Ehhh..closer to 3.5 stars. My son is in the throes of a major Star Wars: The Clone Wars addiction and this is somewhere around the sixth lightsaber in our house. That said, I am something of a lightsaber expert. Compared to others, this one is just average in features and a bit pricey..shop around and keep a few of things in mind:
1) This is NOT a "force action" lightsaber. In other words, it does not spring open with the touch of a button but rather must be opened with a flick of the wrist. OK for some kids, but smaller ones might have a hard time opening it fully. 2) The extra, smaller lightsaber works the same way. It detaches as advertised, but is somewhat balky to get re-attached. Also, it doesn't make any sound. 3) The sound of the big lightsaber is pretty realistic, but as one reviewer already noted it is not that bright compared to other electronic lightsabers..it also doesn't seem as loud. The small "blade" isn't very bright either. And all together this model uses more batteries than most. 4) If your kids are like mine, they will beat the living daylights out of anything and everything with these things..each other, trees, furniture, me, etc. The other electronic lightsabers my son and his cousin have used don't stand up very well to repeated whacks and ultimately lose either the sound or the light. That said, however, the plastic "blades" tend to hold up pretty well. It has been my experience that the manual versions like this one tend to have fewer problems opening and closing (long term) than the spring-open, "force action" variety. Good luck, and may the Force be with you.

My 7 year old son is a Star Wars freak, this was one of his birthday gifts and he loves it. Carries it around everywhere in his backpack with his other lightsabers. This lightsaber is a little bigger than the regular ones, just something to keep in mind.

My son "absolutely HAD to have this toy." It is way over-priced, and for the amount of batteries it takes, it barely lights up. He is enjoying playing with it currently, but the construction quality isn't good so it probably won't last.

I was very disappointed in this item. The picture shows it accurately, however I assumed it was a true dual light saber where both ends would be the same size. The smaller light saber part has to be hooked in to the handle and it is very small. It also doesn't make much sense because after you hook it in you cannot turn the small one on.

A very good double sword for the child that has to have a Sith sword. It holds up to wear and tear well.
My 5 year old grand sons loves it. He would have preferred two full swords but I'm glad one sword is shorter then the other. I am glad I bought it for him and he is enjoying it.

The handle on this thing is huge, to big for my little guy.
But the big problem I had was that the light on the little unit did not last as long as the first set of battery's. First I thought the battery's had just died and changed them, but this did not do it. I then tried to open it to replace the bulb, but could not get to the bulb to replace it. I will not be getting him a new one

I'm convinced that this is the only lighting, soundmaking, retractable, red dual-bladed light saber TOY on the market. I searched the internet and stores so long before purchasing this one. The ones made by the Star Wars Company are meant to be costume props, and not meant for boys at play. They break far to easily. But my boys have had many a battle with this one and it is still holding up. (Granted, they are not allowed to hit each other, just hit each other's lightsabers... and they never even do that with full force because they are interested in protecting their light sabers.
However, when I first received this one, the light did not work in the smaller blade for some reason. We checked the batteries, and they were in right. Strange thing is that it just started working out of the blue one week later, and has been working ever since. My only complaint I have now is that I just wish it could retract all the way, so no red was showing when it was closed. But I don't think there is a better one on the market than this one.

I got this lightsaber for my Grandson. He is 3 and absolutely loves Star Wars!! Especially "Dark Bader" (Darth Vader) and Luke. It has stood up to much action between he and his brother. It lights up and makes the sounds the light sabers in the movies make.
