5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Have Item For Any Star Wars Fan!
We gave our six yr old son R2 for Christmas and it was the big hit of the day! When he unwrapped his gift and saw that it was R2 inside it was one of those priceless moments that you wish you caught on video...it even brought tears to his eyes. Now, I will say that R2 takes some getting used to. You have to say things just right and be pretty close to him when you...

3.0 out of 5 stars Really bad voice recognition
Visually, the kids loved it, and even non-interactive it became a friend. However, the voice recognition seemed really bad. It was really hard for my little kids to interact with it and the adults had to step in, and even for a computer programmer, it was troublesome to talk to.

About the funnest time the kids had with it, is when you beat it on the head, he...

You have to say things just right and be pretty close to him when you speak to him or else he doesn't understand and will just go about doing his own thing. He definitely seems to have a mind of his own sometimes, but that is part of the fun, too. When our six yr old gets a bit older I think he will have more fun with R2. I think the recommendation for 8 and up is probably right on due to the fact that it is a bit challenging for kids to operate (can even be challenging for adults!) Even so, R2 is so cute and life like...any Star Wars fan would love it!

I was a little hesistant to purchase this toy for my 7yr old, as he's a little rough on his things and not very patient, but this one is great! The instructions are very easy to follow and the commands are simple. He loves it!

With in a half hour we had our R2 running after my Grandson while he laughed the hole time. I found the commands to work very easy. As a Star Wars Fan I just fell in love with this and my Grandson of 3 talked to it like it was a friend. This was a great investment. The only problem was needing all of the batteries. Now we need to get recharge D cells and AA's.

5.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly Durable! Kids are still playing with toy after 2 years!!,, July 6, 2008

We've had this toy for several years. My wife actually bought it for me, but my kids soon co-opted it from me. It's an enjoyable toy that has held up to the kids, though they really haven't been particularly rough with it. The voice commands don't work as reliably as I would like, but the toy is fun. My kids enjoy chattering at R2, though they haven't quite grasped the need to give a sequential series of commands. They especially like to watch R2 going into Dance Mode. Overall, I highly recommend it.

I will say that R2D2 takes some time to learn how to used it. He definitely seems to have a mind of his own sometimes, but that is great part of the fun. You have to say things just right or else he doesn't understand and will just go about doing his own thing. The recommendation for 8 and up is probably right on due to the fact that it is a bit challenging for kids to operate (can even be challenging for adults!) Even so, R2 is so cute and life like so that any Star Wars fan or not would love it! My son's friends love to play with it when they are with us!

The wow factor is huge with this toy. A Star Wars junkie, my eight-year-old son was absolutely breathless on Christmas morning when he unwrapped his very own R2D2. The whimsical sounds and mannerisms of R2D2 absolutely come to life in your living room. It was well worth the price.

About the funnest time the kids had with it, is when you beat it on the head, he complains. That feature seemed to work the most consistent (not to mention helps work out the frustration you have talking to it). :)

1.0 out of 5 stars parts, October 17, 2011
This review is from: Star Wars R2D2 Interactive Astromech Droid Voice Activated (Electronics)
Hasbro no longer makes this toy so you can no longer get this repaired or get parts. I am needing an antenna that comes with this toy, but have been unable to find it. If anyone knows where to purchase parts that would be great, otherwise I would not buy this toy. It is very expensive and there is no repair or parts for it.

5.0 out of 5 stars R2 is a Hit!, December 31, 2008
This review is from: Star Wars R2D2 Interactive Astromech Droid Voice Activated (Electronics)
I've been wanting this R2 Unit for years and finally picked a few weeks back through Amazon. R2's a hit in the office and has provided lots of laughs for us. The Force is strong with this droid. Great toy for kids and adults who act as kids. Now I need a C-3PO companion piece!
