This is honestly one of the best toys of the year, if not the decade. It uses Xavix technology (you know--the bowling/tennis/baseball games) to track every move of your lightsaber and allow you to battle against many of the Episode I, II, and III characters.
I know, it doesn't sound like much, but the response time on this game is astounding. When you swoosh your saber, you see your blade move onscreen and hear the proper corresponding sound. Awesome! You learn special moves through tutorials in the Jedi Council chamber, and can block other saber swings, attack, and even reflect blaster bolts. The 2-D graphics are on the level of the Sega Genesis, so they aren't much to look at, but the sounds really help to sell the experience. I don't think I really spent a lot of time examining the graphics anyway. I was too busy trying to dodge blaster bolts. The saber has no batteries, and no moving parts. The training remote has four infrared emitters that reflect off the saber and track its movement back to the "eye" of the remote. While it's powered by four AA batteries (which seem to last quite a while), it also has a jack on the back for an AC adaptor (if you have a universal adaptor you can use that). No, this game won't babysit your small children for you or balance your checkbook, but it'll give you an awful lot of fun and get you up and moving at the same time. If there were only a way to lightsaber Jar-Jar this game would be perfect.

This game has been FANTASTIC! I have a 12 year old who is not a physically active kid, and whose coordination, stamina, muscle tone, and overall athletic ability would be in the bottom percentiles. However, more than anything in the world, he wants to be a Jedi ... and this game has gotten him off the couch! He was frustrated at first because some of the moves, etc. were really hard for him. For any other game, I'm sure he would have quit. But this was so singularly motivating, he stuck with it. After less than 3 weeks, he had made it to level 7 -- and even though he has "mastered" the game, he continues to play because it continues to be a fun and motivating challenge. He keeps coming up from the basement soaked with sweat and happy beyond compare. I know this is doing great things for him fitness wise, and is improving his muscle tone, motor planning, and coordination -- and best of all, he just loves it and is so happy and so proud. I don't know if I'd say it is educational but it does score high on therapeutic value for a kid like mine. It is holding up great so far too -- and despite hours of play, it seems to be pretty good on batteries (have only changed them once so far). I couldn't be happier with this purchase, and best of all, I get to be the mom of a future Jedi knight.

I obtained this game last week for my son and two daughters. They loved it. The sword is small compared to regular sabers but you can really have fun. This tv game uses Xavix technology in order to function properly and lets you face notorious dark side enemies like Emperor Palpatine, and the other evil men. I love Star Wars so I took a few swings at the television screen. Which got me excited is that you can be side by side with other jedi Obi-Wan, Qui-Gon etc. You finally have a game that will get you away from your game boy for maybe a week or two. As this game focuses on your ability in order to really make this game fun! You should know before getting this that is only for ONE PLAYER ONLY. I am going to finish the review, so I suggest that you should buy this for StAR Wars FANS

My son received this as a birthday present (he just turned 6). So far he has had an absolute blast playing this game. Somehow the sensor on top of the TV picks up the movement of the lightsaber and allows you to train, fight and deflect bullets. The game has tons of levels which is great for younger ones and gives you the ability to go master more difficult levels. The only dissappointment was that the characters do not actually speak to you. The game displays the dialogue on the screen for the child to read. I would highly recommend this game.

I wanted this game for myself and got it from my girlfriend for my birthday. I plugged it in and was cracking up because it truly is a joy to play this game. Any child who grew up in the 70's secretly dreamed of being a Jedi (well ok, most boys did, but I'm a girl so I guess I'm an exception). This game is awesome. It's SO much fun. It's actually really hard at first to get the hang of it, but after a few days of playing with it, you get the hang of it. You get to train before each level which means you have to master a move by one of the Jedis such as Qui Gon, Obi Wan, Mace Windu, Yoda. The moves give you a significant advantage when fighting opponents because you cause much more damage if you use them in the levels and your force power can be replenished when you use them. The hardest one to master is Obi Wans which is this move where you spin your saber. I've done it over and over and can never get it to work properly during a level. But truthfully, you can get by using the other moves.
What's interesting is you actually have to come up with a "style" of fighting that is all your own. I actually found that using longer, more graceful swings killed more enemies than just randomly and quickly swinging your saber. There is something very satisfying about swinging that saber and seeing droids fall away or their heads being cut off with a well placed swing. I know I must look completely insane playing this game at my age, but it's seriously a good work out (your arm will be KILLING you the next day). The graphics are bad and old fashioned, but I'm sure it's the new technology and this problem will be improved upon. It took me awhile to figure out how to block saber hits from my opponents (the key is small, slight wrist moves to block). I wish the saber was a tad longer and that it had the "force feedback." I actually went and took out my plastic, electronic Anakin Skywalker Lightsaber and tried to play the game with it and it kind of worked! It was so cool to "feel" the hits, so I hope they incoorporate that into the next generation of this game. The longer lightsaber would be really cool to play with, so even though it worked sporadically with mine, I had to switch back to the little one to get the game to work properly. Even I found myself getting closer to the tv sometimes wanting to "hit" the droids. You really forget you're playing against a two dimensional screen! In the end, this is a great game that really has me excited about the possibility of of this type of game in the future. Any Star Wars fan will love it, no matter your age.

Our family loves this game! We have all had so much fun. My 10 year-old son and I have officially made it through all seven levels. My husband and 7 year-old son are on their way as well! The technology is amazing and the game was well worth the money. And, it is almost as fun to watch others playing as it is to play the game yourself. I also love that you "train" and are taught moves which you use as the battles get more difficult. The fact that you have to pass one level before moving on to the next makes it an addicting challenge! Hint to the previous reviewer: for the spinning move, keep the lightsaber in one hand and twist your wrist back and forth to create the motion.
My only complaint is that the directions with the game describe special forces II and "power ups" which are not in our game.

I bought this from ToysRUS in New York for my two sons. I was worried it wouldn't work back in England, but we had no problems. This is absolutely fantastic - the boys feel like real Jedi's and it is so much fun. The only problem is fighting each other as to whose turn is next. Well worth the money! May the force be with you!

Video Game That Gets You Off Your Seat,

This review is from: Star Wars Light Saber Battle Game (Toy)
I bought this game for my son's 5th birthday and he loves it. The game guidelines say 8+ but with a little supervision he is fine and is now starting to work out some of the strategy of the game. I have to admit that I have got a ot of fun out of it too! I like the fact that we didn't have to go out and get a Playstation or Xbox to play this game - it plugs straight into the TV.
In terms of gameplay - the Combo moves aren't that useful, instead the trick is to work out your opponents attack strategy, and after they have finished their attack sequence they are vulnerable to a counter-attack. Every opponent will have a different combination that they will use I found the game to really suck the batteries dry - it drained 4 brand new AA after just a couple of days play. I recommend getting an AC adaptor. Also, make sure the kids don't get too close to the TV - there is a real temptation for them to get closer to try to 'hit' their target! On the whole - one of the best games I have ever seen, and it's only going to get better!

Fun Game - But it will Challenge you!,
By
This review is from: Star Wars Light Saber Battle Game (Toy)
This is a fun game but it is NOT easy because of the sensitivity of the hardware. My 8 yr old son was a bit frustrated trying to complete some of the moves, but it taught him to be patient and keep trying. Overall, it is a worthwhile purchase - IF you have some patience because it is very touchy and will not be easy to master.

My two sons (ages 8 and 10) just love this toy. It is better than a video game because it requires physical activity. They've played with it consistently for over 6 months now, with no problems. At first it is a little difficult to get used to, but with diligence, they were able to master the game in a couple of months.
I like that it isn't so simple that it can be mastered in a day or two. The challenges last and provide on-going entertainment. We do NOT work for Hasbro - this is a great toy. |
