4.0 out of 5 stars No names, but lotsa games, April 29, 2002

This review is from: Star Wars Episode II Attack Of The Clones: Republic Gunship (7163) (Toy)
Although the very interactive LEGO Republic Gunship doesn't come with any distinct characters (Obi-Wan, Mace Windu, and so forth), you do get a nice assortment of "extras" - four clone troopers, a Jedi, a droideka (or destroyer droid), and two super battle droids. Having multiples of the "extras" can make your own LEGO recreations of scenes from Episode II more real. Note that the Episode I sets often had six battle droids, so your Trade Federation army could get pretty big pretty fast. I liked the Rebublic Gunship for most of the reasons I've stated above - it's interactive, and has a lot of those "extras". The downside is its price. But when you do get it, and place your figures on the battlefield (I myself make drastic recreations of Star Wars scenes, it's great), it's well worth the money. May the Force be with you!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great interpretation by the Lego engineers!, January 31, 2003

As an adult collector and Star Wars Lego enthusiast, I've learned to appreciate the work that must go into the design of the various Star Wars offerings released by the Lego company. Design aesthetic must always be balanced by playability, practicality, and durability. So, even though many collectors may lament the fact that this model isn't completely accurate in its design, it's still a whole lot of fun to build and play with!

For me, building large Star Wars Lego sets is, frankly, therapeutic and very relaxing. This set in particular has a lot of "heart" and some great design features. Several hidden hatches, a removable flying section, sliding doors, a magnetically balanced tool compartment, three clone troopers, a Jedi, two super battle droids, and one three-legged destroyer droid make this set a huge winner in my book.

I wasted a whole evening putting this thing together -- time WELL spent! :)

To me, the one redeeming point to AOTC was the arrival of the Clone Army to save the day. The Clone's themselves were very cool in their armor, and the support vehicles they used made it even better. Lego's adaption of the LAATi Republic Gunship is on target. Extremely well designed, fun to build, loaded with extras such as compartments, gunracks, maintenance hatches, and superbly detailed. The tail-gunner station and controls were a great surprise. The Clone-trooper figs are great, as are the droids and droideka. The nameless jedi is also an nice addition. More Clone-troopers would have been better. Like everyone else has mentioned, the price is steep but well worth it. A must have for any SW fan or kids reinacting (a fancy word for playing) SW AOTC. Just wish it was around when I was a kid...

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Star Wars lego set, January 18, 2003

This is a very good lego set. If you are a fan of Star Wars , and know how yo build legos you definetly need to get one of these. This set includes a destroyer droid , two super battle droids , a jedi with lightsaber , and four clone troopers with blaster rifles. This set also has a cargo case with a magnet on top that you can pick up with a hole and magnet on the bottom . The disadvantage is that it only comes with four clone troopers . Some other lego sets I have are the twin pod cloud car , t-16 , y-wing and tie fighter , landspeeder , geonosian figter , jedi defense 1 and 2 , and a few custom built sets like a t-106.I am also buying the all terrain tactical enforcer as soon as possible. If you are saying this set is not durable I disagree. I hope you like your republic gunship.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Big, Bad Gunship, June 27, 2002

It's huge, it's armed to the teeth, and it's ready to blow things up! The Lego Republic Gunship is one of the best lego sets in existence (and also one of the largest). Armed with 3 blaster cannons, 2 laser cannons, 2 manual laser cannons (just like in the movie), and 2 missle launchers, it also comes with 4 clone troopers, a Jedi, 2 Super Battle Droids, and a Destroyer droid. There are also many hidden features, like the separatable jet and base that it leaves behind, the gun rack, etc. This thing is loaded! It's the best set I've ever bought! The best part is, you can get other lego minifigs to put inside, too, like Obi-Wan, Anakin, Yoda, or just a worker with a lightsaber! The possibilities are endless! Some people are dissappointed that there are no Clone Troopers to go on foot, but what you can do is substitute the pilots or the gunners or both! I only gave this a 4 in durability because no Lego set is invincible, however it is one of the sturdiest designs in legos I've ever seen. It's a little pricey, but well worth it. It took a while to build, too, but again it was well worth it. For anyone who likes Star Wars or legos or both, this is a MUST-HAVE!!!!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars I had to write this on the 50th anniversary of Lego's birthday, January 28, 2008

Yes, Lego is 50 years old, a fact touted by Google today. Since my son has this (now discontinued or retired) set, I thought I'd put in a word about how cool the Star Wars sets are.

He found it very, very hard to build when he put it together or "too young" (his words). It took three days and I can testify to how proud he felt, after getting together nearly 700 pieces (I think it was about 685 pieces).
Details worth noting: secret compartments and features that make for hours of imaginative play. We did have one bad day when a younger brother, just learning to walk, fell and destroyed hours of work but the older brother persevered (and learned something about patience and dealing with setbacks).
There are tiny figures that add to the fun such as troopers, droids and more. This one kept him occupied for hours.
The major benefits of Star Wars and other Legos:

1. They help develop an attention to detail and make reading directions fun and worth the time. There is a clear payoff for the time involved and kids love looking at the results of all that hard work. Our son has his right next to his soccer trophies.

2. Kids can create their own works and then turn around and make the "official" version. Also, the tie-in to Star Wars, resonant, evocative.

3. Adults often maintain an affection for Legos and keep collecting them.

4. If you do some research online, you'll discover that Legos are considered one of the most "trusted toys" around. I have my theories about why this is so. Part of the appeal is that they start with easy sets and then work up to harder ones. There have been imitations but people seem to come back to the classic Lego sets.

Just don't make the mistake we did. Hang on to the boxes and original instructions.

This is the PERFECT Lego set! It goes great with all other Star Wars Legos. It also comes with a good supply of Clone Troopers.
For people who don't like putting all the troopers in the pilot seats and gun seats, just use some other Lego guys. For people who complain about the stickers, you don't have to use them. This set also comes with a Jedi, two Super Battle Droids(only available in this set), and one Destroyer Droid--all you need for a miniature battle. It only took me 2 hours and 45 minutes to assemble. This is great! Have fun with your Repuplic Gunship!

When I bought this toy, I thought that this toy would be a waste of money, but I was wrong. This set is the best Episode II set. It comes with every thing to recreate the scene in the movie. It even comes with a tool box and you can take off the top part and it could be a jet, and the bottom part could be a base. It includes 4 clone troopers, 2 super battle droids, 1 destroyer droid, and 1 jedi. this set took my brother and I about 3 hours to build, but it was worth the time building it.

This model is amasing! The bottom part comes off and becomes a ground base. It has gun racks, gun turrets that really move, and storage compartments. I even costomized a AT-ST so it could be carried by the gunship. It might look like it is hard to build but it really isn't. Buy this model. You won't be dissappointed!

How much fun is in a massive set packed to the brim with mini figs? The most fun this year! Including 4 Clone Troopers, 2 Super Battledroids, Jimmy the Generic Jedi, and a Destroyer droid
This set I say is the best LEGO set of Star Wars so far! Great for Dioramas such as the one at Celebration II! With this set I recreated the Battle of Geonosis, with the help of my other LEGO sets and Custom creatins;) Couldn't of done it without ya LEGO!
