Amazon.com Product Description

The galaxy is in turmoil as the events of Star Wars: Episode II rapidly approach. Mace Windu dispatches one of the Council's top Jedi, Adi Gallia, to investigate disturbances in the Karthakk system caused by a secessionist movement that threatens to expand. Using the Republic's new prototype Jedi starfighter, Gallia sets out on missions that lead to events depicted in the Star Wars: Episode II film. She quickly gains an upper hand in space battles using her Force powers, but will these be enough to counter the massive fleet of the evil Captain Toth and a mysterious figure that threatens the very foundations of the Galactic Republic system?

You'll fly the new Jedi starfighter and get a look at characters and events from the film. The game contains single- and dual-player action in more than 20 story-based missions. Fly all missions cooperatively with a friend or in single-player mode in a variety of spacecraft. Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter features more than 40 new craft, including massive capital ships, three new flyable fighters, new enemy craft, and more.

4.0 out of 5 stars Star Wars Flavor big time fun, March 18, 2002
This review is from: Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter (Video Game)
I never played the original Star Wars Starfighter so I cannot accurately compare the two games. I do know , however that Jedi Starfighter is a very good looking and fun game.
The graphics are the best thing that JS has going for it. There are over 40 ships from the relam of Star WARs (old and new). Their detail is great, and their flight patterns and movements are awesome. The coolest thing is the trailing afterburners of all the ships. Your ships lasers are very cool and they sound just like the lasers in Star Wars movies. The backgrounds are also very good pieces of artwork.
The story line in JS is set right after Phantom Menace but before the Attack of the Clones. Wlhat I really like about the story is that the writers did not try to make it like the movie, but instead set it in the world of George Lucas during a different time and place. This is smart! Movie plots are hardly ever accurately translated to game plots.
Another cool thing about JS is that you can play two players. There are five different modes for multiplayer, and get this you can play the regulary story based missions as a co-op two player journey awesome.
The story missions are the coolest to me, and you play as two different characters Adi Gallia(Jedi), and Nym who is a land owner fighting the seccessionist in Karthaak.
Like the first Starfighter, the game is not really a Star Wars game other than the flavor and the music. It is not like Rogue Squadron in that sense. But to me the controls and gameplay are better than in Rogue Squadron. You are not bound by a fake ceiling or bottom in mid-air. you have total 360 degree movemant in your planes. The weapons are ample and accrately done and Adi Gallia can perform force attacks from the cockpit.

Add to all of this the ability to unlock trailers and extra vehicles for multiplayer mode, and you have a very good game. I reccomend it to all Star Wars fans and to anyone who likes aerial shooters.

5.0 out of 5 stars AWESOME!!! A MUST BUY FOR STAR WARS FANS!, March 31, 2002
This review is from: Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter (Video Game)
If I had to use one word to describe Jedi Starfighter it would be AWESOME!!! This is a great game for anyone who is a fan of the Star Wars movies. The music in this game is mainly from Episode 1 and new music which might be in Episode 2. Just playing this game is like you are in a star wars movie. I have read a lot of complaints about the graphics, but when I bought the game I noticed that these people are being too technical. In other words THE GRAPHICS ARE GREAT!!!!! The game play is also great. Though there aren't an extreme amount of missions in the story mode they can all be played co-operatively and there is alot of stuff to unlock, such as additional single and two player modes, extra ships (yes. Your favorites from the movies as well as new ones.An x-wing, tie fighter, Boba Fett's ship, etc.)and adds for new Star Wars games, stuff about Episode 2,etc. There are a few weak points however but I didn't mark the game down a star because all the good things about the game totally outweigh the bad. One of these weak points is that in outer space when you are coming close to a big space station-like ship that you need to blow certain thing on it up it is sometimes hard to tell the difference between the ship and space. This sometimes makes you crash a lot. The other weak point is that it is somewhat hard to see in the two player modes (not including the advanced havoc missions). I can't compare this game to Star Wars: Starfighter because I honestly have never played it. Even so I am sure that this game must be a lot better then it. I definitely recommend this game to anyone who is a Star Wars fan like me, anyone who wants a glipse at the ships, music, and story line of episode 2 (which is hinted thoughout the game), or anyone looking for a good space shooter like Rebel Assault, Star Fox, or Descent.I honestly think that this is the best Star Wars game for PS2. IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING TO BUY THIS GAME I STRONGLY RECOMMEND YOU TO BUY IT!!!!!!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Ho-Hum..., February 26, 2003
This review is from: Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter (Video Game)
Being a Star Wars fan can be an expensive way to live your life- there are literally thousands of books, games, comics, and toys to choose from, and if you're on a limited budget like I am, you have to be choosey. There was a time when Star Wars games were the pinnacle of video games- back during the original X-wing, TIE Fighter and the first two Dark Forces games, Lucas Arts produced superb quality adventures with great stories. I think Episode I changed all that as the mad rush to cash in on new Star Wars movies opened the door to mediocrity. Instead of producing only a few titles, the flood gates were open.

Jedi Starfighter is very much a middle of the road kind of game. It is for sure heads and tales above `Battle For Naboo', but a far cry from TIE Fighter. The sequel to the initial Starfighter game, Jedi Starfighter incorporates a new story and the Delta-7 ship that Obi-Wan flew in `Attack of the Clones'. The story is ironically topical with modern day real life- the Trade Federation is in cahoots with a warlord named Captain Toth to produce bioweapons, leading Jedi Master Adi Gallia to investigate. The game also brings back the Fiorin Nym and his sidekicks from the original.

Game play is pretty basic- fly around and shoot things while accomplishing mission goals. Since you can fly several craft, you get a host of weapons other than lasers, but also swarmer missiles, depth charges, cruise missiles and little guided attack ships that surround your target and shoot at it. When you fly as Adi in the Jedi Starfighter, you gain the addition of Force Powers that you can use against enemy ships. A neat idea, but the execution doesn't really pay off and the abilities are not as good as the other ship's weapons. As an added bonus, when you progress you can unlock other ships like an X-wing, a TIE fighter and Slave 1.

Where it falls down is that the game is too easy. I could have finished it entirely in my first sitting had I not had other things to do. Even on Hard it wasn't all that tough, plus if I died, it was usually because I crashed into something and not because I got shot down. The challenge just wasn't there. It also became frustrating sometimes during missions because of the in-game chatter between pilots that moved the story along could not be overridden so that you could issue orders to wingmen. You would have to wait till they stopped yammering before you could order someone to attack or protect your target.

The graphics are so-so by Playstation 2 standards and decidedly sub-par for the PC. However, it rarely suffers from a low frame rate because of too much action o the screen, plus it's very colorful. Everything is well detailed, with well designed models. Explosions, like so many other games, are kind of lifeless. The sound is quite good, though Slave 1's weapons and engine noise are nothing like they were in Episode II. Also on the upside are a mess of extras that come with it like concept art and commentaries by the programmers, always a plus. This game is best bought as a Greatest Hits and not at full price.
