I have to write about the durablility of this toy. I'm huge Star Wars collector and last night while rearranging things in my apartment my X-Wing which is placed on top of a six foot tall book shelf, was knocked off. I was horrified. 3.0 out of 5 stars Great for collectors, not durable enough for active play
I got this x-wing for my son a year ago, as it was the only x-wing toy on the market at the time (it was also priced a lot lower than the $199.99 it's at as of this writing - 1/2/11). The details of this particular model are undeniably accurate, down to the removable "moss" and the burn marks on the vehicle.

The manufacturing company made a lot of...

I was so affraid that the cannons or wings would break. I looked and all the wings and cannons had fallen off but they were all intact! I easily put the ship back together and made sure that it's as good as it was when I first bought it. I was so relieved and amazed! I highly recommend this item.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Totally AWESOME!", December 27, 2007

This was a Santa gift for my 6 y/o. It was larger than we expected, and the package under the tree was quite impressive!

My son LOVES this. He has an R2D2 that fits in it perfectly. Luke wasn't easy to get in the seat, but he does fit (watch out for the hands - they do come off!).

My only minor complaint is that one of the laser cannons kept falling off. That was solved with a little super glue. Otherwise, this is, in my son's words, "Totally AWESOME!"

Cathrine Lazarou is my mother, so doin't worry about the title.

This is a very nice set. I got it for my Birthday, and I like it a lot. My only 2 complaints are that: 1)the wings shake/are seperate from the body, and 2)the one cannon keeps falling off. I fixed that by putting some ceran rap over the hole in the cannon, and than attaching it to the wing. All in all, however, it is an awesome set. I would highly recommend you getting it.

Oh, and by the way, for those of you who wonder where to put your small accessories, there is a secret compartment behind the seat in the cockpit. Just push/pull, whatever, the seat front, and than just stuff your stuff behind the seat. ;)

4.0 out of 5 stars A Collectors Item, February 8, 2008

The X-Wing arrive in a huge packaging and the model itself needs some minor assembly to display it in its full glory. Two pieces of its right wing and laser canon needs to be sloted into the turbine engine and you're done.

The model is scaled almost perfectly to the studio models used in filming. Earlier Star Wars X-Wing models in the late 70s are out of proportion and is clearly meant as a play toy. This model is large and when assembled looks terrific. Scale modellers can do more with the rudimentary painting to give it more colour and realistic weathering.

There is alot of detail in the model although they are not very accurate compared to the real scale models. Nonetheless this is a great model and one will find it hard to display it unless you have a really large cabinet.

I hang my model from the ceiling using nylon fish lines as I have no place to display it. I would recommend this model to any true, die hard Star Wars fan and you would truly enjoy reminiscing the time when you were a kid with this model.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great for collectors, not durable enough for active play, January 2, 2011

The manufacturing company made a lot of "improvements" over the x-wing my brother and I had when we were kids, most of which seemed aimed at the collector's market. The wings can now be removed, and the four laser cannons are still removable as well. Seems like a bonus, but these laser cannons fall off more easily than I remember and the wings get askew easily. Very easily. My son's x-wing has mainly collected dust under his bed for the last 6 months, because the cannons fall off every time he plays with it and he gets frustrated by having to put them on again and again and again (he's 5&1/2).

I should note that he doesn't play with it hard. The cannons simply won't stay on, even during the lightest play (he and I were playing yesterday, and while I was "flying" the x-wing through the house 2 of the cannons kept falling off any time I banked through a turn in the house). In fact, 1 of them simply won't stay on against the forces of gravity. This x-wing has never been dropped, never been slammed into anything, never been mistreated. The gun simply won't stay on any more.

Back in the day, R2 was a built-in part that you would push to make the wings open and close. They've since switched to a lever in the back that opens & closes the wings, leaving a slot for an action figure R2. Sweet. Except that the switch doesn't seem to open the wings all of the way after a while, and now the wings are cockeyed. Again, under extremely mild play.

The details are cool, and this toy is ideal for any collector who wants the ultimate x-wing to finish off their scale model of Dagobah. If you actually want to play with your toy, however, this toy isn't designed to be played with.

If my son was rating this he would've given it a 5. However I am the one that purchased it and am a bit disappointed that it broke within a year. I realize that nobody forced me to purchase it at that price or to give it to a 5 year old but I did. The wing attachments broke, likely from abusive use by my son so be careful if purchasing for younger, less careful child.

I got this for my 5 year old nephew who is a huge Star Wars fan. He totally loved it...and it was huge. It is not a small X-wing by any means and seems very solidly built. The first thing my nephew did was to take out Luke and to turn him upside down..."He's training." he said. I highly recommend this toy.

Everything I expected when I ordered it. It was difficult to find (not in stores) but ordering it was easy and shipment came rather fast. In very good condition and to my surprise it came with a Luke Skywalker pilot when it had said on website that one was not included. Overall very pleased and it is hanging in my son's room along with the Tie Fighter we had purchased previously.

My mom is writing this review for me. I am 6 years old and I got this from Santa. Luke skywalker fits in there, luke looks good his hands come off and I lost both of them. THis toy does NOT include an R2D2 unit, even though there is a place for him on the ship. Luke didn't come with a blue light saber, either. You only have to put on the wings when you buy it. The wings are strong and don't come off. The feet work good too. It can go in attack position. May The Force Be WIth You. - Miles 6

5.0 out of 5 stars This thing rocks !!!, February 3, 2009

This review is from: Star Wars X-Wing Fighter Vehicle with Luke Skywalker Figure (Toy)
I got this more for myself than my kids. This toy is great and the kids are finally starting to appreciate that the X-wing is the coolest vehicle in our fleet... at least until we find a Republic Gunship.

This ship has good scale and impressive detail. The landing gear is the best of any Star Wars vehicle out there, and the X-wing's opening mechanism is simple and sturdy. One thing it misses is proton torpedoes. Every blasted fighter and action figure comes with missiles but this one.

While the Luke Skywalker figure bears a really good resemblance to Mark Hamill, it lacks articulation. The figure is also left handed cause the light saber only fits in his left hand. Thank goodness the new Legacy Luke Skywalker in pilot gear came out.

The dragonsnake is OK for filler, but an R2-D2 figure would have been better. Finally, the swamp muck is a nice detail (but I'd rather have an R2-D2), but it's impractical to keep around so it's stored safely in a box until I decide to display the X-wing somewhere.
