5.0 out of 5 stars I'm kind of glad that I held off buying these games....
I held off buying either Galactic Battlegrounds or Clone Campaigns because of reviews that told me that it would be a waste of money if I already had Age of Empires. I see now that this was a bogus opinion. I found this 2 CD set of both games to be a blast- it combined two of my favorite interests- Star Wars and Age of Empires. 3.0 out of 5 stars Star Wars Battlegrounds
I love this game because of the Star Wars nostalgia. Age of Empires is one of my favorite computer games, and with it having a Star Wars theme it's even cooler. However, the graphics are not so up-to-date anymore. When I played years ago when it first came out, it was amazing. But now that game quality has improved over the years, playing this game again is not as...

I mean I've had every version of Age of Empires from the original to the Conquerors expansion and I did not get tired of it. If anything it rejuvenated the whole thing for me. There are plenty of new twists here with new weapontry, technology, civilizations, and scenarios.

Of course there was one advantage to holding off this long to get these games. This jewel case set is MUCH cheaper than buying the two when they first came out. And if you are already familiar with the AOE engine you need no manual.

This is the kind of game that you come home to tired after a full day of work and still end up playing it way too late....

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Multiplayer, October 20, 2004
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds Saga (Jewel Case) (CD-ROM)
Good Game --> Stellar price

Any (well almost any) Star Wars fan / Real Time Strategy (RTS) fan will enjoy this game. Galactic Battlegrounds' multiplayer is great particularly because of the ability to create up to 250 units. This entitles for massive scale battles raging over any (again, almost any) of your favorite Star Wars world. It's great especially since the trilogy came out on DVD; it helps draw together the entire Star Wars galaxy.

Really fun with friends and great to have on a boring Saturday afternoon.

While not new or groundbreaking, this game is a lot of fun. Especially if you're like me and are a diehard Star Wars fan and you've enjoyed playing Age of Empires. The graphics were pretty good for it's time and the sound is the usual incredible Star Wars experience, gone are the days of X-Wing's terrible voice acting. Each of the sides are similar, but have some of their own unique units. At a time when Star Wars games were don the decline in quality this was a breath of fresh air. It also will run pretty well on a low end machine, in todays times that's hard to come by. It's definitly worth the $9.99 price of admission.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a fun, challenging, and enjoyable game!, November 21, 2005
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds Saga (Jewel Case) (CD-ROM)
This game is fun. It is a must for all Star Wars/Age of Empires/Empire Earth/Rise of Nations fans. Even if you don't do star wars, the science fiction spaceships/characters/equipment is fascinating. The graphics are excellent, just like Age of Empires 2 Gold. The music sounds fantastic - music clips from Star Wars Episodes 1,2,4,5, and 6 incuding Duel of the Fates, Across the Stars, The haunting Emperor/Darth Sidious Theme, The Empire March/Darth Vader's theme, and much more. These add a great touch to the game. The buildings and units are exceptional, the civilizations are great, and the power ups are not lacking. It has campaigns, which are do-able and enjoyable in easy mode, but more difficult in hard mode. It has random maps, death matches among other standard games that are very challenging even in easy mode. I have not won a random map yet, but I haven't taken advantage of all the power-ups and strategies. The fact that the game is substantially more challenging than Age of Empires is what makes it all the better because of the challenge it provides. Empire Earth - Art of Conquest has a good Space age, but this game is alot better and has much more of a variety. There are 4-5 "epochs" each allowing you to build more advanced ships, artillery, and units. It seems like it is never ending. It may be overwhelming to new RTS game users, but if you are even just OK at playing Age of Empires 2 Gold (same engine/gameplay), or Empire Earth, and/or Rise of Nations, this game will be a pleasant addition and challenge to your game repertoire. This game may bore those who prefer Rome-Total War, Age of Empires 3, or Empire Earth 2, due to it's simplicity. I only have a 1 GHz, so it works fine for me. Depends on your taste. So far, the only glitch I noticed is at times, the music will cut out for a split second and then resume, especially if there are a lot of units on the screen battling, but that's OK. I only had the game for 4 days, and I don't see myself getting bored with it any time soon.

5.0 out of 5 stars For every Star Wars Geek, August 30, 2005

If you love the Age of the Empire series and you are a Star Wars fan you will love this game. It works exactly like Age of the Empire, it just has different names, i.e. carbon instead of lumber, nova instead of gold. The greatest difference is being able to do an air attack. It is great to finally get to use tie fighters or x-wings to fight. I really loved being able to send a hoard of AT-AT's to trample the enemy. Loads of fun and with the Clone Expansion there are lots of campains to fight. A must for any Star Wars Geek.

4.0 out of 5 stars Star Wars Galactic battlefront saga, August 5, 2005

Star Wars Galactic battlefront saga comes with two disks and Star Wars Galactic battlefront saga clone campaigns. The graphics are O.K, but the game makes up for that. If you or your friend both have it, you can play over the internet. You can deisign your own levels with hundreds of buildings, such as a shield generator; units, from jedi to bounty hunters; and everything else from Star Wars. Play on campaigns from episodes I, II, IV, V, and VI. It's a great game that includes lots of strategy.

Although this game is older now I still love it. I prefer it over Age of Empires because I like Sci-Fi and higher tech games. It is basically taking the Age of Empires engine and using Star Wars concepts. This is much better. It isn't something to get for amazing graphics but it does provide hours and hours of entertainment. Especially when playing online with friends.

4.0 out of 5 stars Worth the money, January 10, 2008
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds Saga (Jewel Case) (CD-ROM)
It's a thin Star Wars veneer to Age of Empires 2. It's actually very fun, but I had some issues:

1. Infantry can't shoot aircraft like in StarCraft. Wtf.
2. There's a bunch of random, un-canon units. Races aren't as varied as I'd like.
3. One of the playable factions is the Gungan race. Need I say more?
4. They leave out a bunch of units they should have used and replaced them with crap. (i.e. instead of an Imperial Star Destroyer, they have what looks like a cross between a pickup truck and a tie fighter. A gigantic tie fighter)
5. Weird voice acting and unit responses. Sounds nothing like the real thing.

Other than that, it's IMO the best Star Wars RTS out there to date. I thought Empire at War was really boring, too tell you the truth. :P
