Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

A 3-D cardboard construction of the Millennium Falcon emerges behind the die-cut cover of this oversize board book/mock owner's manual ("Congratulations on your purchase of a Corellian Engineering Corporation YT-1300 light freighter!"). Turning the pages lifts sections of the ship away layer by layer, revealing the internal mechanisms, while sidebars and diagrams explore the vessel's technology. Stills of Han Solo and Chewbacca along with quotations recall moments from the films. The detailed illustrations should delight mechanically inclined readers; here's hoping other titles are in the works using the book's brilliant "peel-away" format. All ages.

One night not a long time long ago I left my TV on one night as background while I was doing dishes and Empire Strikes back was on TV. My 4 year old was playing on the computer in the basement but at some point she wandered up and sat down in front of the TV. To my amazement, she was mesmerized by Empire Strikes back. She kept asking, "what is that Daddy? who is that Daddy?" So I wound up sitting down with her to watch and narrate Empire Strikes back for the beginning of the movie. It was quite the experience. After an hour it was time for bed but said, "Daddy, I want to watch the whole movie." I told her I had the movie on the DVD and that we could watch it on movie night, which is Saturday nights. She gets to stay up and watch a movie in her jammies cuddling with her Daddy on the recliner.

I must say that movie night with Star Wars Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back (1980 & 2004 Versions, 2-Disc Widescreen Edition)is a heck of a lot better than watching The Jungle Book (40th Anniversary Platinum Edition) or even Finding Nemo (Two-Disc Collector's Edition) for the 847th time (although Finding Nemo is watchable even after 400 times).

I promise, cross my heart and swear that I did not offer a child Star Wars. I blame cable TV but I am so happy that we've moved on to more adult movies --- and Star Wars! This bodes well for the future.

After that, she was hooked and as a fan of Star Wars, I was perfectly happy during movie night.

I saw this at a brick and mortar store an had to look it over. I got a lot of weird looks for reading a kids book in a stor(I'm 6'1" 260lbs) but I didn't care.
The artwork is amazing. As far as I could tell it pulls most of its information from the original movies and has a lot of cool comments from Han Solo injected throughout.

Overall a really cool look at the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy.

This book is great. You get to see layer by layer the inner workings of the Falcon and where she started from. The side notes are great along with the details. Very good book for the Falcon collector or any Star Wars fan. I'd easily pay full price for it again if I had to!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun for Star Wars fans of all ages! November 10, 2010
Format:Board book
This is kind of a difficult review to write, mainly because I want to write "OMG IT'S SO COOL" about a hundred times and leave it at that. This is one of the coolest books I've had my hands on in quite some time, and if you're a fan of the original Star Wars trilogy, you will definitely love this book.

When I first saw the title, I expected a pop up book, but the actual format is even better. Each page is a "slice" of the Millennium Falcon, accompanied by technical specs and notes from Han Solo and Lando Calrissian on modifications that they have made to the ship.

I'm sorry, I need to interrupt myself. HOW COOL IS THAT?

The level of detail is pretty impressive, especially for a book theoretically aimed at kids ages 8 and up (we all know that grown up Star Wars geeks are going to buy this thing for themselves), and the writeups for the various features and equipment on the ship are both easy enough for kids to understand and detailed enough to satisfy adult readers. The illustrations and layered pages look fantastic and are definitely detailed enough to keep you poring over this book, looking at everything. The modification notes sound like Han and Lando, so kudos to whoever wrote those! You definitely got their voices down.

This book would make a great gift for a Star Wars fan of any age (or for yourself, if you're a Star Wars fan).

5.0 out of 5 stars Very sturdy December 7, 2011
Format:Board book|Amazon Verified Purchase
I didn't know what to expect from this, I was curious to see how the book dissects the Millennium Falcon. I have to say it's put together very well. Each page is thick cardboard like, with clear plastic showing each part of the ship. Much more then what I was ecpecting.

I bought this for my daughter. It's extremely detail and still a bit too old for her. It taught me things i didn't know. I can't wait until she is older and will understand more.
