4.0 out of 5 stars Hasbro finally did it!!, November 4, 2006
This review is from: Star Wars Extending Lightsaber: Luke Skywalker (Toy)
I'm guessing these are gonna be on a lot of people's Christmas list for obvious reasons. It's funny, I'd always been talking about the electronic lightsabers and the same thing came up: the blade shoudl be able to go all the way into the hilt and just pop out when you hit the button. So while I'm walking down my local Walmart, I was surprised to find these. When I picked up one in the box and looked at it, there were obvious drawbacks that made me not want to buy it at first. For starters the power button isn't where you'd expect. Instead of the activation box, the power button is off to the side, so it makes the whole thing bulkier and lose a lot of movie accuracy. Secondly, the hilt is a bit bigger than the standard electronic lightsabers. It's not so much bigger that you'd really notice, but kids might have issues being able to hold it right.

After a while, I got over the cons and decided to buy one. I mean come on, this is something I've been waiting for Hasbro to do for a really long time. I ended up picking up the Anakin/Luke lightsaber, and I will definitely say that the pros far make up for the cons. First of all, the blad goes all the way into the hilt and pops out when you activate it. Fans have been waiting for Hasbro to do that for years. The sound and light effects also are an improvement over the standard electronic lightsabers. When it is waved around, you can actually hear the hum change as if it's being waved around. When it hits something, not only does it do its signature crash sound, but the light also flashes. Another cool feature is when you push the blade down and lock it back into place, the whole thing deactivates and you're ready to give it another go.

So overall, while it is a bit bigger and a tad more unwieldy, this is a really fun toy. Young and older Star Wars fans are going to love these. I've only had mine for a few days and it's really hard to put down. Hasbro scored a winner with these.
