5.0 out of 5 stars FX version sound effects without the price, May 1, 2010
= Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:2.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Star Wars Electronic Lightsaber - Obi-Wan (Toy)
I got this for my son at Toys'R'us at $19.99, and figured we should get the red Vader one so we can play together. It turned out they had a buy one and get the second one at 50% off, and then another $3 off sale. I ended up getting 2 of them for $27. No complaints here. I can't believe they can make stuff so cheap these days. This thing is actually pretty good looking. The sound effects are phenomenal. Switch it on for a satisfying swoosh, wave it around for that light saber buzz, hit something for that crackle sound and finally shut it down to hear movie-like effect. FX saber sounds at fraction of the price. The light does not seem that bright, but it helps to be in a dim room. extracting and retracting the blade is what it is....

My son and I watched the mini-DVD with all the cool light saber duels from original trilogy to the new clone wars animations, and had several matches. My son loves it! My wife wants to play because the sound effects are so cool! Tons of fun! I think it's shorter and smaller than the FX one, so if you're a die-hard patiwan training for your Jedi master status, stick with the replicas and spend your hundreds elsewhere, but if you're buying for a kid and want the bang for the buck, I believe this to be the most "realistic" light saber out there.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally they got rid of the HUGE handle, October 15, 2010

I had some of the older versions of these, and my only complaint of those was that the handle was just so bulky. I have big hands but it made them cumbersome to hold. The new versions they have slimmed down the handle to make it more like what they use in the movie. the handle is the same width as the blade which makes it much easier to wrap your mitts around it. These things will hold up to some serious beatings. If you are playing with a small child i believe these things will last forever, because my brother and i fight with a pair of these (we are 30 and 28 respectively) and we swing these things hard and they just get a few scuffs on them. And most retailers sell them for about 20 bones so get a pair and swing away.

Cheers

Our 5 year old and 3 year old sons love these light sabers. I am enormously surprised on how durable they are. They make very realistic sounds and the battery life is good, unlike some toys where the battery needs to be changed frequently. This light saber was a great purchase.

I bought this for my 6 year old Star Wars loving nephew. He played with it all Christmas Eve and Christmas day. The sounds are real (just like in the movie) and the light is also good. This is a great gift for a child (or an adult Star Wars enthusiast). It's as close as you can get to a light saber from the movie. Highly recommended!

This is one of the better lightsabers I have encountered. My kids are pretty rough on toys, but I think this one is tougher than they are. They continue to have battle after battle and it hasn't broken.

No Jedi wannabe is complete without his or her lightsabre at their side. While the Force FX Star Wars Lightsabres This product was kindly loaned to us by (reviewed here) may offer the perfect accompaniment for the hardened fan, they wouldn't stand up two seconds in a full on duel.

For that, you supposedly need Hasbro's slightly cheaper Lightsabre range. Featuring Obi-Wan Kenobi, Mace Windu and Darth Vader options the plastic lightsabre is idea for battling it out for control of the universe.

Load the stick up with 3 AA batteries and you're in action. Once on, the lightsabre will glow - in this case blue, although we found that for the best results you need to be in a dark room.

Every time you clash with something else, be it another lightsabre or even your dog's head, the device will make a `battle-clash' sound giving you the effect that it really is real.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great toy. Great customer service from Hasbro., November 7, 2011

We bought this for our son for his 7th birthday. He LOVES it! He loves the lights and the sounds. His siblings and his friends all want to play with it too. It has been played with consistently for the 10 weeks since his birthday. He got $20 from his grandma a few weeks ago and bought himself another one (Mace Windu). The sound in the Obi Wan lightsaber stopped working after a few weeks so I called Hasbro and they sent a prepaid label to return it and were willing to either refund my money (I have to include my receipt) or replace the lightsaber. You don't always get that kind of great customer service with toys. I was very pleased.

This toy does it all, lights up, makes the Zwuzzing sound when you swing it through the air! My 4 yr old Grandson is so hyped about being able to dress up like his favorite Star Wars character and have a "real light saver." It seems pretty sturdy for a plastic toy and he and his Mom have had some good "fights" without anything or anyone receiving damage. I'd recommend this one for anyone looking for a Light Saber that plays like the real deal! Star Wars Electronic Lightsaber - Obi-Wan!

I missed it in the description but my son and I were delighted that the blade protracts from the hilt with the press of a button. Very durable. The lights and electronics have survived in spite of constant dropping. Paint/coating is quite marred from use but gives it a cool appearance. One minor issue we've had is pinching of skin when retracting the blade.
