1.0 out of 5 stars A very poor kit, not worth the money., January 15, 2006
This review is from: Star Wars Death Star Model Kit (Toy)
To start with, the description of this kit is false. There are NOT 75 pieces... only 11. The detail is VERY, VERY poor... large soft-edged raised blocks with only the vaguest resemblance to the Death Star as seen in the films. You'd honestly be better off starting with a smooth plastic ball & making a Death Star from scratch, rather than buying this kit.

2.0 out of 5 stars has small potential..., May 3, 2007

I bought this model knowing it was a simplistic, even 'crappy' version of the Death Star all SW fans know and love and all. Its true, the detail is all but gone besides the circular point where the 'blast' would come out...so I put some work into making this work.
First I took a razor blade and sewing pins, cut pin-point small holes all over the front and side to make 'windows.' Then I put the needles in each hole and layered the entire DS, inside and out, with a medium-gray spray paint. If you're brave then please paint all the panels with a bit darker model paint, but this being my first model really...the coats of spray paint were good enough for me. I then hooked and glued the pieces for the top half together, and then pieces for the bottom half. I didnt glue the top and bottom halves together because I placed a battery powered tap-light inside of the Death Star (whenever batteries need to be changed, i can 'un-hook' the hemispeheres). The light coming from the windows looks great!
THEN...I purchased green glow-string off the internet, and created a 'blast' coming from 8 points, joining to 1, shooting out from the model.
Now it hangs on transparent fishing string from my ceiling, with other small SW flying ships around it, shooting that blast (also hung) and missing the millenium falcon.
by itself its not really worth too many looks, but with a little creativity it can be worth a lot more looks. Here's a look at the 'lit' and unlit/hung shots during the day. Keep in mind those small windows are all around, looking like that from most views around. The blast looks sweet at night. Good luck!

2.0 out of 5 stars Not As Good As In The Movies, January 2, 2008

I bought this model while on vacation once and when I started working on it after I got home I realized I kind of wasted my money; that this was a bad impulse buy. The problem is that while the Death Star looks soooooo impresive on the screen, even on TV, but as a model it's just a big round ball. Big whoop...

Okay, it might be nice for somebody just starting out in modelling as it has few parts, but for an advanced modeller or even someone with moderate modelling skills, this is a waste of time and money. 'Sorry.

'Ron
