I was so excited to get my Force FX Lightsaber and couldn't wait to play with it so I ran out and bought a fresh pack of Energizer AA batteries and inserted them into the hilt. My saber instantly ignited and started making sounds! I knew immediately that this was going to be a very cool toy. I played around with it, twirling it like every good Jedi does and then switched the power off. The blade light went off, but it continued to make the sounds. I switched the on/off button several times and finally got the sounds to shut off but the "deactivation" sound had a VERY delayed response, nearly 15 seconds after I turned the power off. I was also disappointed by the low volume of the sounds. It is very muted compared to my cheap Hasbro toy lightsaber which is considerably louder.Well, it wasn't perfect but it was still the closest thing to a real lightsaber that money can buy. I am also a proud owner of a custom made electro-luminescent Episode I Obi-Wan Kenobi lightsaber that is very similar to this one except that it does not have a sound chip in it. I put the toy away and thought nothing more of it... until the next day. I went to turn on my lightsaber and the sounds were garbled. I thought perhaps the batteries were drained, but how could this be? I just put in fresh batteries the day before, played with it a maximum of about 45 minutes, igniting it for a few minutes here and there, but the instructions say that it should have about 5-6 hours of continuous play. I have come to the conclusion that there is something wrong with the lightsaber itself. I have read other reviews that point to the fact that there is either a design flaw or that there is a manufacturing defect. I think I am going to return mine and try to get a replacement. I feel like Darth Vader in the Energizer Bunny ads. The Force is definitely not with this one.

I received my Anakin FX last week and have to disagree with the the reviewer who thinks there are better functional replicas out there. I don't know what they were expecting for the price. Sure, you can get more accurate replicas from fan sites that are made of metal, but only if you're willing to spend about 4-5 times more than what the Anakin FX costs. And I haven't seen any custom sabers that come with sound effects. Other reviewers have reported having problems with theirs, but I've turned mine on, swung it around and banged it into several things with no problems so far. Any child would love to have this and no collector should be without it. Can't wait for the Vader FX later this year!

I have a few lightsaber replicas and I enjoy putting them on display but never really could do much with them. I ordered this lightsaber and I must say that this is the best replica I have seen so far. It is an interactive replica that lets you do something with and makes you feel like a Jedi. From the polished metal hilt to the EL blade to the sound effects. Everything is great about it. If you are a Star Wars fan, you will love this. I liked it so much, I decided to order another one, yes that is true, it came yesterday. If you are tired of playing with those toy lightsabers for kids that have the flashing lightbulbs and the sound effects that don't sound like a lightsaber, order this one. You'll love it, I promise!

Since sitting in my home town theatre as a 13 year old boy back in 1977 I have dreamed of holding the Jedi weapon known as the Lightsaber. Ah yes there have been many toy lightsabers that I swung at family members and pets, but none have made my knees weak as this one from Master Replicas. This is not a toy and it will break if given to a child to play with. This is a collector piece and needs to be treated as such. The handle of the lightsaber is polished metal and beautifully done. The blade is fixed and can not be retracted. The saber uses 6AA batteries which power the blade and sound effects. I have been waiting months for this to arrive and it was worth the wait. Once I flicked the switch I was in Jedi heaven -- the lightsaber snapped and hummed as the blade glowed with a bright blue hue. When the saber is swung the familiar woosh noise is made that is familiar to all Star Wars fans. If you have always wanted to become a Jedi but do not want to run around a swamp with Yoda on your back nagging at you -- hell you wife does enough of that -- Go out and treat yourself to this collectible. HAVE FUN -- A guy from Charlotte, NC that refuses to grow up.

Well, after a long wait for Christmas day I got my FX Anakin lightsaber. I was suprised at the complexity of inserting its batteries, but it is a fairly good design in the end, even though it takes a while to get them in. I have had my saber since Christmas, and I have used it a lot, and it continues to perform well. The sounds are pretty accurate and decently loud, much better than the plastic toys that hasbro and other companies make. The sounds run on a processer, so it takes a moment for everything to funcion correctly (8 seconds after ignition to be precise). One thing I am displeased with is that they put the ignition switch in a weird place and to hold your hands in the best position, it is easy to turn it off on accident. I am not quite sure why they didnt put the switch on the black and silver protrusion where it is supposed to be, but I suppose they have their reasons. After all, the rest of the saber is very accurate, right down to the black belt clip that is used in the movie (Unless you make an actual receiver for the belt clip to put on your belt, it is useless, just so you dont get the idea that it comes ready to for that). The construction of it looks good, having all of the little components and rubber grip and such, but it is kind of shaky. You can feel some of the parts shift slightly when you move it around. As for the durability, I have used it a lot since I got it and it still works the same as when I got it, even after accidentally hitting the blade on a fan that was turned on high (thats the last time I'll ever play with it in my room). I am still very paranoid that I am going to break it because it doesnt really feel very sturdy when you swing it around. Now, finally, for what everybody cares about, the blade. It is an Electro Luminecent blade, surrounded by a layer of protective plastic. Some people think it is neon, and believe that it will break very easily, but it is not. It is the same principal however. It works by having a white sheet covered in phosphoresent ink that glows when a current is run through it, producing a light blue color. Now, a lot of people get this product expecting it to look like they have a real lightsaber, and are dissapointed because it doesnt have a core. The entire blade is the same light blue color, rather than having a white blade with a blue aura around it like in the movies. It will not look exactly like a saber from the movies. However, if you decide to go into almost complete darkness and make a movie of it, it does appear to have a core. I make lots of fan films, so this saves a bit of time during dark, non-combat scenes with a lightsaber. In the end, the only way to get a completely real looking saber is to do it digitally. It is called rotoscoping and is an extremely long and boring process of painting over each individual frame. If you are very patient with computers and can figure things out well without instructions on them, you can do it yourself. The problem is that it takes a good deal of software to do it. For those who care, it is Adobe Photo Shop, Adobe After Affects, and Adobe Premeir. This saber is not very good for dueling, as it is fairly heavy and would probly break under the kind of conditions needed to make one of these films. I suggest building your own saber hilt out of sink drain materials and get an aluminum tube for the blade then just rotoscope it. It is the exact same way that they do it in the movies. Anyways, I'm sure you dont care about all of the stuff I just told you, so if you have any questions about this product or rotoscoping to make a real looking lightsaber, feel free to e-mail me. Cya

I purchased my Anakin FX saber directly from the manufacturer. They also provided an online video which showed the audio and visual quality of the saber. After waiting 3 months it finally arrived at my house. I read the instructions on how to put the batteries in and carefully assembled the fine threaded hilt back together. I then turned the saber on and the blue EL blade lit up to my amasemnt. The sound effects quality was satisfactory as the blade hummed, wooshed and clashed. The blade has an acrylic housing which is kinda durable but I only hit it with MEDIUM force, on my hand, to make the battle crashing sounds. In conclusion, I didn't expect a "loud" light saber like in the movies. I know the speaker in the hilt was sizeable enough to give these sound effects close to what we want to hear when we activate and play with the saber. I would not duel with this item since it is a collector item and it is for show. Other than that, I had no problems with this item.

I have read the reviews on the flaws of this lightsaber. I got my first one for my birthday on December 13 and then I liked it so much I decided to buy another one.I had ordered both of them and they are terrific. No sound problems, no blade problems, no nothing problems. I had already used the batteries down on one of them and so I can tell you what you can expect: If the lightsaber itself starts up and is "skipping" the activation sound and will not complete the activation sound or the activation sound just plays in the middle of a swing or the sound is low in volume and the pitch is changed and the sound is sounding "fuzzy" the batteries are low. If the sound goes out and the blade is still on, you must have hit something hard enough that caused the sound processor to deactivate while still activated. Just reset your lightsaber to fix this problem by taking one battery out and putting it back in. Also it could be that the battery hatch is not entirely screwed in, a thought to why some of your lightsabers out there are malfunctioning. The lightsaber is not an entirely durable item. It is not made to be a toy. To me it is an interactive collectable. Because this item is so delicate, you cannot hit it against hard surfaces and such. Because maybe some of your lightsabers are malfunctioning, is due to improper treatment. Or also I noticed that one person said that he had disassembled the lightsaber, MASTER REPLICAS strictly warns their customers NOT TO DISASSEMBLE the lightsaber! That could also be a reason. But both of them are good for me and have not had any problems with either of them.

I was very excited when it finally came. The lightsaber is very secured in the box that it came in. A little difficulty installing the batteries in, but once they were in place, it was all uphill from there. The sound effects and luminescent blade were simultaneously working once turned on. The hilt is nicely chromed and well designed, and the sounds effects are realistic. I would highly recommend swinging this thing around in a very spacious room with high ceilings, because i've hit the ceiling once or twice, and a couple of lamps and picture frames (you know who you are out there). As soon as you activate the on switch, you feel like a jedi in the heat of battle. In conclusion, a must have for any Star Wars collector...

I bought this when I saw it online, thinking what the heck Ill check it out because I like cool stuff. Also, the blue looked cool and would go with my band's stage show. This thing is FAN-TASTIC. People say that its not very loud but it sure startled ME when it powered up!! This is easily the coolest weird toy that ive ever bought. I cannot WAIT to use it at our show. If you have the means, I highly suggest picking one up, in any color.

Best 'Toy' saber...Ever,

Well, I just received my saber today and I am very happy with it. First the hilt is fabulous. Yes it is a little bigger than the one used in the film but after they put all the electronics in and the batteries what can you expect. The blade has good and bad points. First the blade glows bright enough to see even in a well lit room. Most of the 'replica' sabers I have seen needed to be in dark places to get the most from them. In reality the only thing dark did for this one is allow the ambient light to hit other items in the room. My biggest complaint is I wish it would come off. It is fixed but I knew that when I ordered it. It also has a half sphere attached to the end that I am not to crazy about. It rounds off the end, but does not light up. The sounds are great. It has your standard power up/power down sounds but where it gets really good is the hum and the clash sounds. I know it is advertised with the multi-pitch hum but I did not expect it to work as well as it did. The sound of the saber spinning around is as close as I imagine you can get, this side of ILM. The fact that it has multiple clashes is also a nice touch. As far as my educational and durability values, here is why they did not get 5 stars. How educational could this toy be??? I don't think all toys should be educational. Some should just be fun, and this one fits that bill. I cut a point for durability because they say not to duel with the saber, but we all know we are going to want to right??? In short, I think it was worth the money. Then again, I am a hopeless Star Wars geek (but who else would be buying such a thing). |
