5.0 out of 5 stars Obi-Wan lifes story is an amazing tale
This is one of the greatest Star Wars Novels out there. Following the life of Obi-Wan from childhood to death to his journey beyond is an exciting adventure, from Obi-Wan's presence through lukes training to his battle against Vader. The story also answers alot of questions from the movies like, "how does Luke get another lightsaber in Return of the Jedi when Vader cuts...

The book encompasses his adventures based on the films and on Expanded Universe tales. All in all, a quick and interesting read. However, some of the "adventures" come right out of the movies, with the dialogue written verbatim; that was a bit tedious, but was only apparent during the events of the Clone Wars.

It's a little pricey seeing how it is really a quick read, but I thought it interesting how there is an interspersed point of view that includes Luke Skywalker.

3.0 out of 5 stars Serious fans should skip this one..., March 13, 2009
This review is from: Star Wars: Life and Legend of Obi-Wan Kenobi (Hardcover)
This book is basically an extremely abridged re-hash of all 6 movies;in fact, some lines in the book are directly from the movie. It does shed light on a few unanswered questions, but all in all, it is definitley geared toward younger readers. If you've seen the movies and read the expanded universe novels, you're better off not wasting your time.
Now, if an "adult" novelist (i.e. Timothy Zahn) were to pick this one up and write an "adult" version, it would be worth the read.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a great book for every star wars fan!, July 8, 2009
This review is from: Star Wars: Life and Legend of Obi-Wan Kenobi (Hardcover)
Here is what my 11 year old son had to say about this book: "This is a very good book. I don't know what other people think, but I think that this book has barely anything from the movies that is not from a new exciting perspective. I even learned new things about the movies from this book! This book is about Obi Wan, but it has sections focused on Luke Skywalker. It also lets you wonder 'is this all Star Wars history, or is the added parts just the thoughts of one person?' This book even inspired me to write my own story!"

4.0 out of 5 stars Four Stars + Spoilers May Follow, May 10, 2009
This review is from: Star Wars: Life and Legend of Obi-Wan Kenobi (Hardcover)
Like the Vader one this book is a short book about Obi Wan Kenobi while I would have loved a full lenght book of Obi Wan this one was still pretty good. It had bits and pieces from his life my favorite part was him carrying for Luke on the way to Tatooine and his observations watching the events unfold after his death especially when Obi Wan realized why he didn't think Vader could be saved and his astonishment when he was. The only small nitpick about the book though is it doesn't really explain why Owen Lars hated Obi Wan which is odd since the author devotes two stories to Owen and Obi Wan. At first it felt like it was because Anakin slaughtered the Tuskens and he assumes that's how Jedi are but later Owen says something the complete opposite. I have no idea what the author was going with here.

My favorite character in the Star Wars expanded universe has grown to be Obi-Wan; from reading all the novels within Rise of the Empire era, and the Jedi Apprentice youth series. I must say this is an interesting read, though it's more of a support catalog to fill in the cracks for all the previous novels in the series. It expands over time from Obi-Wan as a padawan till after he becomes one with the force, mainly expanding on his relationship with the Skywalker line and what history from an Obi-Wan perspective. I would suggest reading this no sooner than after Revenge of the Sith and no later than Return of the Jedi.

1.0 out of 5 stars A good idea gone wrong!, August 21, 2010
This review is from: Star Wars: Life and Legend of Obi-Wan Kenobi (Hardcover)
As appealing as it sounds to encompass every single adventure of Obi-Wan Kenobi, when it comes down to it the book just isn't long enough. Trying to fit so many stories into one extemely short novel is downright impossible. Every story is extremely brief and most of the book doesn't consist of original content. Windham is an ok writer but he can't compete with the authors of the novels he "borrowed" from. This makes it painfully obvious where he stopped copy and pasting. You're better off buying the books he based this one on because what very little is original content is not worth the price. All in all this is a good book for children because Windham really makes the story a lot more kid friendly and it is an interesting look at Obi-Wan's perspective during the final stages of Return of the Jedi. But when it comes down to it this is a watered down novel with really nothing new to offer to longtime fans.

I simply love the extended universe of the Star Wars book collection, and what a great addition to my library. Obi Wan Kenobi is iconic in that universe second only to Yoda himself. I haven't had the chance to read the whole book yet but what I have read is fantastic. As far as the seller and the shipping goes - The book arrived on time and in excellent condition for a used book. I always by used because I love to see old books recycled in a good way, not just for fresh paper.
