Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

One of the best Star Wars games to hit the shelves in years, Episode I: Racer is an exciting and addictive racing game that re-creates the podracing sequence from the newest Star Wars film. Though quick reflexes and lots of luck can carry you to the winner's circle in this game, wouldn't you rather have a trusty guide full of tips and tricks? This book will explain the pluses and minuses of each podracer available to you at the beginning of the game, as well as the others who pop up as you progress through the circuit. Maps of each race track include a list of shortcuts and dangers (highlighted with arrows and screen shots) so that you can go into each race knowing exactly what to expect. Also, each of the pods is described and analyzed, so you can figure out which one best suits your racing style and (more importantly) which components and enhancements each one needs to be more competitive. The book also offers some secrets and tips for unlocking hidden racers and courses, but in truth most of these can only be unlocked by one method: you winning the races. Still, if you're looking for some help in your new career as an intergalactic hotshot on the podracing circuit, this is the book for you. --Mike Fehlauer

Format: Paperback
As a fifty year old father of an eight year old son, fascinated with Star Wars and a novice to computer games, I was delighted to find this guide. It not only steps one through strategies for game play but points out lots of terrific shortcuts and player tips. With well annotated maps of each course and clever backgrounds on the drivers and their engines, this books adds to the excitement of the pad race scenes from the Star Wars Episode One film. Only a few pages are specific to Nintendo, while most apply also to PC game players. Much more specific than the game's user manual with wonderful pictures and great advice. This was our first non-educational games (we had to purchases game controller, 3D accelerator and more memory) and our first game guide. I can't imagine we would have enjoyed the game as much without the guide. Bravo!
