Not quite what I expected,

This is not a double-bladed light saber like the one that Darth Maul used in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. Instead, there is a normal-sized light saber and a mini light saber that can be attached end-end. The mini light saber can either be stored (hidden) inside the handle of the bigger one or inserted in the end of the handle with the blade extended to form a second blade. The normal-sized light saber is not as nice as the other ones we have: it only retracts about two-thirds of the way, not all the way; the blade does not extend at the push of a button, but has to be manually extended. The light effects are just as good though and the sound effects are actually a little better. The mini light-saber lights up but does not make any sound. The light tends to go out when it is inserted in the handle of the larger one to form a double-blade, I think because the button rubs up against the inside of the handle of the larger one. My son seems happy with it, despite it being different from the one Darth Maul used.

Poor design, small blade turns off when attached,

The smaller blade consistently turns off after being inserted into the end of the larger blade. Not immediately, but after 30-60 seconds. Might be due to the button being pressed inside the larger handle, or maybe it's designed to do that as a battery-saving feature. But I doubt it was designed to turn off, since the larger one stays on.
It's poorly designed anyway because it looks small and weak. When you think 'double-bladed lightsaber', you thing of Darth Maul's, with the same size on each end. It's clear on the packaging that one of them is smaller, I just think it's silly. But one of our kids really wanted it for his birthday when he saw it in the store, so we got it. We were all pretty disappointed that the small light kept turning off.

I bought this lightsaber to gut it and rip out the sound card. For it's value, the newer Hasbro lightsabers (the thinner ones that come with the DVD) are actually MUCH MUCH better. This particular lightsaber does the following:
LEDs flash / blink when clashing. There is only one swing/clash sensor and I think the board just alternates between the sounds. The small additional lightsaber simply turns on and lights up, but does not have sound. All in all, there are better (and actually cheaper) lightsabers out there - the newer ones cost around $20-25. Plus you get a 15 minute DVD along with them. Save your money for those. The boxes for those look like this: Star Wars Electronic Lightsaber - Obi-Wan Star Wars Electronic Lightsaber - Darth Vader

My son had wanted this duel action lightsaber because of the double ended blade. One blade is normal sized like the other Star Wars lightsabers sold. However, the other blade is so small it looks like it was made for Yoda. The smaller blade lights up so faintly that we could not see that it was lit unless we turned off the lights. Also when you attach the smaller blade into the handle so that the lightsaber is "double bladed", the feeble light will not stay on. It seems that it was poorly designed so that upon inserting the smaller blade into position, the button is turned off within. This toy is overpriced and not worth the money.

Purchased for Halloween 2009. 4 yr old plays with it regularly (battling the other neighborhood Jedi) and it's holding up well after 3 months. The double light saber feature is incredibly cool -- 2 toys in 1! My son loves to playing both good guy and bad guy by switching from single to double saber. Weight, size and operation are no problem for a 4 yr old. Love the way it collapses to store and that the little saber can be completely tucked away in the handle of the larger one. The sounds are very fun. Wish this had been around when I was a kid!!

This is a great light saber. I hadn't seen it until recently. You can either put both pieces together as shown or you can take them apart and have a regular sized light saber and a small, more knife like one for two handed battle. My cousin is a huge Star Wars fan and was thrilled to see this. Great for pretend play.

I got mine yesterday at a Thrift Store for $2.00, and all it needed was batteries. The main saber is a bit large for even my hands, but the mini-saber is pretty nice, like a lightsaber dagger or a switchblade. I guess you could get into a duel with friends, and if somebody doesn't have a lightsaber, let them borrow the daggersaber.

Although we have over 20 lightsabers, this was a "must have" for my son. Works fine and seems durable. Perfect addition to his collection.

This is what my 11-year-old grandson, and his younger brother, wanted, and they were delighted to open them on Christmas Eve. I thought they were a bit pricey, but a fun toy. I'm not sure how long they will last--just hope they don't poke each other's eyes with them.
