3.0 out of 5 stars An OK figure...
Palpatine is not all that exciting but he does the job. There is something to keep in consideration though: He has two variants. One of them has a correct red lightsaber and the other has blue. Push down on his head for a semi-lame slashing attack.

Revenge of the Sith is most amazing to me in that it was able to take an otherwise boring character such as Chancellor Palpatine and make him interesting and frankly awesome. For evidence, look no further than this figure. The high points: great likeness of Ian McDiarmid on the normal head, relatively non-obtrusive saber-chopping action feature, good for displaying in combat against a Mace figure. There are a few things wrong with him, most of which would only bug an anal-retentive freak like me anyway. I think the detailing on the deformed head is a little light; it's a good sculpt, but would have benefited from more painted detail like the #12 Palpatine. His feet act as the lever for his action feature and cause him to lean forward at a precarious angle when standing. And there is of course the lack of a plain right hand for normal Palpatine (only one clutching the saber is included).

Overall, a fine figure for a fine character and a worthy addition to your ROTS collection. (Helpful hint: If you can ignore the sliver of brown sleeve on the wrist, the saberless right hand from #1 Obi-Wan (slashing attack) fits Palpatine just fine.)

The Star Wars Revenge of the Sith "Palpatine" offers many possibilities, and I especially like the variant with the red lightsaber.

Palpatine comes with interchangeable heads (1 Chancellor Palpatine, 1 Darth Sidious), and also comes with force lightening attachments that can wrap around the wrists of two empty Sidious hand attachments. The lightsaber comes attached to one of the Palpatine hands, and has been spotted in two versions -- red and blue.

The detail on the Chancellor's head sculpt is quite extraordinary, and I'm also quite fond of the Sidious head, which also sports a creepy smile. His red robes are quite detailed with fine black painted accents, and the fabric details are quite true to the movie.

Push down on his feet and he can slash out his red (or blue) lightsaber and "strike down" any gullible Jedi that enters his path. Have fun zapping your Mace Windu figure out the window!

If you like great likenesses in your figures, the Palpatines from the ROTS are unsurpassed. Actor Ian McDiarmand's face, down to every wrinkle is captured perfectly. My only problem with the figure is the interchangeable head that comes with it.

We are given the choice to keep him as is, or change him over to his deformed and hideous 'Darth Sidious' look. Therein lies the problem. Yes the extra head is deformed, but the expression and face are downright comical. Hardly 'evil'. If you choose to display this figure in your collection, I recommend keeping him in his original 'Chancellor Palpatine' form. In that incarnation alone, I would give him a 5 star rating as the paint and sculpt detail of the figure make a terrific addition to any collector's shelf.

Definitly a highlight in the Episode III toyline, this figure of the sinister Supreme Chancellor Palpatine comes straight from the scene where Jedi master Mace Windu and his fellow companions try to arrest him -- with no success, as the cloaked Sith lord is not easily matched.

The figure of Palpatine in an excellent likness of actor Ian McDiarmid comes with an additional head and set of hands, as well as with blue lightning bolts, so that the figure can be transformed from politician to gruelsome Sith warlord.

I thought this figure was soooo cool because you can change his head to an evil shriveled up face. and that his lightsaber is stuck in his hand because in the old star wars figures taking the lightsaber on and off the hand made it so you cant put it on again! and this figure is so fun with my mace windu so see ya i'm going to play with him right now!!!!

This is claimed to be one of the best in my collection. He is very detailed and has some pretty interesting features. I enjoy watching this one do its lightsaber action when I test it weekly and gently set it on my shelf for my eyes to see. He is very detailed with his heads, hands and his robe. He also has a very shocking (Get it shocking! I crack myself up!) lightning attack. But one thing I don't like about this figure is that it's hard to keep track of with all those accessories. I loose them sometimes but then I find them again (I'm running out of shelf space). It gets pretty anoying. Along with some other figures that have the same problem... >sigh< I should get used to it.

4.0 out of 5 stars $100 Star Wars E3 BF52 PALPATINE, September 4, 2006
This review is from: Star Wars E3 BF52 PALPATINE (Toy)
The reason, more than likely that this particular figure is so expensive is I do believe that it is a variant, the figure was packaged with the wrong color lightsaber-Jedi blue instead of Sith red, and then later corrected by Hasbro, I don't see why the vendor fails to mention this in their description. Figures with mistakes are generally more sought after and therefore more expensive as they are obviously limited in number

1.0 out of 5 stars $100...Ouch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, September 2, 2006
This review is from: Star Wars E3 BF52 PALPATINE (Toy)
Is it just me, or does $100 for an Episode 3 Star Wars figure sound absurd? Is this a hard to find figure? Seems pretty ridiculous.

Anybody else also think Amazon's action figure selection has become craptastic since TRU left? All we have now is high priced specialty stores. What a shame.
