Big disappointment - awful layout!, May 11, 2005
This review is from: Star Wars 12 Month Poster Wall Calendar (Calendar)
I am a fan of calendars which can outlive their dates by being art, sometimes framable art. As a longtime Star Wars fan this calendar looked great - where else can you get a nifty set of miniature (but not TOO small) Star Wars posters? Unfortunately, I only saw shrink-wrapped calendars. The cover is beautiful (though mine came dinged, of course), and the back pictures several of the featured posters. The Episode I poster (January, 2006) example is also pictured on the back... it is this, in fact, that tempted me to title this review "False Advertising." At least very deceptive advertising! Bottomline is that if you are hoping for nice, CLEAN miniatures of the movie posters, you will be VERY disappointed! On every poster/month (except, conveniently, the Episode I example) are little insets of foreign or uniques posters, which essentially ruin each one for any display as a complete poster. These are interesting (though I've seen them all before), but the fact they are printed over portions of the posters is unfortunate and make each poster unusable as an individual "mini-poster" (although that was probably the intent)! Why not just print a big red "COPY" on the poster and be done with it?! AND why, oh why, not show actual examples of the dreadful layout on the cover -- at least now I know why they were all kept shrink-wrapped in the store!! DO NOT BUY THIS CALENDAR -- send the publishers a message!!

With some cropping & border you could frame most pages, June 18, 2005
This review is from: Star Wars 12 Month Poster Wall Calendar (Calendar)
I purchased my calendar before I read the other review, since mine wasn't opened, I went ahead & opened mine. Yes, there are some smaller pictures of other movie poster versions that was put out advertising the same movie in various places. Most are on the left side of the calendar and the right side has round circles for the dates of the month. Regardless of the mini posters, you still would have to crop the poster because of the days of the month. I do think they should have shown how each months poster was actually displayed and not just mini versions of the movie posters. I like seeing all of the different versions for the same movie and especially like the ones that are from Japan and the 1 from France. If you don't only want the posters for your walls you can go to your local craft or framing store and have them crop and dry mount the calendar page or it can also be cropped out using a border.
Not so long ago I worked at a bookstore and I if the customer had come up to the front counter and asked to open a calendar, I am sure they would have opened for you, especially since there where no other calendars open. That's just good customer service. Plus I bet by November when all of 2006 calendars are out there will be at least 1 calendar that is open so you can see and page through it. You also have to remember that the gentleman & I that purchased this calendar did so the same month as Episode 3 "Revenge of the Sith" movie was released during the summer, not during the height of calendar buying season.
