5.0 out of 5 stars Information is out-dated
A recent MAJOR overhaul the entire Star Wars Galaxies ranking and gameplay systems has rendered this BOOK USELESS. Don't waste your money. The game is AWESOME, just the book is useless. I strongly encourage you to get the game and play, and once you start playing find experienced players to walk you through the tough stuff. But do yourself a favor and do not buy this...

1.0 out of 5 stars Boycott Sony Online Entertainment and Lucas Arts., November 18, 2005

I have played Star Wars: Galaxies for 782 days according to the /getvet command. I have purchased all of the expansions out to date. I was considering creating a second account. As of 11-17-05 my account is cancelled. The New Game, also known as the Starter Kit, is the third version of SWG and it is riddled with bugs and incomplete. It is a far inferior product to its previous versions as well. The NG was released after being kept secret for an unknown period of time and allowing players only a two week notice of it being published. Even less time was devoted to it being tested by sources outside of SOE. Trials of Obi Wan and the NG were released in such a manner as to call into question SOE's and LA's ethics. As represented by the employees who post to the forums SOE and LA are uncarring, glib, and/or vastly out of touch with the player community.

Most of these are not new complaints. However, with the release of the NG these problems have escalted to such a degree that the game is no longer playable. While some are content to merely switch games I am not. Simply changing the direction of the flow of money to SOE and LA will not get their attention. I am boycotting all products created by Sony Online Entertainment and Lucas Arts. I encourage others to do the same.

I do not think my actions alone with effect SOE or LA one iota. In fact, I doubt anything will change their policies. The fan base for Star Wars and other properties is sufficiently numerous to mitigate any discontent portion. While some have predicted that the NG will cause the collapse of SWG I believe otherwise. It will lose many current players but those will be replaced by SOE's and LA's new target market. SOE and LA will later use the negative comments and future subscriptions numbers to prove that they were right all along and to dismiss anyone who opposes them as being knee jerk reactionaries who are against change just because they don't like change. Because most likely the next expansion will also bring a new version of SWG as SOE and LA attempt to copy whichever game is doing better then.

1.0 out of 5 stars Why?, December 26, 2004
This review is from: Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided Quick Reference Guide (Prima's Official Strategy Guide) (Spiral-bound)
Ok Prima and all the major Cheat Books are releaseing and rereleasing editions to books based on MMORPG's. The point is within a matter of months a guide dedicated to this type of game shall be obsolete.

I fell victime to the first round of these books when Star Wars Galaxy came out. With it I got the book thinking "Cool something to help me" figureing this was my first MMORPG. Upon opening the book and loading up the game I realized how pathetic the book was. The skill trees in the orginal edition were changed within a few months by Sony's Devs when they revamped the Bounty Hunter Skill.

Also the books inadequete with the listing of skill trainer locations and other locations as well figureing SOE can and will change the location of static NPC's at there chooseing. The orginals did not cover Player Cities nor could it since they are created by the players and figureing to have all listed they'd have to run through ALL servers since this game runs on multiple servers and each player city is in a different location. Oh did I mention there's a Combat Revamp and since the publication of this book Jump to Lightspeed's been released? That means new Trainers, Starship docking locations and many other JTL related items.

If you want to throw money out the window by all means buy this and all the other MMORPG books. If you want to find out how to be good seek out people in game and befriend them and as you get to know them learn the tricks of the trade. Otherwise you buy a book and it may be correct as of the time of it's writeing but within a matter of months it'll be obsolete especially with SOE's plans on relaseing more expansions for this game.

These books do not teach exploits, cheats and quick ways how to beat a game as you'd expect from a guide. Either way Exploiting is illegal and against Terms of Service and is the quickest way to getting banned. Take this as a grain of salt if you want but if you buy any of these than I hope you get enjoyment out of it and then when what I said comes true than remember I told ya so.

Until SOE can make up there mine on where Galaxies there is little or no point in buying any of the guides unless you dont mind wasting the money. Lets not forget that SOE is supposely coming out with another game later this year. Would be interesting to see how long it takes before that gets screwed up.

1.0 out of 5 stars GALAXY IN TURMOIL, June 4, 2005
This review is from: Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided Quick Reference Guide (Prima's Official Strategy Guide) (Spiral-bound)
As a long time resident of the SWG-Ahazi Gallaxy it was a sad day when I had to cancel my subscription recently. Faulty Patches, unending bugs, and the absolute poorest Customer service I have ever experienced in 15 years of gaming, gave me no other choice. Before purchasing this game, visit the Forums at SOE and read the Tech Support issues. Myself, I have a system that far exceeds all the requirments for play, and recently experienced months of lag, crashes, server issues, and non-existent CS. It is no great suprise, that with the legions of former players leaving the game for World Of Warcraft, or City Of Heroes, that Sony Online has reduced the price of Star Wars Galaxies AND the 2 expansions to under $30.00 and institued a huge TV campaign. ASK YOURSELF WHY? Projected losses are huge for SOE because of tech issues and people leaving the game. They are in a desprate situation to maintain subscribers until the game is fixed. If you want to risk your hard earned dough on their ability to fix it, purchase away. I would wait until they have a product worth buying (or worth returning to...)

1.0 out of 5 stars Fans stripped of their will to play due marketing, February 15, 2006
This review is from: Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided Quick Reference Guide (Prima's Official Strategy Guide) (Spiral-bound)
In the beginning, Star Wars Galaxies had such an intense feel to it, that it took you "A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away..." But no more. Here are examples:

1) Jedi used to be rare! People would choose between so many different professions, and relate with others and help out the guilds and communities! Everyone loved a group-hunting, and that special feeling that maybe, just maybe you'd eventually feel a connection to the Force and be one of the lucky chosen to start the path of Jedi.

2) Customer Service used to be great! So many willing helpers, assistants and in-game staff were there to help out if you were ever faced with a problem.

3) Everyone and every career in SWG was important and/or needed!

however...

Sony Online Entertainment wanted more. The wanted to obtain more customers, so they thought: "Let's make it so more people can be Jedi, that should bring in the hardcore fans". And so they did. They created "holocrons" that TOLD players how to become Jedi. Now, Jedi was accessible to anyone trying hard enough! It wasn't that bad, I guess... It was a lot of hard work still.

After a while, the Jedi population grew. SoE enjoyed this, and made it so everyone could become Jedi. They spat on the face of the hard-working Jedi by making it a common thing. And worst, they changed the way the game played. They changed buttons, and graphics, and how things worked. They repeatedly wiped cities clean, and destroyed things that players held dear... for what's the use of playing such game if your rewards are being cancelled by sony?

Nowadays we have the CU (combat upgrade) and the NGE (New game experience) which, for the lack of a better word, stinks.

Needless to say, SoE broke this game. It broke it and robbed it of the very thing that made it special and for what? Money alone. SoE doesn't care if you like it, so long you pay that monthly fee, they'll shove anything down your throat and tell you: "Take it".

I don't recommend this game, because if you play it, you may come to "like" it... only to be dissapointed in the end, like I am, down the line. I wish the game would be as it once had been, but... no more. R.I.P SWG - you gave me friends and great fun for almost a year.

PS. Over 60% of the players quit the game since those changes took place. I don't have to lie, simply read these commentaries. When I joined SWG, I had to pick a galaxy to begin: Most of them were closed to a high number of players. If you log in today, you'll see the description: "light population". And when you go in those specific planets, it'll feel like you're in a ghost town. SWG is broke, forevermore. Thanks for ruining the game SoE, I hate you.

1.0 out of 5 stars Great Firestarter!!! A++, December 13, 2006
This review is from: Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided Quick Reference Guide (Prima's Official Strategy Guide) (Spiral-bound)
Being the middle of Winter, many of us are huddling in our homes to protect ourselves from the cold. Some of us have problems getting the fireplace going.

No more!

Since the information in this book is completely outdated - and since no one with any self respect plays the trainwreck known as Star Wars Galaxies - this item is just what is required to keep your family warm in the winter.

While you are at it - if you want to quit playing Star Wars Galaxies - you will get a higher return on your investment by using $15 to start the fire each month.

Highly recommended over giving your money to Sony Online... Entertainment?

CU killed SWG, and so everyone knows...it was absolutely and completely the fault of the nincompoops who ostensibly get paid a salary at SOE. they have the worst customer service in the world; they don't listen and they don't care, so ef them.

RIP SWG dead 4/26/05

Prima.... get your act together and get a new book out.
