it had sat through one too many dirty sandstorms in the desert.
Unlike the R2D2 Coruscant Sentry which I also own, this R5D4 action figure has a swivelling head.
However, unlike the R2D2 Coruscant Sentry the R5D4 does not light up and make sounds.

An indispensible item even to the most minimalist of STAR WARS action figure collections, the R5D4 is a good action figure that I will have with me for all time.

5.0 out of 5 stars A welcome remake finally!, July 28, 2007
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Star Wars - The Saga Collection - Basic Figure - R5-D4 (Toy)
This is only the third R5-D4 3 3/4 figure made. The original vintage figure was a fan favorite, the 1995 POTF 2 was a big disappointment, while this one is much better. It's based on an earlier R2-D2 figure mold, with one of the panels glued in place. The "bad motivator" works great on this dome. The third leg is a separate piece, and unfortunately, this figure isn't based on the R2 mold where the leg can retract. The panels on the back should be painted red, and this is a detail forgotten by Hasbro. Otherwise, it's a welcome remake of a fan favorite.
